My Apple Watch Series 6 review is here: let's see what a lifelong android user thinks of the 40 mm space gray edition stay tuned, hello, guys, welcome back to tech, it is easy so the Apple Watch Series six. What do we think? Well, as you might already know, I'm a lifelong android user and boy do. I have some things to say about the Apple Watch: six yeah, it's pretty good! Actually, now, despite being a lifelong android user, this will be a completely unbiased review. I promise anyway, let's just get straight into it. If you do enjoy the video, please do leave a like and a comment and if you're new here please do subscribe to the channel. So as always, let's kick things off with a quick unboxing.
My immediate impressions were actually perfect. The whole experience felt very well-thought-out and had a really nice premium feel to it compared to the galaxy watch. It was much, much better. First impressions do matter so inside the box. We of course get the watch itself with some extremely satisfying stickers to peel off.
We also get some watch straps in various different sizes. With some very clear instructions to follow on how to install them, they literally just slide in like so also included, is a charging cable, but no wall plug this time. So if you are a first-time apple user, that is something to bear in mind now other than that there's really not much else in the watch. So we can just move on to the setup now and there's really not much. I can say here, which is a good thing, because that just means it was really simple and really quick to do.
We just placed the iPhone XS near the watch itself and the whole process started automatically, which was really, really nice if you're not a techie. That is something I value in products like this. It makes the whole experience a hell of a lot easier. Everything was set up within minutes. The new Apple Watch Series 6 comes in two sizes.
You can get the 40 millimeter or the 44 millimeter version similar to previous models. You also get that rotating crown which you can use to navigate around the watch as well as a touchscreen. Now the Apple Watch Series 6 comes in many versions, materials and color options. So, for example, you can get it in aluminum, stainless steel or titanium with various different color options for each material choice. This particular model we have here, though, is the 40 millimeter space, great edition, and this is the GPS edition.
You can get them as GPS and cellular now. There is often some confusion of what the GPS and sally versions can and can't do the main question being. Can you make and receive calls on the GPS version, and the answer is of course: yes, you can so long as your watch is in proximity to your phone? You can do exactly the same things as you can on the cellular version. You just can't take your watch away from the phone and do those things whilst on the subject of making calls, we might as well jump into a quick microphone test just to see how it performs for when you are making calls with it. This is a microphone test for the Apple Watch Series, six very similar to the galaxy watch, and it's just about all.
You need on a smartwatch, so that was the microphone test for the Apple Watch Series. Six, no complaints here from me: everyone I've had a phone call with as well never complained about it. So I'm happy with that. Another key spec I want to talk about is that 5 ATM waterproofing, which allows you to wear the watch in the shower and even take it swimming with you, something that I've come to expect from modern smartwatches, with advanced monitoring capabilities, which brings us nicely on to its health and fitness tracking capabilities. So the Apple Watch Series 6 does have a range of health tracking features which include blood, oxygen, monitoring, sleep, tracking blood pressure, heart rate and, of course, your steps counter.
I'm not sure how many of you are actually going to make use of things like the blood oxygen monitoring, but it's certainly a good option to have for more vulnerable people out there, especially with apple's SOS feature which can automatically call emergency surfaces if it detects a hard fall and detects that you aren't able to move. This is a great feature, but going back on to these sensors, what it can't do is detect things like heart, attacks, strokes and other heart related issues. What it can do is detect irregular heart rhythms, which I still do think is great, and it does get me excited about the future of smartwatches. Coming from someone who's had issues with their heart. In the past, I can safely say that having a device on your wrist that can perform something like an ECG is going to be absolutely game-changing for the future.
