A few days ago, OnePlus launched it's not CE 5g in India. The CE here stands for core edition which, according to the company, is that this smartphone comes with only the code features. Oh, well. The 3.5 mm headphone jack is back. This is also the slimmest smartphone that OnePlus has made since this OnePlus 6t. Here we will be taking a look at how the smartphone performed during our review, and we will be finding out if this should be your next smartphone or not.
The OnePlus not CE 5g is priced at rs 22 999 for the base, 6 GB ram, 128 storage variant. It is available in two other variants: 8gb ram and 128gb storage variant fought, rupees, 24999 and 12gb ram 256gb storage variant for rupees 27999 to get the specifications out of the way the OnePlus not CE sports, a 6.43-inch full HD, plus AMOLED display with a 90 hertz refresh rate. It is powered by the Qualcomm snapdragon 750 jeeps soc. The device runs google's android 11 operating system with the company's own oxygen OS 11 on top. All of this is backed by a 4500 my battery, with support for the company's own warp charge, 30d plus fast charging technology.
It features a 64 megapixel primary sensor, paired with an 8 megapixel ultra-wide angle lens and a 2 megapixel monochrome sensor at the back on the front it sports, a 16, megapixel, selfie camera, the OnePlus note CE, looks and feels just like any other OnePlus smartphone the back panel and the frame are made out of plastic which do make the phone feel light, but do not provide the premium, feel a glass back and a metal frame would have. I would have preferred if the company had provided us with a metal frame on the device. However, considering the price, the all plastic build does not bother me. The back panel has a smooth matte finish, which makes it feel premium. The blue white color also looks amazing, especially with the violet shadings toward the edges.
Overall, the phone manages to keep a low profile design and looks just like any other OnePlus smartphone available right now. The plastic build does lower the quality of the in-hand feel, but at the price it does not seem as problematic as it would have been on a premium smartphone. One of the core features for me in a smartphone would be a 90hz AMOLED display, which is the one we get on the new, not CE. However, there is no hdr10 support. The display has punchy colors and provides great viewing angles.
The brightness levels are pretty adequate with the display being legible under direct sunlight and dim enough to not hurt your eyes in complete darkness. It also comes with multiple color collaboration profiles to tweak the display to your liking. The 90 hertz refresh rate makes browsing the UI easier and more flowing the device features a variable refresh rate, which lowers the refresh rate at times to help conserve the battery. However, this does make navigating the UI, sometimes a bit choppy. Also, the hole punch cut out is a bit irritating as it hinders the viewing experience.
Just like the 3.5 mm headphone jack OnePlus should now bring back the pop-up selfie camera coming to the performance the device managed to perform. All the tasks I threw at it easily. There were a few minor stutters here and there, but not as much as for me to leave the phone aside with regular usage, I found the device to manage all of my tasks easily without any issues. The interface felt very snappy apps loaded quickly or even while jumping between apps, I did not find any delays or unexpected shutdowns playing games for extended hours on the north ce5g did not post any issues the device easily managed to handle all the games I played on it, including Crash Bandicoot, on the run. As for nine legends and Call of Duty mobile to name a few, all the games were played in the highest visual settings.
The gameplay was smooth, and I did not notice any lags or stuttering. After around an hour, the phone started to get a bit uncomfortable to hold and play games on, pushing it further. I started noticing the device throttling a bit after an hour and a half of constant gameplay. After around 2 hours of constant gameplay, I had to keep the device aside for some time to let it cool down. Overall, in day, to day usage, you will not face any problems with the device, and it will hold on its own with daily tasks, even if you like to play resource intensive games and do not like to kill off your apps.
However, if you are a power user, you might face a bit of difficulty with a lot of your apps and browser tabs that are open, being killed. Oxygen. Os 11 has not changed much since I took a look at it on the OnePlus 9. New users will not face any issues in using the skin and will easily manage to adapt to it. The fingerprint sensor and the facial recognition are fast and accurate.
Coming to the cameras, the primary 64 megapixel sensor in ample light, manages to capture good images with decent amount of details and good color saturation. However, the edge detection seems to be a bit off and, while shooting objects close up, the camera was having difficulties in focusing some shots with too many elements and a wider range of lighting profiles came out a bit flat and lacking dynamic range. Sometimes the camera would over saturate an image making it sort of unusable. Due to a lot of exposure being present, the device can zoom up to 10 times using the primary sensor. However, the zoomed in photos come out with a lot of grain and are not up to the mark.
The 8 megapixel wide angle camera took images which were comparatively weaker in details, but did not skimp on the colors. The 2 megapixel monochrome sensor seems like a wasted opportunity to me, considering that if you can use the 64 megapixel sensor to take good images and then apply the monochrome filter on top, that would be easier. I did not find a use for this sensor. The portrait shots came out good with a good amount of detail and a wide gamut of colors. However, I felt that the edge detection feature is not perfect and most images came out with the object having the edges blurred out low light images, as expected were not up to the mark with a lot of grain and blurred out patches using nights cape, the image's quality did improve, but it's not magic and I got to see some grain in the images low light images also had focusing issues and the colors seemed a bit washed out images taken using the front.
Camera came out with good detail and colors in good lighting conditions. However, if the light source was too bright, the images would come out over saturated the north CE seems to be over sharpening and brightening the images using its algorithms. You can adjust this by setting the beauty filter to level one. However, it won't completely turn off low light. Captures suffer the same fate as the rear cameras with there being a lot of noise and grain introduced into the images the phone easily managed to provide me with around two days worth of moderate usage on a single charge.
My usage included browsing social media apps, receiving calls sending text messages watching OT content playing a few games and taking a few images during heavy usage, which included, extended gaming sessions watching a few Netflix movies and using Google Maps and more the device was able to last me for around 9 hours on a single charge. The device, along with the inbox charger, was able to charge up to 100 in 62 minutes. This, according to me, is a very comfortable speed for charging the battery without straining it. A lot OnePlus with the not ce5g, has managed to deliver on its promise of a smartphone with all the core features a consumer requires starting at rupees 22 999. The not ce5g, is a very compelling option.
It does not have many drawbacks, and it is a good mid-range contender to get. I personally like the display, the performance and the software of the device. There are a few drawbacks like a plastic frame, no IP rating and more, but they do not outweigh the price value that the OnePlus not CE.5G currently provides that's a wrap from our side on the one plus not CE, 5g review.
