Hello, my name is Goya and welcome to my deep guide on Monday this week I received a package from data and that is the super note a5x. I'm very excited about this one, because I love the a6x and the super note approach with the slider and the screen cover and the pens and all that kind of stuff but um. I was always curious to see how does the larger a5 format actually translate? So, let's unbox and see the first impressions, shall we all right so here we are the super note a5x, the one that a lot of people have been waiting for eagerly myself included. So you do know that I am a very big fan of the super note a6 and the a6x. Yes, it's not a perfect device, it has with faults and all that kind of stuff, but as a combined experience, I really love it. However, I was always, always curious.
How would that user experience translate to this larger a5 format and since I never owned the super note a5 before I'm very excited to actually check this out. So today we're just going to do unboxing and first impressions, then I'm going to update it to the new software, because this is you know it's not out yet. So this is a pre-release, and I'm going to test it and bring you out the in-depth review next week. However, let's check out the package right off the bat. I think that the packaging has been improved, they're, keeping their really kind of minimalistic style, but very, very high class.
So this is this feels like a nice high class product before you even open it minimalistic design, no unnecessary stuff anywhere, it just says super note and their logo, which I really do love for those who write, because once you actually start using this device, this logo makes a lot of sense. At least it does for me, it really does make a lot of sense. Alright, let's open it up all right, very nice box. Do we have magnetic here? Yes, we do magnets, love magnets, so snap up the magnets and, let's see whoa. Finally, yes, because I already have the heart of metal, but I never had the opportunity to actually test it out with the regular pen, and so I'm very, very much looking forward to that.
Wait. Wait I'm getting ahead of myself, so it says elegant productivity. I like that quite a bit, so we have first the folio. This feels like a very, very nice type of uh. Maybe leather, maybe faux leather- I don't know, but either way it's a very good quality feels nice, and I absolutely love the design of their flip book cover.
I think it's one of the best ones out there, and I'll explain a little later why the cover has a beautiful super note logo embossed in it the rail that you used to slide the device in and to hold it in place firmly, so no sticky, tapes, no magnets, nothing unreliable, just pure mechanical force, holding your device in place, something that I really love and the manufacturing, as you can see, is perfect, really, really good, and on the back, you get a tiny super note embossed. Also, on the bottom. In this package I got the regular pen, and you've seen me review the llama pen, which go with it and also the heart of metal series, but I've never had the experience to use this one. So I'm very, very happy to actually check that out. It comes with the same uh pattern inside so the ceramic nib, never change or everlasting nib inside.
So that's another thing: that's a huge positive of the supernode uh platform. So not only does it last forever, so you never have to change it, but it's also really, really sensitive super high quality, and it's a much thinner and smaller contact surface at 0.7 millimeters. So that means a lot more precision as well. Overall, I loved the heart of metal series pen, it's one of my absolute favorite pens and this one. The first impressions are yeah, it's not metal, but this is super high quality plastic super high quality finish: there's nothing cheap or bad about this one either.
Even though it is the cheaper or the cheapest option, they have. It still blows the competition out of the way completely even their cheapest one. So I really like what I see here. The pen, of course, does not have any buttons, no eraser on the back. You can put the cap on the back.
If you want, but yeah mainly it's just for writing it's a pen. Then we get the device. Oh nice, nice, nice, nice. Finally, to see this format that I really love so much, but in a bigger one. So this is pretty, pretty cool, yeah uh! I was kind of always wondering like why would you put that on? But I think that they are quite wise, because some users are not on this device, but on some other devices they were tearing off the protective screen cover for whatever reason so yeah.
It's a good idea to have this uh, just to kind of you know, be on a safe side. Nice thing to see. Then we get some documentation, product, warranty card, quick, start guide in several languages, um it's self-explanatory and super simple, but it does give you everything that you need to know and to get. You started stickers, and this is the um yeah user guide or information. Regarding the pen itself and finally, we get the USB a to USB long, high quality cable with the super note logo on it, so that you know which cable came from super note, which is really cool, and these are the contents of the box.
You get the device you get the pen depending on which package you ordered. That's the pen is gonna, be in there. You get the folio, you get the USB, a to c, cable, long, very good quality, and you get some documentation and some stickers overall, that's one of the things that I absolutely love about any and every super note package. So far you buy the box, and you're done. You don't have to order an extra this or an extra debt or think about.
