iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone 8 Plus: Worth the Upgrade (Review)

Hey guys, technically with the video for you guys in today's video we're going to be doing a side-by-side comparison head-on, head with a new iPhone 12 Pro that was recently released with the iPhone 8 plus. As you can see, these are two phenomenal devices and I have the gold edition today. We're going to be reviewing it, but this pretty much applies to any color and such let's talk a little about this phone. You know to really talk about the hardware, the software and should you upgrade if you have iPhone 8, plus and looking to go to an iPhone 12 Pro so stay tuned. While we discuss all of that, and before we get go ahead and get started, if you guys are new to our channel, we do a lot of techs, news reviews and giveaways, giving you the raw input of about technology so make sure you hit that subscribe button. Also, if you guys, are looking for a cheap iPhone, make sure you guys check out the link that will be, including in the description section to some of the discounted phones that you can find on Amazon and other sites.

So let's talk about these two phone, as you know, we recently did the unboxing video for this gold iPhone 12 Pro make sure you guys check that out. If you guys haven't checked it out, where we detailed everything that you need to know that about the new iPhone 12 Pro. So one thing we're going to really talk about in this video is actually a head-on head discussion about speed the camera just the overall performance and such and the first thing we'll notice about these phones. These are the gold edition of it. So this isn't quite of a comparison because, as you know, the iPhone 12 Pro actually has a max version which is equivalent to the plus version in its previous generation.

So if you really were to compare side by side, you know the iPhone 12 Pro would pretty much compare with the regular iPhone 8, not the plus version of it, but because this is a video between these two iPhones we're going to compare these iPhones the way we have it. Let's talk about the color itself, so the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 8 plus the flag, right phones from apple. They come in generally the same color, so you have your gold, your space gray and your silver edition and then with the iPhone 12 Pro you have this new color called pacific blue for the very first time on apple color choices. So that's one thing: you notice! Let's talk about the external body itself, as you see here right off the bat. If we do a comparison side by side, you see the iPhone 8 plus, obviously just bigger just compared to the iPhone 12 Pro.

That's because this isn't the max version, which would pretty much be a better comparison if you're looking to compare the bigger size ones, but even though this is the regular size one, you know in terms of size, they're almost about the same, and we'll talk about the actual screen ratio in a bit, but also the other thing you notice here is the on the iPhone 12 Pro right off the bat. You know very noticeable. You have these three lens triple lens camera sticking right out versus the dual lens on your iPhone 8. Also. The other thing you notice is that on the iPhone 12 Pro you have this lid AR technology sensor.

That really helps with some of this feature that we talked about in another video and then, if we take a look at the actual back here as well, if we look at the Apple logo, apple decided to move the logo to the middle of the back on the iPhone 12 Pro versus leaving it up top on the iPhone 8 plus, also you'll notice. The lettering here on the iPhone 12 Pro is now missing compared to the previous generation, where apple put their iPhone label there. So you might think this is a fake device, but this is a genuine device, not sure why Apple went away with just printing the word apple or the iPhone on it. But that's you know apple's choice. Let's really take a look at the actual edges here.

If we take a look at the top here, you'll notice, right off the top. You know as close-up zoom here is, that looks like the iPhone 12 Pro does have a thicker bezel. It is flat and edgier versus the iPhone 8 plus, which is rounder, slimmer in terms of just the whole width of it. So that's one thing: you'll notice right there. If we take a look at this volume and the silent button side, you notice on the iPhone 12 Pro.

That's where the sim card tray has been moved to where it was on the other side before, and why has apple done that? Well, it's because they needed to make room for the 5g or the MMM wave. That's on the iPhone 12 Pro that is placed right there. So it's like this odd shape. You know kind of sim tray, looking thing, but it's not a button or anything. It is the antenna to enable the 5g which is not possible on the iPhone 8 plus.

So that's the other reason why apple moved and if we take a look at the bottom of the speakers, one thing: you'll notice. You know, of course, there's less of the speaker holes on the bottom. That's because, on the iPhone 8, you have this studio grade speakers, although on the iPhone 8, it's not bad. The iPhone 12 Pro does have a little slight improvement in their speaker overall, but that's with just the hardware itself. So let's do the first initial test of this is actually powering them on we're going to hold the power button, see which one turns on first, and this should kind of give us the indicator, as you saw, the Apple logo popped up on the iPhone 12 Pro before the iPhone 8 plus, but does that mean it will get to the home screen before or not? Let's take a moment and see, as you saw, both phones actually booted up about the same amount of time.

