Pixel 5 One Week Impressions: Impressive Battery Life!

What's up YouTube Jeff back again, and today I am back. It's been a long time. I honestly have no excuse for not making videos this year. It's been 2020. I think everyone knows what I mean, and I just haven't felt like making videos um just been living life and uh, but now I feel like I want to try to come back and make some stuff again, hopefully have some passion for the tech again and what better phone to do it with as an android fan than the pixel 5 5g. My friends at Google sent this out to me.

I'm sure you guys have seen a lot of people receive these. I really appreciate them sending it out. Considering I haven't been too consistent making videos this year. I would certainly understand if they didn't send me one um, but I really appreciate that they did so. I figured I'd get into some of my impressions here.

Furthermore, I've had this phone now for five days, talk about the battery life uh, what I've seen so far and then try to do a full review. It's been a long time since I've done a full review on a phone um, so you guys kind of know what comes in the box. I really am not too keen on well, you know, take a look at the specs really quick! So is this really nice sage green colorway, which I really do like a lot uh. You can see the specs right there, you've got 5g millimeter, wave sub 6 6 inch display only one screen size this year on the pixel 5. Uh sorta sage is the color, which I love, 128 gigabytes base model.699 is the price on this. Of course, you get your power adapter, um and other googly type packaging.

On the inside as usual, it looks pretty similar to most google phones that you've seen in the past few years. I already have so many charges around here. I probably won't even take this one out of the box, to be honest, just because I have so many okays. So let's look at the phone itself. The phone itself is a very nice device kind of interesting that they decided to move away from the super high-end high-priced flagship category and into sort of more of a budget type, not a budget.

It's like the premium budget segment, but to be honest with you one of the things I was most struck by when I first unboxed the phone and started using it is the build quality and the overall feel of the phone. Now there's been a lot of varying opinions on this. I personally love the feel of this device in the hand um it's very interesting because it's a metal phone. You know no glass anymore, but it's got this kind of like paint on the back in like one specific area, there's a cut-out, so they can do wireless charging most of the time when you think about wireless charging, you usually think about glass phones, of course, so this phone is not made of glass, but it does still have wireless charging and that was accomplished by doing that, cut out and sort of painting over it. So it has a really nice matte feel it's almost impossible to get fingerprints on this.

No matter how hard you try, it's not going to show fingerprints, I mean barely it's very hard, especially on the sage, green colorway, and you've got a nice reflective, google logo there and then one of my other favorite touches. Is this nice chromed out power button right here which, on the green model is also you know, looks like a nice green color on that side with the mat? It's a really nice contrast. Of course, your camera cut out on the back speaker on the bottom. You got your charging port and everything no headphone jack as usual, and perhaps my favorite return this year on the pixel device, a fingerprint sensor instead of face ID or face unlock, I was just not a huge fan. I don't like face unlock it's one of the reasons why I can't use an iPhone as my primary phone for the last couple of years, just because I don't care for face ID.

It's not my favorite thing. Having a pixel with a fingerprint sensor again is the primary sort of security method. In terms of biometric security is kind of a big deal and I really do appreciate uh having that option again. Otherwise, the software very snappy, of course running the brand-new android 11, which I actually haven't, spent too much time with this year, because in the past, of course, you guys know I usually do the beta reviews. But since I haven't been making that many videos, I really didn't use the android 11 beta as much as I would have in the past uh.

So a lot of really cool features like when you have media controls. You can switch between the different ones like I have pocket cast here. You can see it's like paginated here at the top, so you can go between like pocket cast. If you have Spotify there, you can go to another media app at the top, a lot of others really under the hood improvements as well, but some really cool little things that I didn't really know about, because I hadn't been using the beta. As usual, I mean it's very snappy.

A lot of people have made a big deal about the fact that uh, this does not have the top snapdragon processor, the 700 series processor. Instead, I don't think it really matters at all. It's flies in terms of the software optimization that google always does, and even if you play games or watch a lot of media or do multitasking, this phone can still handle all of those things. So it's really not that big of a deal, the higher refresh rate on the display, looks great, perhaps the biggest thing for me to get used to. Even though it's not a problem, and I know a lot of people like it is it's got this.

You know smaller display compared to what I'm used to using. You know super sized phones, my previous daily driver has been the note 20 ultra, which is way bigger than this phone uh, obviously and uh, but I like if it's nice and pocketable, and if you like, a smaller sized phone you'll, definitely like this. It also has flat edges on the front instead of the curved edges, which I know a lot of people, don't like that. On the Samsung phones because of accidental touches and all that kind of stuff, so a lot of people will like that as well. I think the phone looks nice.

It runs really well at 6.99 I mean some people. I've read today some initial reports saying it's overpriced. I don't feel that way. Um I feel like you're, getting one hell of a phone and if you want the pure Google experience the camera, as always as, I said, I'm going to try to do a full review. I've taken quite a few shots with the camera so far I'll try to link an album, so you guys can kind of see those in full resolution, but the camera's been really impressive.

I don't really know. One thing is the telephoto versus the wide angle debate I personally like having the telephoto myself um, just because I find it more useful in practice. But of course you know that that's a debate that you have to have your preference, but the main camera is still probably the best camera on android. I think it's still better than the one on the note 20 ultra that I used as my daily driver before this and then the other big thing about this phone, even though they didn't, you know, have a larger screen size device and have a XL device this year. The battery in this home is pretty large, 4 000 William hours and the battery life.

I've gotten has been very good on this device. So far, I've been using it primarily on Wi-Fi because I'm still mainly working from home, I'm only going to the office a couple of days a week at the university so really haven't used it on LTE all that much, but I average between seven and a half to ten hours. Depending on how much LTE I do use of screen on time, which is really beastly. Considering last year the smaller pixel 4 had some battery life issues. It seems, like those have all been resolved for the most part um with this new device.

So at the end of the day, I do think it's pretty impressive, the value you're getting I mean. Obviously, it depends on if you're a fan of google software experience and those things, but if you do want that, you want the most reliable android updates, and you also get things like the pixel feature drops, etc. Those things are all included in this package. It's 6.99, it's not a bad deal at all, in my personal opinion, for one of the best cameras and perfect battery life. Now I know people always ask which case I'm using spec actually sent me out a case.

They sent me the official google case too, from Google fabric. This is the pixel to case from spec. That's what I'm using right now. Actually I just got it yesterday, so I've been testing that out a little, so I'll drop the link below if anyone's interested, in this case from specs what it looks like. I know the phone doesn't come out here in the US.

For a few weeks, uh and google also sent me uh the Pixel Buds to pair with my pixel 5. So I'm going to try to do a little mini review of that you guys can see it pops up right. There pairs instantly when you open it um, so I'm definitely going to try to do a little mini review of these first time, using the Pixel Buds, compare them to the galaxy, buzz, live and some other stuff that I've gotten over the last few months that I just haven't made videos about anyway, hope you guys enjoyed this initial impressions, I'm going to try to follow up with a full review. This time I got a couple other phones that I also want to review. I want to try to do a review of the galaxy um z-fold 2, because I've had that for a month, and I love that phone and obviously not that many people got that phone, so it might be worth giving another opinion on that one and then some other phones coming out like the OnePlus, 8t, etc.

, so stay tuned off some more stuff. For you guys, please, like comment subscribe, if you haven't um, I'm glad to be back for a video. I've had a lot of fun making this one so hope you guys enjoyed it. You can find me on Twitter Instagram the links in description, and I'll see you guys in the next video thanks a lot for watching.