If this is adequate or not adequate or anything like that, it's a complete package, you buy it, you assemble it, and you're ready to go. I really love that all right. Now, let's focus on the device and, let's unwrap it, I believe I should be able to slide it out there we go, and it has the very same kind of design and look like the a6x, but I have to say that I vastly prefer how this actually translates onto the larger a5 format. As I said, this is the first time I actually have this uh kind of experience, so it is the same design as the a5, I'm guessing that the only difference is going to be between the design. Are these two little uh protrusions that you have around the power button, but other than that it feels and looks pretty much exactly the same as the a5.
If you're not familiar with the supernode uh product, they are fairly unique in several aspects and that's something that I really love. So I would like to address those aspects here during the unboxing for those who are potentially new and considering this product. First, it's 375 grams, light or heavy. For me, that's on the lighter side, definitely lighter than the metal companions, so it feels very, very good. The thinness is adequate for the a5 format, the thickness or the thinness, I believe, is the same as on the a6x um, but it feels thinner I'll have to compare that at a later point, but it feels thinner because of an overall larger size and a larger format, and it feels a little more comfortable and more modern than the a6s x does.
For me, a6x is really, really lovely, but a little on the thicker side, so this definitely amends that it is all plastic built, there's a logic behind this and reasoning behind this, and that's longevity and basically flexibility and ruggedness. So, first, you can see that you have these rounded edges. No sharp corners anywhere manufacturing is excellent, really, really excellent, especially for an all plastic device. It's not easy to actually get all of these nooks and crannies kind of so precise and nicely milled. So that's definitely great, but the thing that I think makes most sense is when you actually consider that this is a M?bius, flexible screen.
That's powering this one 10.3 inch M?bius flexible screen, which means that it's yeah, it's very flexible for drops and things like that. I'm not going to be doing any of those things, but they've done tarot testing, and I can tell you that it definitely feels like something that can actually sustain day-to-day life, something that I'm not going to be afraid of if it slips out of the case or something like that, of course, I would feel sorry because it's so pretty, but still you know it's uh, it's a thing that should survive normal day-to-day use for a longer period of time. The whole front is covered by their own patented screen protector, which is a multi-layer type of thing, but that's the first specific thing about the supernode platform and that thing actually enables them to use a ceramic pen. In most cases, and in most devices you have the pen. Nib itself is the one that's soft, and it gives that soft feel and the screen surface is the one that is hard.
Not so, on the super note, a5x or a6x, it's the other way around. They are using a dedicated self regenerating. I think they call it uh surface on as the screen protector and that's a soft kind of rubbery type of feel which basically indents as you write, and it comes back as you finish, writing and that allows them to actually use a ceramic nib which would normally scratch a normal plastic or a glass screen or something like that over an extended period of use. You would definitely scratch it. So, of course you do not use these pens on non-supernode devices.
That goes without saying. I mean that's just common sense, however, because of that design they are able to actually have an everlasting nib, which means just a pen that writes the feeling, never changes. It's always consistent, and it's always precise, and it's a really, really cool thing. I personally really love the feel of this one. You will either like it or not like it, the feel of the surface.
Is it paper like? No, it's not. Is it glass like absolutely not it's a completely unique type of writing feel and that's something that definitely suits me. So that's point number one that makes supernode stand out. Point number two for me, a huge one that actually makes a supernode platform stand out. Is this slider on the side and for me on a day-to-day basis that slider on the side changes everything how you approach this uh whole platform? You can just check out my a6x review or next week when the a5x comes out.
That's basically changes the overall approach to the platform tremendously, because you just jump to documents, notes or whatever it is that you have. You no longer need to have a dedicated home screen. You can simply switch between modes of operation for the tablet itself. Those two combined, I think, put the supernode into a category of itself as a usability platform as everything else. So that's the front covered, let's switch it to the back on the back.
We have another very specific thing, which is this slot, and this slot is used for mounting the flip book cover. So basically, you slot it in right there in the middle, you have a metal latch that locks on, and then you have mechanical security of your flip book cover holding the device in place. It's not going to slide anywhere left or right, so no magnetic forces, no sticky tapes or anything like that. Good old, mechanical design holding your device in place and that's something that I always prefer as far as I'm concerned. I think this is the most elegant solution that I've seen on any of the devices, and I really love it and to top it off, we have the elegant design.
