What's up YouTube Jeff back again, and today I'm continuing my coverage of the Google Pixel 5. I've made a couple videos so far. I did a first impression, video, which I'll link below, if you want to check that out after about five days with the device, I also made my first 10 things to do video so that if you get the pixel 5 here in the US, it comes out on Friday of this week, get a new pixel 5. You want to know how to set up the phone. You can check that out today. I want to talk about an issue that a lot of people have been asking me about, and they asked about in the previous two videos and if you've read you know, the news surrounding the pixel 5 launch.
You've probably already read this yourself. That is this um issues that have been reported with gaps between the phone's display and the frame. Now I just took an excerpt from one of my favorite news sites about it, which is android police, android police. They reported this um and sort of showed what was happening with some people around the internet, so I'll link this article below, but you can kind of see there on the black pixel 5. It's kind of apparent on this pixel 5 that the display is separating from the aluminum chassis of the phone itself and then there's several other pictures here that people posted of varying degrees of issues you can kind of see it right there as well a little of an issue there.
So you know with all these reports and android police also reported that their unit was affected, although much less than others they have the sage green model. Just like I do, you can see right there uh what their unit looks like. So quite a few people asked me in the previous video. If I noticed this with my device now before I started reading the reports, I really hadn't noticed this at all. Let me say, as a disclaimer, I had mainly been using it in the fabric case and the spec case that I showed you guys before, and I really wasn't looking for this, but once the report started circulating I started looking around my sage green model.
Most people are reporting that it's happening on this side here where the sim tray is, and if you look closely, so I've got my OnePlus 8t right here. Actually I'm going to use the um flashlight really quick there. It is so you guys can see, maybe a little better. If you look right around here, you can see ever so slightly. There is a little of a gap on mine, so it's not what I would call pronounced, and it's certainly not that big of a deal.
I haven't really even seen any dust in there because I kind of look to see, but I imagine there could get some in there if you weren't using a case, but you can see there is a little gap on mine and if you actually look at it, it kind of looks similar to the android police one. But it's mainly there near the top like a tiny little gap. So obviously you know the ones that I showed you the pictures of on the black model. If we go back and look at those that very first one, you know this is a huge problem. If my phone looked like this, I would be a little more upset.
People are saying: maybe it's just more noticeable on the black model, but obviously you guys kind of saw there with the bright light that I showed you. This is certainly not what's happening on mine's, not completely separating because it would be a lot more pronounced, even with the sage, green color you'd be able to see it a little more on this side. So personally I would say, even though mine does appear to have a little gap, I'm not sure that it's something I would be particularly concerned about. I understand people are worried about the water resistance and such, but I have a feeling that if you look, you know on any other phone there's a little of space there. Obviously on mine, it's not as dramatic as this one.
So I'm not as worried, but obviously it is a problem that that is out there. Google has said they're researching it. I just wanted to touch on it, because people have been asking about my review unit in particular. So uh will we see more of this? Well. Obviously, the phone just launched last week in most countries, and it's coming to the US this week.
So as more people get units, there's certainly a possibility now around the rest of my device. I haven't really noticed any at all. In fact, I'll show you guys again, just for completeness um show the rest of the device. You can see there at the top, so you know the sides here. That's the only place.
I really see a tiny little gap and not even that much of one here along the side. Mine looks much better than the ones that you saw in the photos. I would say mine looks much better than even the android police unit, so I'm not sure that it's every single unit that's affected. You can see here on this side on the bottom. Nothing really so just a little.
Perhaps, on that side, where the sim tray is, which is where most people are reporting it but uh, you know considering I use a case, I'm not something that I would notice until people brought attention to it. If you guys happen to get the Google Pixel 5 this weekend, uh if you get one delivered on Friday, certainly chime in the comments- and let me know, let me know what you think about the issue: have you seen other people around the internet with it? I've only seen it confined to a few review sites and a couple of forums, but that's because there really aren't that many devices out there at this point um. So if you guys have any more feedback drop it in the comments, I'll have some more videos coming up on the OnePlus 8t. Other phones as well. I'm going to have the iPhone at some point too.
I don't know how many videos I'll do, because I know most of you guys, love android. You can find me on Twitter and Instagram the links in description, and I'll see you guys in the next one thanks a lot for watching you.
