Welcome back everyone time to do another comparison between two iPhones that just came out: the iPhone, 7 plus and the 12 mini, and I'm totally joking, the seven plus came out in 2016. So it's definitely not the latest and greatest phone anymore, but it was a flagship at some time and that's actually pretty cool. It's pretty good to see compared to the 12 mini, which you know has just come out, and it's actually the lowest and iPhone apple made for the iPhone 12 series, and it's not a bad phone. You know it's pretty much supposed to be just like the iPhone 12 just smaller. There are some huge caveats of this phone too. Then the iPhone 12 which I'll get into throughout this video, but pricing wise.
The iPhone 7 plus costs about a little less than 300 to pick up in the used market. The iPhone 12 mini cost 729 for the base model, and you know, obviously with taxes and everything it's close to 800, so I'll find the cheapest ones about these link them down in the description below you can get them from there and help support the channel. At the same time now side by side, you can definitely see that the iPhone 7 plus is the far bigger phone than the 12 mini, and if I go ahead and just stack up the iPhone 12 midi on top of the iPhone 7 plus, you can kind of see what we're kind of dealing with the iPhone 7 plus actually has a 5.5 inch, IPS, retina display or red IPS, whatever they're going to call it, and it's actually not a bad panel. I've pretty much said throughout my life owning this phone and I own this phone as my main phone device as well during that time, and it was a perfect. I had a perfect experience with it.
It wasn't horrible really. The main thing that kind of you know makes it a little older of a device or a pure order is definitely the display or everything around the display for the most part, because with the panel itself, it's actually not that bad. It's just. It has pretty big bezels on the top pretty big bezels on the bottom, and that is a pretty big downside compared to something like the iPhone 12 mini that has that 5.4 inch super Edna, Dr OLED panel, and even though it's actually a smaller phone, the panel size technically isn't too far off, even though this one is a little wider than this one. Furthermore, it's still kind of a bigger panel you're getting on this one, in my opinion, but it's still pretty good.
I mean it's. A mu has a way less bezel around it, and this just looks more like a current design when you have a phone like the iPhone 7 plus, even if the panel itself is great, it just doesn't look that great because of the bezel around it and same thing with the 12 minute. You can take the best panel in the world, but if you throw a bunch of bezels around it, this is not going to look that good people say the same thing about iMacs too. So I'll definitely tell you. The iPhone 7 plus this panel isn't that bad, but the 12 minutes definitely is far better in terms of the thickness.
Surprisingly, I don't know if this is true or not, but I think the iPhone 12 mini may actually be a little thicker than the iPhone 7, plus it's kind of hard to tell, but the 7 plus was a pretty thin phone. Actually, when I put them side by side, I want to say maybe the 12 mini actually is a little thicker and in terms of the back, you can see dual camera setups on both we do have a glass standard glass back on the iPhone 12 mini with the iPhone 7 plus have that aluminum build and they both pretty much on the outside they feel premium. The 12 mini definitely feels more premium with its flat sides and everything versus the curved sides on the seven plus. But again I mean to each own. Some people may prefer this design.
Some people may prefer this one. I will tell you the 12-minute wins, because it has better IB certification. It has wireless charging, and it's just overall a better phone in terms of build quality, including the front than the iPhone 7 plus. So in terms of the outside that pretty much covers it up now, let's go and hit on the software, and the 12 mini definitely is going to outlast the 7 plus by many years. By the time the iPhone 7 plus is outdated.
This phone is probably still going to not even be halfway through its lifecycle. The 7 plus, I think, is going to be getting iOS 15, and I think that's it. I think it's going to end there. The iPhone 12 mini, on the other hand, is going to get so many versions of software that most people will end up upgrading their phone and actually keeping it in my opinion, so in terms of software, the 12 mini definitely wins. Now, let's go ahead and do a speed comparison between both phones, the iPhone 12 mini, has an Apple A14 bionic chip inside it with four gigabytes of ram, where the iPhone 7 plus has that Apple A10 fusion chip inside it with three gigabytes of ram.
So let's go and see which one is the better phone between both of these okay. Now I think I already cleared out all the apps, and I did so. Let's go and start loading them up. Let's do phone calls three two one and actually pretty close. I don't know if one was faster, app store.