Having all these monitoring features sound like they're, going to be a bit of a burden on your battery life and, in my opinion, this is where the Apple Watch Series 6, doesn't quite shine, so brightly apple state that the watch has 18 hours of battery life with a charging time of 1.5 hours. This sounds okay, but from experience I'm not getting that. Yes, with some battery saving features on, you might be able to get it to stretch, but I don't buy things like this to turn off all the features I want to be making use of them all the time most of the time it does just about make it to the end of the day, but only barely, which brings the question. When do I charge this thing? If you're monitoring things like steps, you kind of want to be keeping it on as much as possible, which is an issue if you also want to make use of the sleep tracking feature, maybe I'm being fussy here, but do let me know in the comments what you think of that, but for me, I really struggle to find the right time to charge this, because if I want to have the sleep tracking on all night, that means I'm going to have to charge it in the morning, which is a struggle before I want to go to work. Now back onto a more positive note, let's talk about the Apple Watch Series 6 performance.
This was something that really stood out to me. Everything feels really snappy and fluid. There's no stuttering when browsing through the menu and other features. I can see a subtle improvement since the last version, so I have to tip my hat off to apple for that also, since the last version, there is now an improved Wi-Fi antenna that now supports 5 gigahertz. The series 6 comes with the same u1 chip that was seen on the iPhone 11 Pro, which really does open doors to what this watch can actually do, something that really complements the Apple Watch.
Series 6 performance is that super crisp, OLED display colors, really pop on screen and everything just feels as sharp as it would on a smartphone more than enough for a smartwatch. My only issue- and I will point out this- is just my opinion- is that square design. I just don't like it now. Admittedly, it is better for scrolling, and it is probably better for a smartwatch, but I myself prefer a much more classical look to my smartwatch, which is why I love the galaxy watch so much. This is somewhat of a controversial topic, so do put down in the comments whether you like the square design or not, or you prefer, a more traditional looking watch now.
It's a shame that I can't learn to like the square design, because I was actually quite impressed with some customizable watch faces apple has to offer. Now they don't look quite as realistic as some watch faces. The galaxy watch has to offer, but they're unique and well quite fun really. So in a way I wish the galaxy watch had this sort of customization on their watch faces, but at the same time it's a huge. Let down that apple doesn't allow third party watch face developers to sell their designs.
You can of course share your watch faces with friends over messages, but there's only so far you can go with customizing. Your Apple Watch faces, and you're never going to have as much of a selection as you do on the galaxy watch. Okay, so we're going to wrap things up soon, but before we do that, I want to talk about compatibility. This is something that I think has really let the Apple Watch Series 6 down. In my opinion, the Apple Watch Series 6 does not work with android, and that is a real shame, because its main competitor, which is probably the galaxy watch, does work with apple and still has use of most of its main features.
I can understand to a point why Apple have done this from a business perspective, but nonetheless it still lets the watch down even if you're an apple user, you still need an iPhone 6s or later to be able to connect to the device. So do bear that in mind. Last but not least, with everything I've talked about in mind, let's take a look at the price, so the least expensive series six is the Apple Watch, 36 SE, GPS version. This will set you back 269 pounds which is roughly 348 dollars if you're in the US, and they go all the way up to 700 pounds or 900 for the gold case version, even passing that with certain wok strap combinations. In my opinion, that's just mad for a smartwatch.
I would stick to something like we have here in the view which goes for around 379 pounds or 490 for my US friends. So my final thoughts on the Apple Watch Series 6. As an android user. I did have my doubts about it, but there are many things that have really impressed me and I couldn't sit here and tell you not to buy it. It really is a phenomenal piece of technology, and I'm excited to see where apple go from here, but was it enough to convert me from Samsung honestly, no, I'm just not ready to enter the apple bubble.
I think I'd miss having the freedom just to mix and match my devices, and I'm sorry, but I really don't like that square design. So, to conclude, if you're an apple user, you've got the green light for me, it's a great piece of tech and, if you're an android user thinking of going over to the dark side. Sorry I mean switching to apple, really have a good long think about it before you do it, but in all seriousness, well done apple. So, thank you so much for watching, and I'll hopefully see you in the next one. You.
