iPhone SE 2020 Review - 2 Months Later!

Today's video is brought to you by I'm: stick the intelligent magnetic phone holder, hey it's Chris, and today, I'm going to be revisiting this guy, the 20/20 iPhone S II. Now this is the black 256 gig versions. So if you missed the first review, go check it out, I'll link it down below because. It was way more popular than I expected it to even be so there's a lot of interest in this phone, which is why I want to revisit it in case you're. Actually thinking about buying it, a few things have changed since I originally did this review. First, the iPhone 12 super cycle is coming up.

It's right around the corner, more or less, and you might be wondering well, should I hold out. Do I really need a flagship phone or can I get by with a budget I phone also, we've had some rumors popping up lately talking about a newer, larger iPhone SE that could be coming sometime this year? So that's something you want to take into consideration as well, but mostly I've just had some extra time to spend with this little guy and I have some extra thoughts to add to that initial review. Oh, and I should add. You guys asked me some questions on Twitter for this video, and I'll add those in at the end as well. Well, first, let's talk about this thing's size.

Okay, it's one of the best features. I! Think a lot of people are just looking for a smaller iPhone, my favorite iPhone 11 right now is the iPhone 11 Pro, that's the smaller iPhone 11 I got the 12 point 9-inch iPad Pro on my desk, because I need a bigger screen when I park in my desk, but when I'm out, and I'm mobile I do prefer a smaller form factor. I just flew out of my hands, and I'm glad that I had this case on here. So if you're wondering apples, leather case works really well, I really don't think you need to fall into this. Stereotypical thing like this is a great sized phone for whoever you are so the size doesn't bother me in the slightest, but something that I don't like as much is this older phone design.

This is the same phone design as the iPhone 8, and it's fine, and it's very usable. The bezels are enormous in 2020, it's kind of weird to even be saying that or thinking that about a phone, but here they are at least they're black, though because they do kind of made. Out of you know your notice, once your mind is engaged with the screen: you're not sitting there, thinking that bezel is enormous or that chin is like a Jay Leno. So really you just don't get this thing for the looks you get this thing either because you really want that smaller form factor or you really want to save some money to just state the obvious. It doesn't look as good as the all screen, mostly all screens up for the notch design of the newer iPhones.

But again you get back to the sides. This thing is more lightweight that doesn't matter to some people. It's nice and light, and it's more pocketable I guess you could say than other recent models I've been thinking about the water resistance, because that's one thing about this particular model: that's nice! It happens to be very water resistant. One of the reasons is because there's no headphone jack, a lot of people are gonna, be crying about that. Still they love their headphone jacks I, just don't care.

I haven't noticed that I haven't cared because I'm an air pods kind of a dude I like the wireless world that we're moving towards and really have been in for a while I mean there's an adapter. It works. It's not perfect, but you're getting a budget phone, so I just don't know what there really is to complain about over these last several weeks, I've really been thinking about the display. Here. Furthermore, it's a good display.

The quality is nice I, don't think you're. Really at this price point, going to have any room to be like oh I hate how things look on this screen with one caveat, and that is if you're outside, and it's a bright day, then you may have to shade the screen a little to actually see what's on there, and that is not a problem on the latest iPhones the iPhone 11 lineup. It's not a dealbreaker, it's not a deal killer. If you get a tweet or a notification, it may be kind of annoying to see that or more. For me, it's more about like taking pictures and being able to see what I took a picture of you know really easily.

On a bright day. The a13 Bionic chip inside has been amazing. It's fast it's very fast. It is basically keeping up with your iPhone 11s. So yeah you have this older design, but the inside is nice and speedy I, say basically keeping up with the iPhone Elevens, because when you take a picture, and it's processing that photo that can happen a bit slower, and I'd say noticeably slower on the iPhone 11, but to be very honest, apps still, load nice and fast I have no complaints there and, if I'm playing a pretty powerful game that requires a lot of processing horsepower.

It's basically flawless there are no complaints in the performance Department other than in the camera area. For me, and even then, if you didn't have the iPhone 11 here and the iPhone SE here and do like a race to see, I mean the average person, that's spending 400 bucks for a phone here, they're just not gonna care now, even if it takes a split second longer for certain images to process versus the 11. The overall camera performance is really solid. Now this sensor hasn't changed much since the iPhone 8, but that doesn't really matter because apples applying all kinds of machine learning to your images and the processing to make things look good. Now, in my testing, I could tell a difference between iPhone 11 photos and iPhone.

