iPhone 12 Vs iPhone 8 Plus CAMERA TEST! (Photo / Video Comparison)

Welcome back everyone time to do another camera comparison between two phones that are very interesting to one another: the iPhone 12, which just came out that 829 phone versus the iPhone 8 plus, which is also a perfect priced phone right now you can pick them up for like around 300, probably even cheaper than that in a lot of places. Now, both of them both have dual camera setups on the back. All of them are 12 megapixels, sensors and the iPhone 12 has a 12 megapixel wide with a 12 megapixel ultrawide sensor, the iPhone 8 plus has a 12 megapixel wide and then a 12 megapixel telephoto lens, so a little of a different sensor on both. If you combine both that's kind of like the 12 pro camera now, the way this camera test works is basically, I just grab a bunch of my phones. I take a bunch of photos and videos outside in the same lighting conditions and everything like that, and I pretty much just compare the end result of the photos. I let the photos' autofocus and everything like that, so pretty much how this works is I'll, go ahead and show you the photos first, and I took you guys, opinion and a lot of you guys wanted to see dark photos, so photos and darker conditions, and I went ahead and did that to not only the videos but some photos as well.

Now, in this first photo and basically all the iPhone 8 plus photos and videos will be on the left. The iPhone 12 photos and videos will be on the right and this first photo. You can already see some sort of differences. You can see that if I just go ahead and zoom into this little middle section, which I've been doing the past couple of photos, you can see that yet again, there's a little of a difference. The iPhone 8 plus.

First, it doesn't look bad, but the same problem here versus like the iPhone 10, it kind of overexposed some portions of the photos and, like I said before, with the iPhone 10 it. It isn't a good thing. In my opinion, it doesn't look ugly, but when you look at the iPhone 12, it really did a better job at leveling out all the photos, and I think it looks perfect in terms of the coloring of the photos. That's something that's really, really important, and I think, even if you zoom into like this specific portion up here, I would definitely say the iPhone 12 did a perfect job at keeping that in focus. The iPhone 8 plus was still okay for the most part, but I'll definitely say for sure this photo.

The iPhone 12 definitely won, and this photo was a little different on both I kind of messed up a little. I don't know why I kept focusing or not focusing on there, but what I want to hit on is the colors, let alone the focusing and all that stuff, just look how much the colors on the iPhone 12 really pop out more, and they look way more vibrant. The iPhone 8 plus photo looks okay, but it looks very dull when you look at the iPhone 12 photo. It looks much better in my opinion, and it's not only in the fact because it's focused in but like I said I let the photos' autofocus so forget that for a second, maybe it autofocuses at the wrong time, but the coloring is one of the better aspects and the biggest differentiating factor. If I go and look into this aspect, I mean not only is it more blurred out on the iPhone 12, which looks good, but the coloring looks so much better on the leaves, even though they're, not even in focus, they look so much better in my opinion, so definitely between both.

I don't think one is way better or worse than the other one, but I think the iPhone 12 definitely looks better here. In my opinion, now this next photo, which you may have been able to see, may look a little different, and you might be like wait. Why is this one more zoomed in the other one? Basically, I wanted to test the telephoto lenses between both so, like I said before, the iPhone 12 doesn't have a telephoto lens. The iPhone 8 plus does- and this demonstrates the zooming in capability from both phones, so I zoomed into the photo from the same distance on both cameras, zoomed in as much as I could, and this is pretty much the output, so forgetting the quality for a second look, how much more you're able to zoom into a photo on the iPhone 8 plus than on the iPhone 12. Now, obviously, we have that ultra-right sensor, which I'll get into in a second on the 12, but that's a pretty big difference when you're looking at both phones, it's perfect to have the ability of doing both a telephoto and ultra-wide, but at least having that telephoto lens.

If you're somebody who likes zooming into a bunch of photos, you have that capability on the iPhone 8 plus with the iPhone 12. You have that ultrawide sensor, but you know maybe you'll like that more than this, but this is basically the zooming in capability of both. But when you go ahead- and I guess not, the next photo is the ultrawide. I have the ultrawide sensor test here somewhere, but this is just another. I guess photo that I took of a chair and there's not really like a crazy difference.