Three two one and the seven plus was faster. What I was not expecting that one, let me go ahead and kind of swipe through. I totally was not expecting that thing to actually happen. So that's very, very surprising to me. I guess we can start loading up a bunch of other apps now which I have a bunch of here.
Let's do fruit, ninja three, two one! I don't know why that actually happened. That's very, very surprising to me and the seven plus is looking pretty promising. The 12 mini is a little slower here, and it was able to load that specific thing up than the 12 mini. So I don't know what to make of that one either. Could it be that the seven plus is faster? Let's do twitter three, two one and very, very close.
I didn't really see too big of a difference there. Let's do Facebook three two one and both are really close here to wow. This is a much closer. You know. Experience temple run two three two one, and I don't know why I said closer experiences.
The first thing that came out just a seven plus as being much faster than I was expecting it to this may be the first time when we see the seven plus being noticeably behind the twelve mini was definitely far ahead of the iPhone 7 plus, and we're already loaded on the 12 mini the seven plus a little slower, still actually pretty decently. Performing again. This is a four-year-old phone. This is a brand-new device, and you actually can kind of see this screen. Difference too, there's quite a bit of difference.
In terms of the pen on the 12 minutes seems a lot better of a panel too BFA, three two ones. So how many is the faster one here, the seven plus a little behind right there, let's go into Quizlet three two one, and I think the 12 minute was faster, but the seven plus was actually right behind it. Dropbox three, two one and twelve mini- was faster there, seven plus behind it BFA three two I could have sworn already did that let's do Netflix three two one, the twelve mini, I think slightly ahead, not a ginormous difference by any means, snake versus blocks, three two one and the seven plus actually was a little faster. There, that's very surprising I just compared the seven plus to the 12 pro max and that phone was actually doing pretty way faster than the iPhone 7 plus at that time. So that was very surprising.
Let's do thank you. Three two one and both very close here too. This is extremely, extremely surprising to me. I wasn't expecting to see this big of a difference and let's go ahead and do the next one stack. Three two one: when I say this big of a difference, I mean this much of a similarity between them and I think the toilet mini was going to be the first one there too, seven plus a little behind.
Let's do paper Io two three, two one and the seven plus was the faster one. The iPhone 12 mini a little behind this is so surprising to me. I'm not too sure why this keeps happening. This is like some seriously surprising stuff for sure. Let's do the next step real racing.
Three, three, two one now when I did hop out of it, you did see on the seven plus it did glitch up a little, so I still think the overall experience is going to be smoother and probably overall, faster on the 12 mini, but the 7 plus is doing surprisingly well. I was not expecting it to do this well, in terms of you know, comparing it to the iPhone 12 mini, you can see, the 12 mini eventually did get into it. The 7 plus, I think, was having issues getting into this game before so probably just end. It there and just probably just say the 12 minute, one and honestly to kind of sum up this comparison, I'm actually really surprised about the 12 mini compared to the iPhone 7 plus- and I want to. I want you guys to see this.
This iPhone many is on the latest version of iOS, and this phone is still having ram management issues. It just does not make any sense to me how apple can actually support a phone and push it out and have it having worse ram just overall in general than the seven plus which came on four years ago, and this is another classic case. Why is the 12 mini not able to keep these apps in the background, but the iPhone 7 plus is both on the latest versions, this one's on iOS 14.2. This is on 14.2.1, and we're still having these types of issues. It just does not make any sense to me.
It's just so extremely weird and here's another case. Well, technically, the seven plus restarted two, but it looks like it's going to be able to load back into it faster than the iPhone 12 mini. So what I'll tell you are the 7 plus was surprisingly fast compared to the iPhone 12 mini the iPhone 12 mini is supposed to be faster, and it was in some cases, but the ram management portion, the iPhone 7 plus, is probably one. So I'll, probably tell you if you have an older iPhone, do not go to the iPhone 12 mini for the ram management. This phone is a really weird performing phone, but I'll probably talk about that in another video.
I've already made a video about it, but I'll probably do another one. Let's go ahead on the cameras, like I said before: dual camera setups on both the iPhone 12 mini, has a dual camera: 12 megapixel lens 12 megapixel wide 12 megapixel ultra-wide. The 7 plus has a 12 megapixel wide and 12 megapixel telephoto lens and pretty much like I've said before nothing but good experiences overall on the iPhone 7 plus, it's been a pretty good ride and I won't say this has been the best phone ever because it really hasn't, but I will tell you this was the first iPhone to bring into a camera setup. So that was pretty surprising. I feel like the biggest downside.
