What's going on guys, my name is Wade with tech daily and in this video we're going to be unboxing the brand-new LG style 6 now I know this is a highly anticipated phone for 2020. The LG style 5 was pretty popular last year and the silo 4 was really, really popular the year before that, so I'm sure, a lot of you guys are curious about this. New phone I'm definitely excited about it too. So I won't waste any more time. Let's go ahead and unbox this thing and see what the new style of 6 has to offer. So right off.
The bat you'll see that at least for now this device is available through Boost Mobile. Their retail price is to $19.99 for this phone, but right now it's $40 off at $1709.99. Actually, if you're watching this video before Memorial Day, you can get an additional 20% off that price. Let's make this phone 144 bucks, that's what I paid, which actually is a pretty good deal all things considered and if you aren't on Boost Mobile or don't want to use the network, don't worry! This device will likely be sold through other carriers in the coming weeks and probably offered unlocked as well sometime soon inside the Boost Mobile package. We really only get a couple of things, go ahead and pick out.
Everything and I'll set the phone aside for just a second, so we can go over all the accessories and things, but inside the box you get a little packet of instructions and information, as well as a sim ejector tool. You also get an LG branded USB fast charger and a USB, a 2 USB cable for charging this phone and that's pretty much it at least with the Boost Mobile packaging. There are no earbuds no case. Nothing else included, will peel off the plastic here from the phone on the front and back no screen protector or anything like that. Unfortunately, so keep that in mind.
But here is the new LG style 6, now right off the bat. The first thing I noticed about this phone is it is a chunky device. It's big! It's thick, it's pretty heavy and I, wasn't sure how I felt about all that at first, but after playing around with it for a bit now, I actually really like to set up the style 6 is a fairly large 6.8 inch phone and in the hand you feel every bit of that size. What's also interesting is that LG really didn't try to hide the thickness of this phone either, unlike a lot of other devices with tapered or sloped edges, curved sides or other design cues to make it feel slimmer. This device is sort of shaped like an Ice Cream Sandwich, the edges are squared off and very prominent the front and back panels are totally flat and all in all, this is a phone that I think feels pretty different from a lot of other devices on the market right now in regard to the materials, this is still a budget / mid-range phone but I.
Think overall, this device looks and feels pretty nice. The rear panel is plastic, it's just sort of made to mimic glass, and you get this super shiny, metallic rainbow effect. Honestly, this is a color combination and finish that I'm, a huge fan of its subtle enough for the phone isn't like an obnoxious bright rainbow, but you can certainly see the color shifting affect the sides and edges of the phone are a polished, chrome finish and, like I, said, the fact that they're, a thick squared off design gives you a lot to hold on to overall I think for the price. This is definitely a phone that looks and feels more premium than it actually is, and so far I have no complaints with the build quality. Taking a look around at everything else on the right side, you've got your power button.
The left side actually has a ton of stuff, including the volume buttons and a dedicated Google Assistant button, which is kind of interesting and below. That is where you'll find a sim and SD card tray towards the bottom and underneath you've got a headphone jack, USB-C charging ports, one of two speakers and, of course the stylus, which I will talk about a little later, since its kind of the whole point of the phone around back you'll see a new triple lens camera setup, which once again I will talk about shortly and below that there's a dedicated fingerprint reader. Now, even though this is probably a little dated by 2020 standards now with most companies, putting a fingerprint reader under the display, I actually do prefer the rear mounted physical sensor, and on this phone in particular, it's really quick and responsive. It seems pretty accurate through the handful of times, I've used it so far, and it's placed in a pretty good spot, even with this phone being a little bigger. All in all, this is I think a good choice from LG now, like I, said already, the style of six is a pretty large 6.8 inch phone and I think one of the reasons this phone feels a little bigger it's just because the display is surrounded by slightly larger bezels all around. That's, probably the thing that stands out the most to me about the style six when compared to most other 20/20 smartphones.
You've just got a lot of black borders around the sides and especially at the top and bottom there's a teardrop shaped notch across the top for the front camera as well and, like I, said if I had to be nitpick about this phone already I just wish LG did a little better job stretching that screen a bit further to the edges of the phone. The display itself is a 24 60 by 1080 IPS LCD panel, the PAX in about 395 pixels per inch and honestly for an LCD. What I see here isn't bad at all: it's not necessarily as bright or as colorful, as maybe an AMOLED panel from Samsung's a series line, for example, but I think it still looks good, especially for it being so large I think the resolution and overall clarity is pretty solid, there's no issue with viewing angles either and all in all you have to keep in mind the current price of this thing at around $200 and even less. This is one of the biggest phones you can get, and the big sized display offers a pretty solid viewing experience for that price when it comes to listening to your content, like I touched on earlier, this phone does have a headphone jack, which is nice on its own, but it also has dual stereo speakers with one down at the bottom, and an additional one in the earpiece I was sort of surprised to see that I actually don't know any other $200 device that offers stereo speakers, and you guys know this is a feature. I really appreciate the out loud listening experience is a pleasant surprise with the style 6 and here's just a sample.