Just a discreet super note: logo, a kind of coffee cream type of color on the side here, white on the other one and, of course white. On top here there are no buttons on either of the sides. We have the power button on top and an USB on the bottom, and that's it that's that's the whole device, pretty much identical like a6x just scaled up, which is something that I love, and it just feels very, very nice. Now I can't wait to actually power it up and start testing, but, as I said, this is the um pre-release. This is a demo version, so some differences are gonna, be there definitely not as far as the design itself goes, but probably the uh, the software and all that kind of stuff.
So I think that the unit is starting sale on January or shipping on January 14th. Now one of the things that was a thing that I always noticed with the a6 and the a6x was uh build quality was meh. I was always kind of thinking about that, but I have to say that the a5x, for whatever reason it should be the same, but it definitely doesn't feel the same. It feels better. The fitting of the screen protector is.
It feels a lot more precise and, more importantly, that bend that was very pronounced on the a6 x is not that pronounced on the aa5x to my hands and my first impressions and just sensibilities. It feels um yeah, more complete and like a more uh, a robust type of design. Maybe that's what the larger format gives them more rigidity. On the lateral side of things I don't know, but either way, the end result is that it feels really, really good, and it looks really, really good all right. So now, let's slot it in the place, so you guys can see the whole package.
You simply align this guy to the slot. It starts slotting in once it does. It will stop at this middle latch, because you need to kind of push it there. So once it's there, you kind of push so that it goes past the latch, and then you continue pushing until it snaps click into place. Once it's in place, it's locked, it's not going absolutely anywhere, and it just looks fantastic, and I think that this is by far my app most favorite design of the overall package.
I've said so for the a6x and yeah the a6x, because of the smaller format is really charming and all that kind of stuff. Now, with the small with the bigger format, this is a serious workbook, notebook kind of thing doesn't screw around, doesn't really play around with anything, and it's a very, very nice tool. You just slide your pen in here there we go and then, when you, when you want to write you just write and once you're done, you go click and done so. The whole package looks like this and I really love how it looks. Oh my god guys.
I just noticed this. I don't believe it look at what they did. Wow all right, dudes from supernode are freaking awesome. I did not expect this. Not only did they spell it correctly, but they actually did this.
This is amazing. Oh, wow! This is really, really special. I did not expect this, so a very, very cool thing to see all right. You know what I'm extremely anxious. I want to do.
The first just writing test because yeah with the signature pen, which is freaking cool, so yeah, and to give you the sound and the complete thing. So, let's see if it has enough juice and everything else that I can do that initial test. Alright, so the first task is to slide down. Now I have to say I've been playing a lot of bass in guitar during the past three weeks, so my fingers are worse than ever, they're, just like calluses and layers of things, and I've noticed like no touch device likes me anymore. So, just if you see me repeating this, that's not the device's fault.
It's the layers upon layers of dead skin on my fingers gross, I know, but that's what you get when you play so at least I had fun, but the consequences are definitely there. Anyway. Oh yeah, I forgot to say that you slide downwards to actually get the menu, which is this one, but you also at any given point in time and any mode. It doesn't matter. You just slide up, and you refresh the screen and the ghosting is gone like the best approach of all devices and platforms.
Definitely I'm going to create a notebook, and I want to add my. I want to add a template. Just a normal eight millimeter ruler line apply, and we choose a pen. Oh, so there you go, that's the first test and as expected, it feels great because I really love. As I said, I love the way this platform feels, and this combination actually feels no, it's not raspy as a paper, nor is it supposed to be, but it just feels properly, properly good comfortable to write on.
But for me, what I find surprising is my first impression without any measurement or anything just purely subjective, it feels a little smoother and quicker and a little yeah just overall a little better than a6x. Maybe it's just the format itself. I don't know Delta will show when I start actually testing things out. Maybe it's the pen itself, maybe I prefer the feel of this pen. I don't know I'll test all of those things in the in-depth review, but for now I just had to kind of at least scribble a couple of notes and feel it and basically to um yeah, give the Goya pen a test drive.
I can't get over this. This is so freaking cool. I never expected anything like this, so yeah. What a cool thing to see, and one last thing unrelated to the uh yeah a5x um they've, also sent out this- is the a6x that was coming in the superstar pack with the lay pen was coming in this uh kind of package uh or the flip book cover, which is like a paper-like cardboard type of thing, but now they have this updated one which I think is leather. I'm not sure if you know how I feel about leather stuff.