Se. Photos down, based mostly on the color I, feel like the color, does actually pop more on the iPhone 11 Pro than it does on the iPhone SE, but not by a lot. I, really, don't think your average person is number one going to be able to even tell and number two care if you're a photographer, that's different, but everybody isn't a photographer. They just want to take a picture of their food or for social media or for their family and for that kind of stuff it's gonna work, so good I mean photos on the iPhone.11 technically are gonna, have better clarity, yeah, but photos on the iPhone SE I would characterize as nice and bright like pleasantly bright. I will say that one area that struggles a little more versus the iPhone 11 is just portrait mode photos if you're trying to take a portrait shot because you're just using this single lens, because it relies more on the computational stuff versus the hardware to capture the depth and everything sometimes you're going to get edges.

There aren't as good as on the 11th, but honestly portrait mode on photos is still isn't going to replace a DSLR. You know anytime soon, but again, just for most people most of the time is it gonna, be great. Yeah, one knock against this phone. This nice little awesome phone is the battery life. It's the same battery as the iPhone 8 and, to be honest, I haven't been overly impressed with the battery life on this thing, but at the same time it's totally and completely livable.

It's not going to ruin my life or ruin my day, but it's not as phenomenal as somebody who's coming from daily using the iPhone, 11 I. Think. One interesting scenario with this particular phone is that you might be someone who's, not ready to get a flagship phone this year or right now, this exact moment, but you do want an iPhone. That's really great has a great camera, and it's going to get you by for like a year or two, and then you're going to be ready to get a flagship. This thing is for you now I said before, and I'm just going to say it again.

If I had to do everything that I do for my business with this iPhone SE could I do it and I said before? Yes, unquestionably, I could, and I'm gonna stick by that, even after this much usage, I definitely think I could use this camera use this screen to create content, post content and run my business. The business applications that I need with this phone. There's, no doubt in my mind. So hopefully, if you were on the fence, and you're like yeah, people are saying it's great its budget, but can I live with it? I hope this extra clarifying review can just help. The uses are basically endless, and the price is right, so check out I'm stick using the link down in the description. All right, I asked you guys on Twitter what questions you had about the iPhone SE for this video.

Let me answer a couple of your questions. Number one. Somebody said: how is the screen quality compared to the iPhone 11? Are they both the same or is the iPhone 11 better? The iPhone 11 has a better screen. Unquestionably, no doubt the colors gonna pop more, it's definitely brighter. The blacks are blacker.

It's just better, yes and not to mention there's just more screen on the iPhone 11, and it doesn't have the chin and the forehead. It does have a notch right, but there's more of the better screen on the iPhone 11 it's true, but does that degrade from your iPhone experience, not by as much as you would think somebody said what about the experience comparison between this and the iPhone 8? Is it really faster? Well, yes, it is really faster when things move from one generation to the next, then maybe you're gonna notice, some slight differences, but when you move multiple generations, you're going to notice the differences in a much bigger way and I would say that's definitely the case from the 8th to this new SE. Now here's a fascinating question to end this video on is the new iPhone SE a good option for someone coming from the iPhone 10. Well, that is a good question, because the iPhone 10 or X, as some people are just gonna, call it. That was the one that gave us the current newer, all scream all screen design language.

Now it's not so much is it usable because of course it's usable, but there are things that I think would feel like downgrades coming from something with the 10 not having faced ID I like face ID I, know some people really like the button and the haptic feedback, and that's nice, but I, don't like it better than face ID and just the way that the menus work you know having to swipe a different direction to access. You know your camera shortcut and stuff you're going to have to rewire your brain a little and rethink things and I wouldn't really say that one is better than the other, but it's going to be an adjustment and I do think. Ultimately, just emotionally, it would feel like a downgrade coming from the iPhone 10. But if you access the other side of your brain, the one that thinks more logically, then it really isn't a downgrade per se, because this is the core iPhone experience which is perfect at the end of the day. I think, ultimately, what it comes down to is, there are nice to haves and there are must-haves and all the must-haves are here on this iPhone SE.

But does this phone have everything that I wish that it had? No, it doesn't have a lot of the nice to haves the extra camera lenses, for instance, those are nice to have they're, not necessities. You can get through life with this camera and be very happy with the results all right. So that's it.