So you can get an idea, so now, let's go ahead and talk about that stylus since its kind of the whole point of this phone, the built-in stylus is located down below next to the speaker and this time around, you got that spring-loaded removal assistance, which is nice. It makes it feel a little more premium and I think it's easier to get in and out that way as well. This stylus itself, though, hasn't changed much besides bad. The top obviously has that little click spring-loaded mechanism, but the rest of it is still just a simple metal pointer with a rubber tip. It's not a smart stylus, it's not connected via Bluetooth or anything like that, and it doesn't offer any features on its own.
It's very much just a point and draw tool and I would say it has maybe four or five main uses. First off it can be used just as a navigation tool for the phone you can tap and swipe with a stylus. Just like you would, with your finger and I know some folks actually do use the phone in this way, so you're free to do that. If you'd, like, obviously, the stylus is also a writing tool for notes, you can jot down a thought or a task directly from the lock screen, or you can utilize the side, menu drop down selection to open up the memo app and write, something down anything you write will be automatically saved, and you can obviously reference it later on when you need to, and I think almost everyone who utilized a style phone before or maybe a note device is pretty familiar with all this. There are a couple others stylus related tools in the side menu, including a gift capture which is sort of like a short screen recorder tool for capturing a video on screen, there's draw chat and swift text as well and all in all, while these apps and tools aren't as robust or comprehensive, as maybe Samsung's Note series I.
Think there's enough here to make use of the stylus at least one thing to consider, though, is that, when writing and drawing with the stylus there's a bit of a lag from moving to actually registering the line, the slower you write, less severe. The lag is, but, as you write more and more quickly, you can really see how behind the line is compared to where the tip of the stylus is for LG's style phones. This is sort of expected, but if you're coming from a note device or maybe an iPad, this might be lower quality than what you're you ? inside the stylistics I think packs some decent specs. All things considered, first off the phone offers of 4000 million capacity battery, which I think is ok, given the size of the phone, but I was maybe expecting a little more I. Obviously don't have any insight yet into battery usage and longevity, but I'll certainly put that to the test in the coming days to see what kind of battery life I can get out of this thing powering this phone is the MediaTek hello p35 processor, paired with the power v KG e 8e, 320, GPU, 3, gigabytes of RAM and 64 gigabytes of built-in storage, though you can throw in an SD card for a little more.
Like I mentioned now, we are getting a bit better specs than last year's style 5, which is nice, but for all intents and purposes, I'd argue that these are still very budget specs, though especially nowadays. The baseline for budget internals is quite a bit higher than it used to be beyond the specs themselves. So this phone does run Android 10, but obviously it's heavily skinned with LG's custom user interface. Now this is gonna, be a love it or hate, it's sort of a thing. It's far from stock Android and honestly mimics iOS, more than anything else, with the app icons and default home screen setup.
It's not terrible, but I know it's not for everyone. If you're already into lg devices, you'll feel right at home and I do think. Overall, this one offers a pretty quick feel at least out of the box, but Android purists likely won't enjoy the heavily modified UI, which is understandable, I'm interested to put this phone to the test these next couple of days and see how hard I can push it with the apps and the games. I'm hopeful that it'll be able to keep up with what I need it to do, and I'm also curious about LG's, Android 10 setup here as well. So far like I said it does feel pretty smooth, but I'll wait to form any conclusions before I really start using it.
Probably one of the biggest changes to this phone over the style 5 has to do with the camera setup. Around back. You now have three lenses to choose from a 13 megapixel main lens, a 5 megapixel ultra-wide lens and a 5 megapixel depth. Sensing camera for help with portrait shots I think that's a pretty decent lens setup. It's going to offer just about everything you need to take decent pictures and videos.
You've got Richard mode, like I said: there's LG's, AI, cam built-in, along with Google Lens, the wide-angle, is obviously going to be useful too. In certain instances there are also some added LG specific things thrown in like flash jump, cut, a dedicated, YouTube live option and a couple other little things. There's HDR and additional video stabilization as well, which is nice to see, but you don't get any 4k video recording it's limited to 1080p at 30fps, so we're not really pushing any limits here with the front selfie camera we've also got a nice upgrade there as well. It's now a 13 megapixel shooter, which is a big improvement and just taking a couple sample shots. I was really impressed with the result.
Live focus, looks pretty solid, there's a nice background and foreground separation with plenty of detail. There is an enhanced Beauty mode, which is fine, I, guess and even the standard selfies. Look surprisingly good. It isn't that often that I'm pleasantly surprised by the selfie camera on a budget Android device, but there's definitely some potential here with this phone in just a couple last things to mention here, the style 6 does not have wireless charging and there's also no IP or water-resistant rating either. So keep that in mind.
If you want it either those features they aren't here this time around. So there you go. That's the new LG style 6. If you couldn't tell I'm really excited to try this phone out over the next couple of days and put it to the test, I know how popular some other style devices have been over the last couple of years, and I'm really interested to see how well this one does in the coming months. I'm also going to compare it to a bunch of other devices.
Of course, ? like the style 5 Motorolas, style phone Samsung's, a series devices and more, so we stick around to see those videos when they come out and let me know what devices you want me to compare this phone to. But hopefully you guys enjoyed this quick, unboxing and first impressions, video.