Furthermore, I would say I actually, surprisingly kind of like the iPhone 8 plus photo looks a little darker. Some people may prefer the iPhone 12 photo because you are able to see much more of this specific aspect, and even if you look right here, you can see that this green section right here looks a little too dark on the iPhone 8 plus I like the sharpening factor or the darker factor of this little portion up here. But this area looks a little better on the iPhone 12 for sure, and if you look at the leaves at the bottom again looks a little darker, and it looks a little more in focus, meaning the both may not be as good on the iPhone 8 plus versus the iPhone 12. So when it comes down to this photo, I actually kind of say that the iPhone 12 probably wins overall, but the iPhone 8 plus photo really isn't that bad. And when you look at it like this, I don't really think you're going to notice that big of a difference some people may prefer the plus some people may prefer the iPhone 12, but that's kind of how I would see it in this case now I took this photo indoors, so I basically just went into the same exact lighting conditions and honestly, what I can tell you is that I think both phones did all right, but when you start zooming in that's, when you start seeing a couple of the major differences so on the iPhone 12, as you can see, it doesn't look that great in my or the iPhone 8 plus.

It doesn't look that great once zoomed in it kind of looked better when you zoomed out, but the iPhone 12 actually looks really sharp and looks really, really good. In my opinion, the coloring, as you can see, as you can see it, looks much sharper on the iPhone 12 as well. The cement in the middle looks better. I think the cement on the iPhone 8 plus looks good for the most part, but it's definitely not as good as something as the iPhone 12. That's no knock to the iPhone 8 plus, like I stated, I think it's a pretty good camera, but the iPhone 12.

Definitely one in this specific case too, and following the trend of just the overhaul camera quality inside. This is another focus point of basically how both phones compare and indoor lighting, not really the best lighting, and you can see that in some people, maybe they like the plus, but this really warmed out the colors, the iPhone 12 on the iPhone. You know this specific photo looks a lot brighter, and it looks a lot more yellow, and that is something that I actually really do like when photos like this are like yellow and just overall. I like when the colors are more accurate. The iPhone 8 plus photo doesn't look as accurate as it was in real life.

I think in this case the iPhone 12 somewhere in the middle of this was but more so probably towards the iPhone 12. This one looks a lot better in my opinion, when you go ahead and zoom into like this specific portion right here, I think the iPhone 12 did a better job at kind of leveling out the photo again and focusing on the right parts. The f50 plus, on the other hand, not really a fan of this specific photo. Now this next one, it might look like a weird photo like. Why would you take this one, but I took a night mode photos on both, so if both phones supported night mode, I used it automatically and the iPhone 8 plus does not have any night mode capability and look at how much better the iPhone 12 photo looks now forget for two seconds about the quality and everything like that and like the blurry, ass and the blurriness and all that stuff.

Let's just focus on the coloring, and if I go and zoom into this specific portion right here, and I zoom into this specific portion, I mean just compare this like little a to this little a look at how much of a bigger difference there is between them with the iPhone 12. That's definitely still in focus it's still, not even as pixelated as the iPhone 8 plus. If I looked at this, I would not be able to probably you know, take out that a and see if there's an inside of it, the iPhone 12 was able to do that right here. Even if you look into like any other portion on these things, I mean, even here, you can see that for sure the iPhone 8 plus didn't do as well of a job as the iPhone 12, and that has a lot to do with that built-in feature that night mode capability or night side or whatever it's called that the iPhone 8 plus does not natively have- and I did the exact same thing on this photo as you can see. The iPhone 12 yet again was able to not overexpose but rightfully expose how that photo would look post-processing so without even having to go and like open up the photos, app and modify all the brightness and stuff it was able to automatically do it, and one thing I like to look at is this little aspect right here.

If you look at this photo of the Apple logo in this Apple logo, definitely the iPhone 12 did much better. Now. This is the feature where you have to click it, and it'll eventually take the photo. So it's not instantaneous, but it's still very, very good. In my opinion.

Now this is another photo that I took outdoors. I feel like with these outdoor photos. You don't really get to see too many differences. They look almost exactly the same. I didn't really notice too many differences.

I think with the iPhone 12, it's probably the winner, but the iPhone 8 plus these outdoor photos are perfect. In my opinion. Now this is what I was going to talk about with that ultrawide sensor earlier. So now these are both phones, zoomed out so, like I said earlier, the iPhone 12 does not have that telephoto lens, but it does have that ultrawide sensor and some people may actually prefer this over the telephoto lens on the iPhone 8, plus the iPhone 8 plus kind of still focused on a lot. The iPhone 12 was able to zoom out a bunch in this photo which I'm really happy about.

So when you look at a photo like this, and you're zooming out, you have to ask yourself: do you zoom out more photos? Do you like this type of effect, or do you like the zoom end effect that the iPhone 8 plus telephoto lens brings? You guys can kind of figure out which one you prefer? In my opinion, I kind of like the ultrawide sensor more, but I like having the ability to do both. That's why I use an iPhone 12 Pro, so quality wise, they're, probably going to be different. The 12 is probably going to be better, but for sure, at the end of the day, the ultrawide sensor is something I really do like on the iPhone 12. Now this is a portrait mode photo on both. I know it doesn't look like it on the iPhone 8 plus, but the plus does not support portrait mode on animals.