I don't think it's necessary, but it is of a great quality, and it is of equally great quality like on the remarkable. So if that's something that you prefer sure it's there, however, the thing that I find really, really impressive is this, and this talks about what kind of company data are and how much they care about their customers and how much they care about the customer feedback. When I initially got the uh super note a6x for the review- and this is a superstar version with the lay pen, my initial uh fitting was tight. So this pen loop was a little tight, and it was like a tight squeeze it fitted, and it was fine, and it fits nice now after a bit of a use, it actually fits quite nicely, which is normal, but it was a little kind of tight. I never actually mentioned anything to data regarding that, but the new one, the updated one that comes now as default with the lay pen as part of the package is, has a slightly expanded pen loop so that the lamp pen fits perfectly.
I mean these kinds of details that type of attention to details. You don't even have to tell them they're just watching the reviews paying attention, and they have a checklist, and they're going through it. This is simply outstanding. So for me, it's the attention to details of that type is absolutely amazing, so you know 10 out of 10 as far as customer satisfaction and customer support goes absolutely 10 out of 10 for data, and this is what they say regarding the updated folio. In order to give back to our users for their continued love and support, we have decided to upgrade all users who have purchased the a6x lamina or the original lamp nebula folio, which is this one or this one to the new version for free, and we would appreciate if you could introduce this in your video.
So if you've purchased the original lay nebula folio, which is this one, or you purchase the original a6x uh lamp set or the superstar set, then you should contact them because you are entitled to actually get a free version of this one, the updated version which is more durable and, as they say, of a higher quality and definitely with a pen loop that fits the lamp pen pretty much super smoothly and perfectly very, very nice, and that's how you do stuff all right. So the a5x definitely a surprise. For me. The first impressions are for me very, very positive, simply because it's a platform that I already love, except that once it's scaled up to that a5 size, yeah, it kind of scales up from cute to serious and very, very usable a6x is also very, very usable. But you know the bigger format it just lends itself better for reading and writing and all that kind of stuff.
It's just more optimal, and it's extremely nice to see that the whole package that whole experience that you buy a product, and you get everything that you need to get you going from day, one no additional expenses, no additional concerns or anything like that. You just get the product, and it works, and it does what it needs to do. It's just something that I really, really like. Additionally, it looks like the build quality is better. I don't know, maybe that's just a personal impression of some sort, but that is the first impression that I do get.
It feels a little better than the a6 and the a6x I'm very, very curious to actually check it out and do the updates, because the coming updates are introducing even more things, and it just again shows how much and how active data is, because on a6x I mentioned it would have been nice if you could actually create word documents, not just edit them and presto here we go. A5X is now on January, coming with an update that will allow you to create word documents and edit them, so you can load up documents you can edit them. You have Bluetooth support like a6x does, and you can type we'll see how fast that is and how it works. It was a little clownish and um, not that responsive on the a6x. Maybe it's better on the a5x.
Maybe the update is actually updating it and that's something that I think is really important to keep in mind with data and one of the users made a wonderful comment, and they said, like. I agree with everything that you said, except the value for money. For me, value for money is their exceptional customer support and I absolutely agree, that's a very, very valid point and that's something that I would definitely amend, and I would like to actually say that yeah maybe a6x is pricey. A5X is definitely not pricey, because the pre-order price is 449 dollars for the whole thing for the whole shebang and the retail price is going to be 4.99, and you get a premium cover. You get a device, and you get one of the best bands in the market here so, and it's a pen that never spends its just so much here.
So definitely an extremely important and strong contender for this niche midpoint, which is the a5. So I think it's going to be very important and interesting to do a tarot review of this one and then a very nice and detailed comparison between the remarkable 2 note air and the super note a5x, because I believe that, of course those three are the big contenders, but those three are the ones that people are probably going to be thinking between. So we'll see how that goes. So I just want to say big. Thank you to supernode for sending me the device and a huge thank you to whoever actually thought of and realized this little thing.
It's extremely thoughtful and a very, very nice thing to see. So. Thank you very much. Thank you so much for watching. If you like, the video please like and subscribe, and consider checking out the deep guide on patreon.
