OnePlus 8 Pro vs OnePlus 7 Pro: Is It Worth Upgrading? By Christian David

OnePlus has finally taken the wraps off of the OnePlus 8 series led by the ultra powerful 1+8 pro. The device has the latest and greatest internal specifications, a modern design and, unfortunately, a higher price tag. Alongside launching the OnePlus 8 pro OnePlus has discontinued the year old one plus seven pro, though you may still be able to get your hands on it somewhere online, but which device is better and should you upgrade if you have the OnePlus 7 pro, I put the two phones head-to-head to find out. The first thing to notice about these two phones is their design and while they look similar at first glance, there are some key differences in design on the front of the OnePlus 7 pro you'll get a six point.

Six seven inch display with a 1440p resolution and a ninety Hertz refresh rate. That already makes for an excellent display experience, but the 1+8 pro manages to step things up even further by increasing the refresh rate to 120 Hertz and a six point. Seven eight inch display now it's important to note that the step-up from ninety Hertz to 120 Hertz is relatively minor and nowhere near as important as the step-up from sixty Hertz to ninety Hertz. That said, there still is a difference, and while you might not be able to immediately see it, you can feel it, or I can anyway. Another difference.

That's related to the display is the placement of the front-facing camera on the OnePlus 7 pro you'll get one plus mechanical pop up camera, while the eight pro instead offers a bunch cut out now. This is really down to personal preference, but I actually prefer the cutout for the camera sure it does make for a small obstruction in the display, but actual moving parts like the pop-up camera can have an impact on the phone's durability, and you'll hardly notice the cutout in the pro anyway. The back of the phones are relatively similar to the OnePlus 8 Pro is a little taller, but they both have a vertical camera bump the OnePlus logo and OnePlus branding at the bottom. Speaking of the camera bump, the one on the pro is pretty huge, and it's quite a bit thicker than the one on the seven pro. The result is that it moves a little more on the desk when you tap on the edges.

I'm hoping smartphone manufacturers start reducing camera bump sizes in the near future, but that seems unlikely at this point on the left of both phones. You'll, get a power button and ring a switch, while on the right is a volume rocker and on the bottom, you'll get a USB-C port. The OnePlus 7 pro came in three colors, including nebula, blue almond and mirror gray, while the OnePlus 8 pro comes in glacial green ultramarine, blue and onyx black I'm reviewing the Glacial green model, and it looks great, but you can't go wrong with any of the colors. The performance of these two phones is one of the biggest differences between them. The OnePlus 7 pro was an excellent device for its time and is still an excellent performer.

It comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, coupled with either 6 gigs, 8, gigs or 12 gigs of ram and either 128 gigs or 256 gigs of storage. The OnePlus 8 pro, on the other hand, steps things up with us dragon a65 and either eight gigs or twelve gigs of ram. Both phones perform well in day-to-day use, including during gaming and multitasking. In other words, you really shouldn't have any problems with the performance of either of the two phones, especially not during the first year or so of use. That said, there's no denying that the OnePlus 8 pro is more powerful on both an tutu and Geek bench 5.

The OnePlus 8 pro seriously outperform the 7 pro. So if performance is a top priority for you, then the April is worth buying over the 7 Pro. The battery life on the phones is actually pretty similar, though the OnePlus 8 pro should offer a slightly improved battery life. The 7 Pro has a four thousand William hour battery, while the eight pro steps things up to a four thousand five hundred and ten William hour battery. Despite the high refresh rate in my battery test, which involves streaming a 1080p video from YouTube of Wi-Fi for three hours at maximum brightness, the pro ended the test with 73% of the battery remaining, while the seven pro ended with 70%.

In both cases, the phones performed well and should easily last a full day of use, if not more OnePlus phones have never competed with the best in terms of their camera, but the OnePlus 8 pro does step things up a little. The 7 pro offers a triple lens camera, with 148 megapixel main sensor, one 8 megapixel telephoto sensor and 116 megapixel ultra-wide sensor and photos taken with the device to look pretty good photos aren't always as detailed as those from the likes of the pixel or iPhone 11 Pro, but they're still high quality and beat most other phones in the $700 price range. The eight pro, however, offers a quad lens camera with a 48 megapixel main sensor, an 8 megapixel telephoto sensor, a 48 megapixel ultra-wide sensor and a 5 megapixel color photo camera. Generally speaking, the photos taken with the device are better than the 7 Pro offering more detail better. Color reproduction and more photos still aren't quite as good as the best of the best out there, but they do compete with other flagship phones.

The speakers on both the 1 + 7 Pro and the 1 + 8 Pro are good and they both get pretty loud. That said, the speakers on the pro seem to get that little louder and seem to have a little more depth to them too. It's a minor change and not really worth buying one device over the other because of the speakers, but still something to note. Here's a quick comparison between the two phones, the speaker's actual real-life audio quality, will be different. Considering the fact that you're listening through a microphone then you're in headphones or speakers, but at least you can get an idea of the difference between the two devices.

The software experience on OnePlus phones has always been pretty good, and that remains true here. Both the OnePlus 7 pro and 1+8 pro offer the relatively stripped back oxygen OS, and it's easy to navigate smooth and well-built. That said, there is one major difference between the software on these two phones and that's the fact that the OnePlus 8 pro finally offers the Google feeder instead of the OnePlus shelf I'm, expecting the Shelf to be replaced with the Google feed on other OnePlus phones through a software update eventually, but OnePlus hasn't made any announcements regarding that, yet the only other major difference between the OnePlus 7 pro and the OnePlus a pro is the fact that the pro has 5g now for many that won't really matter, especially considering the fact that 5g isn't necessarily that widely available. That said, if you want a phone that will support 5g once it's available in your area, the OnePlus 8 pro is the way to go. If you can still get your hands on the OnePlus 7 pro and of deciding between these two phones, then the OnePlus 8 pro is clearly the better option.

But it's also a lot more expensive than the OnePlus 7 pro, and that makes it a tough sell. If you have the cash and want an incredible phone, the OnePlus 8 pro is the way to go. But if you already have the OnePlus 7 probes, then it's not really worth upgrading to the new device just yet, especially considering the $900 price tag.