They are upgraded to the iOS 14. So it's not really a software thing as more of a hardware thing. So I don't know you know it seems like with the hardware. Are you really going to get a lot of speed improvement that you'll notice at the user level not really sure, because you just saw the boot uptime that photo of the both of the phones booted up pretty quick, and we're going to talk a little more about that? But before we talk about, let's talk about the display itself, as you see on the iPhone 12 Pro you're going to have this 6.1 super retina Dr display and on the iPhone 8 plus you have a 5.5 retina HD display. So, although on the iPhone 8 plus it's bigger body, it doesn't really give you that much um compared to the iPhone 12.

Of course, the iPhone 8 is huge on your hand compared to the iPhone 12 Pro. So, if you're looking for more real estate in terms of your display, while the iPhone or 12 pro wins that, so that's one thing, you'll notice, just in terms of the display itself and let's talk about the actual release date of this phone. As you know, the iPhone 8 was released back in 2017, where the iPhone 12 Pro was recently released. Uh from apple in October of this year, so you have sort of that- you know gap between it, but has that really made a difference in terms of if you're looking to upgrade the phones? We're gonna really talk about that as well. We'll notice that, of course, with any updates' apple likes to go ahead and improve their camera.

How much has the camera quality improved between the iPhone um, eight plus and the 12 pro? Well there's a couple of things that have changed, as you saw on the back. Of course, you know you have your triple lens versus dual lens and, of course, because of the hardware limitation triple versus you know, you're doing, of course, you're going to get a little more out of uh the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro, if you guys have been following, does have a dopey quality recording feature, so you're able to record pretty much cinematic grade films on it because of the camera that they have made improvements to and the stereo itself. Of course, the iPhone 8 plus doesn't hold back on that as well. It does have this whole grade on 4k you're, still able to record 4k. It might not be dopey quality, but it does definitely record 4k without any issue.

Both of the phones does have what's known as this portrait camera. If you guys don't know what portrait camera, it really enhances your photography on these devices. So if you're, looking for specifically or purely just for photography, you're, not really missing out much in terms of that feature, both of the phones that have that feature, you know slight improvement overall on the 12 pro, but not noticeably different in terms of the actual phones itself. Although on the iPhone 12 Pro, you have four times zoom, compared to twice the zoom on the iPhone 8, plus that we have here. So let's talk about the battery life itself, so how much playback can you get between this battery? So the playback you're going to get is about 17 hours on the iPhone 12 Pro versus 14 hours, video playback on the iPhone 8 plus so three-hour difference.

Has that really made a difference for anyone or would that make a difference for you? I don't know how much video you watch or how much difference that will make, but it doesn't seem, like apple, has really upped the capacity on the 12 pro so battery life wise. You know, no, you will users notice a difference, maybe slightly, maybe not. It depends on your usage. Both of the phones have about similar capacity. You have 2800 on the iPhone 12 Pro compared to 2600 200 my difference um.

Is that going to make a difference? Not quite sure yet you know overall if you're really looking to upgrade because of battery life. Well, you really won't be able to get out of much out of that. Let's talk about the actual technology of these pieces, so one thing you'll notice is the whole button, of course has been removed, starting with the iPhone 10 and above and that's because Apple went away with that. Of course, they brought it back on the iPhone SC 2020 edition the other way on the iPhone 12 Pro you have now this whole concept of face ID. You know you have to set up a face ID to actually unlock the phone compared to the fingerprint reader, which has really done some quite the improvement from apple, which is surprising.

You know they moved away from the fingerprint reader. The face ID definitely works really well, as, as you have seen, you know not nothing to really note there. Besides, that it does what it's meant to do. Let's talk about a little about the storage capacity on these devices, so the iPhone 8 plus comes with your base.64 model capacity, as you see here, but on the iPhone 12 Pro apple finally has doubled that starting in their base model, it's been a while Apple has done that, but it does whop 128 gigs, with your base thousand dollar model versus the iPhone 8 starting at 64 gigs, so they didn't improve in terms of the capacity the iPhone 8 plus does go up, 228 gigs, where on the iPhone 12 Pro, you have 128 gigs, 256 and 512 gigs, which isn't available on the iPhone 8. So if you're a person that likes to fill up a ton of videos and memory and are looking for a phone that holds enough, uh storage like modern day laptop, you might be looking to get with the iPhone 12 Pro.