You can do 4k 30 on the back, but you can only do 1080p on the front camera, which is a pretty big downside, concern considering a lot of new. You know, phones can do a lot more 4k at 60, including the 12 pro max, including the iPhone 12 mini. Has that capability, so the iPhone 7 plus this camera isn't bad, but just know that the iPhone 12 minis camera is a overall way better. In my opinion than the iPhone 7 plus and I've actually already done a camera comparison between these two, I'm just not 100 to sure when that's going to be dropping, but as I've said before, and I'll say it again, I mean the iPhone 12 minis. Camera is definitely a better performing camera for sure it's not a bad performing phone in terms of the camera, and it's actually just right up there with the 12 series.
You know with the 12 pro max, you can do 4k 60 on the back. You can do 4k at 60 on the front and that's really all you need for the time being. Until like 8k came, you know, becomes the stability or the know, bass line, the iPhone 12 mini is a perfect camera, and it's definitely better than the 7 plus, and I already told you, like I've, already done a camera comparison between these two, I'm not 100 to sure when it's dropping, but just know that the 12 mini does have an overall, better camera than the iPhone 7 plus for sure now, ending it off with the battery life. This is surprising. The 7 plus has a bigger battery than the 12 mini, but the 12 mini has the better battery life.
I don't think I did a battery comparison between these two, so I can only go off assumptions, but when I do drop that full battery comparison I'll, let you guys you know, get the notifications and be notified about it, but the swap mini has actually been doing pretty decent on iOS 14. If the iPhone 7 plus had the battery life that it had on iOS 12, I feel like this would actually end up being better, but iOS 12 has been a train wreck for the battery life, so I'll probably just say the 12 mini is the faster one in terms of the battery or the better one. So to kind of sum up this video and answer the question you know: should you go and pick up the iPhone 12 mini? Should you upgrade from the seven plus to the 12 minutes so on and so forth? What I'll definitely tell you is the seven plus surprised me today? I was not expecting it this phone to be as good as it was. You know it definitely was a step in the right direction. It still isn't perfect.
You know the 12-minute, I think, is the overall faster and smoother device, but this phone actually did a perfect job. It really did everything I threw at it. Those you know. Performance was good, every single app that I'm showing you right now that I tested it was pretty close to the iPhone 12 mini. I think when you go and step up to the bigger games, you know real racing.
Three temple, one two, those type of things it is better on the 12 mini, but the thing that surprised me most was the ram management when you're having a bunch of apps. In the background you want the know, the newest phone to be able to handle those things. Apps are only getting bigger and bigger, and the seven plus was able to do a better job when it came down to it. The 12 minute, on the other hand, kind of suffers there, and I'm not too sure. Why Apple did this? You know it.
I don't know if it's whatever they're trying to do here. They have not fixed it. I've already updated to the next version of iOS, so hopefully another version of iOS will end up fixing this, but this is actually very surprising to me. I will tell you if you have an iPhone 12 mini great phone, I'm sure, but I don't know I feel, like the 12. The standard 12 didn't have these issues.
The 12 pro doesn't have these well. I will take that back. Those phones have those issues but not to the level of this specific device. There's something about the iPhone 12 mini that apple kind of screwed. Up on, so I'm hoping they can fix it because I don't want these issues.
I want people who are upgrading from an iPhone 7 plus to have an overall, better experience, and it doesn't really seem like it. I think, in the terms of the camera, in terms of the build quality in terms of screen in terms of the smaller size, some people may prefer those things, but the ram management is one of those things that I really hope they address, and I hope they fix it as well. So I will tell you going from a seven plus to the 20 great phone, but I'll probably tell you going from an iPhone 7 plus to an iPhone 11 or even an iPhone 7 plus to the 10r will also be an perfect move, and anything from the 7 plus onward has actually been pretty big improvements to iOS in general and just the Apple iPhone ecosystem. So that really pretty much covers it up, like I said, if you want to pick these phones up, this will be down in the description below that. Pretty much covers it up.
