LG G8X review: $700 dual-screen phone takes aim at foldable phones

If you're curious about the latest foldable phone trend, but you're not ready to commit LG has a new phone that might pique your interest. It's called the g8x thin queue and like the Galaxy fold and Huawei Mate X, it can double its screen, size and open up like a book, but instead of having a flexible screen, the g8x is a regular six point, four inch phone that attaches to a second screen using a special case. The screen freely rotates, so you can bend it at whatever angle you like with the second screen, there's more real estate to multitask between apps, which I found especially useful when said, I was looking up where to eat and Yelp, and also finding my way to a specific restaurant in Google Maps. This screen also comes in handy when I want to prop up the phone in different ways, so I can watch movies or use it as a tripod to take photos when closed I can also still view the time and notifications on the cover. Keep in mind, though, that when the g8x is in its case, it's really thick, it kind of reminds me of putting on a super rugged Letterbox phone case on it and fitting it comfortably in my jean pocket was out of the question. The front cover also collects a lot of fingerprints and I found myself cleaning.

It often I also think it's an oversight that I can't charge the phone when it's inside this case other than the dual screen, though the GO is just like any other premium phone. The handset features two rear cameras that take clear and vibrant photos with good contrast, and it has its own low light mode on the front is a 32 megapixel camera for ultra-clear selfies. The g8x has an in screen fingerprint reader, expandable memory, wireless charging and a headphone jack, which is rare among top-tier phones. The phone also has a 4 ampere hour battery when I played a video continuously on airplane mode. The battery only drained to 30% after more than 12 hours, I haven't begun battery testing, with both displays activated though, and I imagine battery life to be much shorter, so stay tuned for more info.

All-In-All I ended up liking, the g8x a lot more than I thought I would at first I thought. The dual screen would be gimmicky, but it's surprisingly useful. The best part about this phone, though, is its price at $702780. That cost alone is pretty much on par, if not a tad cheaper than most high-end phones. These days, but LG and carriers like AT&T, intend to sell the whole thing second screen and all at that price range.

That's a lot cheaper than the thousand dollars you're going to have to pay for the Galaxy fold and others like it. It's true that the g8x doesn't have that super elegant and novel design. Like the galaxy fold, you also won't be able to watch videos on that. Seamless single tablet screen, but the g8x is a durable middle man solution. If you're, unsure about the whole foldable screen form factor- and you don't want to hand over a ton of cash for it, even on its own $700- is a good price to pay for the g8x, but throw in a second screen and the same price, and you've got a pretty compelling reason to check it out.