Unfortunately, so what I did was, I just took these specific photos and I just kind of went on and, as you can see, the iPhone, 12 and definitely one here for some reason, the plus wasn't able to take that much more photo, but the iPhone 10 was so. I don't really understand that at all, but as you can see, the blurred out effect and everything would have probably been about the same, but I still would have assumed the quality would still be better on the iPhone 8 on the iPhone 12. Now I did do a video comparison indoors between these two that I was going to show earlier, but I forgot to- and this was basically what those videos entailed, and it's pretty much just two basic photos. You know one and doors of the iPhone 10 or box, and I think the iPhone 12 did a better job for sure. But again, there's not really like a crazy, big difference.

I think the iPhone 8 plus did a pretty good job here too. So it really just depends on what you kind of prefer. You do get overall, better capability on the iPhone 12, not only in the back camera, but also in the front camera. There's not really a crazy humongous difference between both, but I would definitely say the iPhone 12, probably one in this specific video comparison, but I have a bigger video I'll show it towards the end, and an audio comparison. Now, this last photo that I want to show is pretty much one of just this basic thing that I took before.

I let them just kind of focus in and they kind of focused on the same spot, actually, which is interesting, but even then I think the iPhone 12 photo looks a little crisper in a way. If you go and zoom out to this little portion down here at the very bottom, I think the iPhone 12 did a better job again at keeping this portion in focus. The iPhone 8 plus did a good job too, and I actually I'm pretty surprised about how well the iPhone 8 plus did in this specific photo. But even then I would probably still give that edge to the iPhone 12. But this really wasn't as crazy of a big comparison as I thought it was going to be, but I did do a video between these two, and I'll go and show you guys that now- and this is a pretty big difference when it comes down to the video and audio capability.

I think so. Here's that video, so now we're looking at the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 8 plus and just look at the difference in this video quality. The iPhone 8 plus definitely looks far darker than the iPhone 12. Even with this light on now kind of looking at this way, you can see the iPhone 12 looks far better. Now we do have a telephoto lens on the iPhone 8 plus, but we don't on the iPhone 12, but we do have an ultrawide sensor, so you can kind of see how far we can zoom in on both.

This is the same distance. Now zooming out from the same exact distance. You will see that the iPhone 12 does look far better. In my opinion, even with that ultrawide sensor, and I'll definitely tell you when it comes down to both the iPhone 12 is far better I'll, go and use the audio quality from the iPhone 8 plus to see if it sounds good, and I'm sure it'll sound. Okay, now going the iPhone 12 audio quality I'll go and stop walking too, and hopefully there is a difference.

Hopefully the iPhone 12 sounds better, but for sure now that we're back, let me go ahead and basically break down. Should you pick up the iPhone 12 because of the camera or the iPhone 8 plus, and you know, is the iPhone 12 camera really that much better? I will probably tell you that in some cases the iPhone 12 is better than the iPhone 8 plus, I think when it comes down to the indoor photos, I feel like the iPhone 12 will definitely win things like night mode and different things like that, really add a lot more flavor and character to the iPhone 12 camera. It's still not that crazy, though, like I think you can still. You know, mimic a lot of those features. If you just go into the photos, app stock and just like, modify a lot of those things, but even then I think the iPhone 8 plus still doesn't quite compete with the iPhone 12, especially when it comes down to that front.

Camera that 4k 60 capability on the iPhone 12 is really cool. But on top of that, the video quality, as you guys saw, was definitely a pretty big deal. I think the iPhone 12 really beat the iPhone 8, plus there too. So that's kind of one way to look at it. The other way to look at it is that I still think the iPhone 8 plus is a pretty good camera setup too.

That phone came on in 2017. It's not going to be the best camera ever, but you still have portrait mode, not on animals, but you still have portrait mode. You can still do 4k at 60, and you still have a lot of capability for sure, and you have that telephoto lens, which is awesome. So if you're somebody who prefers that, then you have that capability. In my opinion, I would still rather have the iPhone 12 camera.

I would so rather have the 12 pro camera or iPhone 11 Pro camera over the over both of these things, but I still think for sure the iPhone 8 plus is good enough. For the most part, it's definitely not beating the iPhone 12, but it's really not that far behind either. If you're somebody who just takes casual photos and videos and if you know how to use the photos app, and you can increase the brightness and contrast and all that stuff and black points, then you're probably going to be good for the most part. I think so that really pretty much covers it up for the most part, if you guys have any other questions or anything.