That's one of the big things you'll notice between that uh of these two devices. Let's talk a little more about just the overall um cellular experience on these phones. As you know, we mentioned in the beginning, because of the 5g antenna, if your carrier has 5g you're able to use 5g but on the 8 plus you're, not able to do that, moving away from just the camera and the hardware is in itself. Let's talk about the technology and the software that both of these phones does have so both of the phones, as you see, are upgraded to iOS 14, so upgrade limitation, not quite there. Yet you know the iPhone 8 plus still has life in it.

Probably you're going to get a couple more updates that we're expecting I at least to iOS 16, if not more, of course, the iPhone 12 Pro just came out. It's going to be around for another five six years easily so, but they both do upgrade to the latest iOS 14 and that's where the kind of the software makes a difference in terms of overall user experience. As you see both of these phones, you know you're able to download pretty much any app because iOS 14 holds up. So you don't have any sort of limitation in terms of, if that's a concern that you have that you're going to be having an issue with compatibility which happens because once a phone starts not updating to the iOS, apps aren't supported anymore, and you're kind of stuck with older generation of the apps and then at a point where app developers don't bring out those updates because of security reasons, they're just not able to support it as we notice there's a slight bit of just improvement and overall happening opening apps and things like that, but not too much that you'll notice here. As you can see, I'm opening up some of the mainstream popular apps that most people have and right off the bat you know both of the phones are going head-to-head against.

Just opening up these apps without really much of an issue here, as you see here, we have these apps open, really, not nothing really that you that will really impact user experience. You know if you're looking to for a device to do sort of browsing and just simple stuff, the iPhone 8 plus still holds up pretty well, you know you're not going to get much out of it. One thing we didn't notice on the iPhone 12 Pro is that it does have enhanced AR augmented reality features which allows you to really if you play video games or if you have apps that does have take advantage of AR it's something to really look into, but the iPhone 8 plus doesn't have that. So that's one thing: you'll notice in terms of gaming. Overall, between these devices, they do a phenomenal job, of course, the graphics a little better on the iPhone 12 Pro on the heavier games, but games that are lighter.

You know, such as, like subway, surfers just smaller games that aren't really a heavy, intensive or graphic intensive games, you're fine with the iPhone 8. Of course, if you're a person that does a lot more gaming or really concern about it, the iPhone um 12 pro does have a 60 60 hertz per second refresh rate, so not really like a monitor grade, but it does hold up a little better in terms of um, just if you're looking to see if it lags or anything like that, so there you have it for the software review um. The software on both phones, of course, still works, no issues. You have some other cool features like AR on the iPhone 12 Pro it's not might be possible on the eight plus nonetheless still does an excellent job. So let's take a let's answer.

The question: is it worth upgrading from the iPhone 8 plus to the iPhone 12 Pro? Well, let's talk about couple things before we can actually answer that. First thing is that, are you looking to upgrade because of the software? Well, the software runs about the same on those both of the phones. If or what about photography, if you're looking to get a more enhanced experience or are looking to record cinematic grade, video iPhone 12 Pro might win that one um you might want to consider upgrading to it, but if you're doing basic stuff, you know just basic 4k video recording you'll be fine with the iPhone 8 plus won't really make a difference for you. Of course, both of these phones are still pretty much. You know perfect phones, you know.

Of course, you have a thousand dollar price tag versus well phone that you can get. That gives you about the same amount of power. If not, you know a little less, but you're going to be able to get the iPhone 8 plus for around four 450, maybe even less, depending on where you look at so make sure you guys check out the link in the description, so the final verdict between upgrading to iPhone 12 Pro from the 8 plus, it's all comes down to your budget and, if you're, really looking for those little of feature enhancements such as the camera just a little more speed and hardware and 5g. Of course, which seems to be the area that apple really has improved, uh finally put on 5g on it, but if you don't have the money to spend, of course, the 8 plus still holds up pretty well still, it's going to hold up for a couple of iterations. You might want to wait, so those are our thoughts of it.

Of course, if you guys have any kind of thoughts leave it in the comment section, and if this video was helpful, please hit that like button hit the subscribe button- and we will see you guys next time, thanks for watching guys.
