This is the Motorola edge, plus the best smartphone that Motorola has made in years. It features top specs, impressive battery life, millimeter-wave 5g, a very good camera and the beautiful screen that flows over the edge of the phone like a waterfall. Also, it costs less than Samsung and Apple flagship sat exactly 1000 dollars, hello. Everyone Vic here with phone, marina and I have spent the last few days using the Motorola edge plus, as my daily driver. Here's what you should know about it. First, the edge plus, is quite a big phone about the same size as the Galaxy S 20 plus.
At the same time, because of those 90-degree curved edges, it is quite narrow which makes it easy to hold in just one hand with a firm grip. It's also a hair thicker than most other phones, but that extra hair of thickness is the trade-off to get that massive 5,000 William hour battery, and we certainly don't mind that one rather unique design feature is that the top and bottom of the phone have this concave form that allows you to stand the phone upright, and it will stay this way without falling, which is quite cool. All physical buttons are on the right side of the phone, and while the power key is very small, its rigid texture actually makes it easy to find without looking, and we had no issues with it. And yes, you also have a headphone jack at the top of the phone. Motorola proves that it is possible to have both a huge battery and the headphone jack.
Some other company had the courage to kill the headphone jack a few years ago, but these days it takes courage to include it, and we applaud Motorola for providing that choice for users who might want it. One thing that is missing on the list of specs, however, is an official ip68 waterproof rating. The certification is an extra cost and Motorola has skipped it, but the company does say that the edge plus has being tested to the same water protection standards. So you should be good to go, but what's most distinctive on the edge plus is the screen it's in the name, and it's in the DNA of this phone. The screen curves and slopes and Falls nearly 90 degrees like a waterfall over the edge I'll, usually prefer a flat screen, but I have to admit that a curved screen like this one makes the common swipe to go back.
Gesture is so much easier. Motorola seems to also have some form of palm rejection here, and I had very few accidental touches, while using the phone I cannot say the same thing about Samsung phones with curved screen. For example, the Galaxy Note templates without the case was very annoying because of those accidental touches. Now speaking of cases, you do get one included in the box with the Motorola edge, plus it's a clear silicone case. It wraps around the phone from all sides, while still allowing your access to those curved edges of the screen.
Now, without this case, the phone rocks pretty badly when lying flat, and it is impossible to type on while it's laying flat, but the case fixes that so is it all good with the curved screens? Well, not everything is quite perfect. The tiny part of the screen that overflows on the left and right sides actually remains out of sight when you look at the phone directly so in real life. This meant that on many web pages, where you have text to the left to the right that tanks would not be visible now. Luckily, Motorola is well aware of this issue and has included the option to add an artificial bezel to any app. So those overflowing parts are no longer an issue.
There is one more trick. The edge screen can do edge lighting, where you can have the phone line on its screen and have the edges light up. When you receive a notification which is quite cool and one thing you may find missing, if you're switching from galaxy is the always-on display option that is not present here. So, as for the screen itself, it's absolutely gorgeous the Motorola H Plus comes with a six point: seven inch AMOLED display, which has beautiful colors and a 1080p resolution with plenty sharp detail. The screen comes with three different color modes from the neutral one, with its balanced color profile to the boosted mode, which gives you that extra pop and if we had to point out the single best decision that Motorola has made on the edge plus is that it uses a 90 Hertz refresh rate.
It doesn't go all the way to 120 Hertz as the s20 series, but that is exactly what we like. We saw how a hundred and twenty Hertz obliterates battery life on the galaxy s 20 series. Well here you don't have such battery issues while still getting that buttery smooth performance thanks to the higher refresh rate. Now in terms of biometrics, the Motorola H plus best on an in screen fingerprint scanner of the optical kind. The scanner is placed towards the bottom of the phone and this within easy reach.
It's quick and easy to enroll your fingerprint, and while it's not quite as fast as OnePlus phones, it's definitely a much faster and better experience will say. Samsung's, Galaxy phones, now on the list of important details for this phone is also its high quality, strong vibration motor. It is no less impressive than Apple's tactic engine good job on this Motorola. But let's take a look at the actual software. Shall we, the h, plus, comes with a clean version of android 10 with just a few of the signature? Motorola gestures, on top of it twist the phone quickly to open the camera.
The other thing you can do is double chop to start the LED flash and again to stop it, and you have a couple more. We can turn these on and off easily, but honestly they work well, and I like them, so I wouldn't turn them off now. I also love the peak notification feature, not vacations appear as the icons on the lock screen, and you can quickly tab them to reveal. What's that message, you just got and reply straight from the lock screen next up. Let's talk cameras.
Motorola is not a name associated with the very best camera in a phone, but the edge plus proved to be surprisingly good. Here's what you get in terms of cameras. First, you have the main 108 megapixel camera with optical image, stabilization, an 8 megapixel three times, zoom telephoto camera also with oh, is a 16 megapixel, ultra-wide camera and then a fourth camera that measures depth, and then there is a 25 megapixel front camera for selfies in the form of the sponge Hall design. Here one thing missing on this list is a periscope telephoto camera. So if you really want that long, zoom range, this phone might not be your best choice, but for all else it performs very well.
Images come out with a good amount of detail. Colors appear realistic and not overblown, and you also have night mode for those super dark shots on the video side of the fence. You have quite a few options. You can pick between 720p 1080p, 4k and even 6k video resolution. The 6k recordings happen at 30 frames per second and look particularly crispy, but you cannot zoom while shooting in that resolution.
So most people would be best off recording video in 4k, where you can use all the cameras and get decent stabilization and still gets very crispy high resolution footage, and with that insane, 256 gigabytes of on-board storage, you have to really shoot long hours of video to run out of memory. Ladies and gentlemen, we have saved the best part of this review blast and the best part about the Motorola edge+ is without a doubt that massive 5,000 William hour battery life on the Motorola h plus, is insane on most days the phone last year as much as two days of the charger. Having this kind of battery life takes a lot of the anxiety of using your phone and is such a relief on our web browsing battery test. For example, the Motorola edge+ scored an impressive 11 hours and 49 minutes the most of any phone with a refresh rate higher than 60 Hertz, and only charging side of things. The H+ comes with a simple power: adapter that delivers up to 18 watts of power.
Well, it does say Turbo Power, there is nothing turbo about it is it takes nearly three hours to get a full charge, but the H+ also supports wireless charging. It speeds of up to 50 watts and even reverse wireless charging. We can place another device with wireless charging on the back of the Motorola h plus, and it will top it up wirelessly. Last but not least, we should also mention that the Motorola edge plus has loudspeakers that produce impressively loud and booming sound one of the speaker's is located in the in co speaker on the top of the phone and the other one fires from the bottom of the device, and together they provide powerful sound with a specially crisp and loud eyes. In fact, this is one of the loudest and best sounding speaker setups on the phone we have heard recently so once again, good job Motorola.
So it's time to draw the proverbial line in the sand and hear our thoughts about the Motorola edge plus, who simply built its excellent. It's an absolute joy to use it's a fast phone. The battery life is insane. The camera performance is perfect. It's a reminder of the great legacy of motor drive phones from the past and if you felt that Motorola has lost its mojo with motor mods in the past, and if you don't mind, the curved display the edge plus has got everything to remind you of the glory days of Motorola.
It's the surprise of the year for us, quite frankly, a phone we didn't quite expect and that turned out to be great. Furthermore, it gets our big thumbs up and this wraps up our review of the motor of and plus thumbs up. If you enjoy watching this video subscribe for more from us, my name is Vic.
