iPhone 12 Mini VS Asus Zenfone 8 In 2021! Comparison (Speed Test, Speakers & PUBG Graphics) By Matthews Tech

What is up guys, I'm going to be giving you guys my opinion on the iPhone 12 mini versus the ASUS before 8. These are two compact phones for people who have smaller hands, and they want a lighter phone and a phone. That's not so big and heavy on most phones. So let me grab one like the uh lg v60. You see how massive this is um. You can literally put the v6 the 12 in the v60 display, and the before also goes in there.

So this is the size of you know the display of most people's phones. These days, I take the phone wrong phone off the table. Um around 6.7 to 6.8 inches is what most people have in their pockets, these days, um and then on. The smaller end would be like 6.4. Actually, so uh phones are pretty big these days, so there isn't really uh.

You know nice market here that people are starting to notice for some smaller devices. So these are two flagship compact smartphones, uh, and you can get the iPhone 12 mini for around 629 refurbished and that's the one I have here, or you can get it new for around 700 before 8. You can get new as well for around 700. Now the iPhone 12 mini is definitely smaller uh than the before 8, and it's definitely lighter. As we can see here.

If we go ahead, you can see it's much taller and uh. Honestly they look about the same in thickness as well uh, but the before does seem a little heavier uh to me so um yo just to go over the button layout. Here we do have a power button, uh our mute vibration, switch volume, rockers charging port, stereo speakers on the iPhone dual camera setup on the back and then on the before power button volume rockers, but the ASUS before has a headphone jack and the iPhone does not have a headphone jack. So if you're somebody that needs a headphone jack, this phone does have it. So that is always really nice.

USB type-c stereo speakers as well dual camera setup here, alright. So let's go ahead and go over the display specs here, because this is actually pretty important if you're choosing between these two phones, so the ASUS before 8 has a super AMOLED 120 hertz, HDR, 10 plus display at 5.9 inches 1080p 446 for the PPI. The iPhone has a super retina Dr OLED display hdr10 at 5.4, inches 1080p 476 for the PPI, so they're both pretty much matched in terms of resolution here, but you'll notice, two differences and I prefer the ASUS before's display here, because you do have 120 hertz here, which makes everything extremely silky smooth when you're scrolling stuff like that, and you also have a smaller notch or uh. In this case a punch hole as opposed to the iPhone's very outdated uh notch on here. It is starting to look very outdated in 2021, and you can see that when you go into applications uh, you can see.

You know the display difference here, um as far as which one is more comfortable to hold, I would say the iPhone for a smaller person, because the display is overall, you know smaller um, so I think the smaller it is. The easier to be to hold with one hand and navigate with one hand, so definitely the iPhone, is definitely uh way easier to hold than the before 8, but also there is another compromise, like I said, with watching content, because when you're watching content, and you scroll in on YouTube- so let's say we're in a video: let's go to video and only before 8. It has a better viewing experience uh than on the iPhone because of that notch. So you can see you know I'll zoom in you can see I kind of have that notch interruption and on the before 8. It's not.

You know it doesn't intrude on the content as much. So that is also something to uh consider as well, but I think both displays are really great, but I would give it to the before 8 hands down. You have 120 hertz, and you have a smaller intrusion as far as uh the display goes, so I'm going to go ahead and talk about software uh. So ASUS has promised two years of update for the before 8, which I think is definitely on the lower end. Uh most flagships get around at least three years for android uh with the iOS.

You usually get around five, probably six years of updates, so the iPhone is just going to have a way longer life cycle as far as software updates, and that doesn't mean that this phone is going to be unusable in two years. It's just it's not going to get like the major updates uh, which is unfortunate um. You know that's the sort of the price you paid with android, but uh yeah, so software wise. That is something to take into consideration if you're somebody that is really uh, you know about getting your latest software updates uh. So I do want to talk about the specs a little more here.

So with the before 8, we have the snapdragon 888 arena 660, no SD card support, 128 gigs of internal storage and eight gigs of ram on this model. With the iPhone we do have um the Apple A14 chip. We also do not have micro, SD support, 64, gigs of internal storage or 128 gigs, depending on your know which configuration you get and four gigs of ram. As far as speed, both of these phones are very fast. I found that the iPhone opens games a little quicker, but as far as your day-to-day applications uh, they both pretty much seem to be on par.

So let's go ahead. Let me go ahead and get this lined up. You can see before 8 in there first got in there. First real fast, and you'll notice that 120 hertz guys. You will notice that that silky, smooth scrolling, which you know it, depends on the person some people care some people.

Don't I definitely care these days YouTube zen phone iPhone? So you can see that how fast the zen phone is here, Google Earth before iPhone, and then we have uh Pok?mon Go looks like the iPhone actually got in there. First and let's go ahead and try a game temple run. Uh looks pretty close, but I think oh wow. That was actually a tie there too. So you can see the before 8 is no slouch.

These are two flagships, very fast phones here iPhone phone and then, if we get into a heavier game, let's say like pub g here and both these phones do very well with gaming. So there's really not. You know a game that you can play. I would say the before would be the better phone for gaming, because um of the display is just bigger and you know you have that poncho versus the notch before 8 actually got in there. First with the game wow, I wasn't expecting that so the before 8 pretty much won the speed test there.

It was extremely fast. I thought it was usually iPhones get into games faster, but uh. This thing is just on the next level uh, so you can see same graphics, pretty much. You have your ultra HD, and you have extreme all the way up to HDR. It's the same thing so, like I said, there's no actual uh, there's no actual difference if you're a gamer when it comes to your you know, settings with gaming.

The difference is the 120 hertz in the display size here and um. Honestly, they both do great. I have I'm going to put out a full gaming test on both of these phones, but as far as gaming uh, these are going to be two spectacular phones for gaming. So I wouldn't worry about that. All right.

Let's talk about getting into your device, so the before 8 has more ways of getting it into your device. You have your in-display fingerprint sensor, which works really fast, very cool, always nice. To have that. Just in case you have a mask on you want to take them. You don't want to take the mask off.

You always have this, and you also have faced unlock on here as well, with the iPhone you're only getting face unlock, and that's why I say getting into your phone is going to be better on the ASUS, because if you have a mask on, then you got to pull the mask down now. Face unlock works very fast. It's I think you know it's more secure than the face unlock on here um but, like I said, I want that option. Apple could definitely just put touch ID in the uh power button to give us that that option. For people who maybe don't want to use, face ID, or I want to use both, so I really do like that.

You have on android, you have you know that option to do both uh, let's go ahead and check out these speakers, so I haven't heard the speakers side by side. So I don't know which one sounds better, uh yeah, that's actually a huge difference, and you really can tell with base quality. The before 8 is just overall much louder and the bass presence is just crazy on this phone. I honestly think it's the best one, the best speakers that I've tested. Besides, I think honestly, I'm going to put it against the v60, because um I'm trying to figure out like how is the speaker this good on this phone.

You can actually hear the bass notes, actually changing and um yeah, it's really nice. So I would say the same. It sounds like they're almost around the same volume, but the base is just it's just like night and day um so yeah. I would give it a before 800 as far as base quality and overall speaker quality. I do want to talk about camera specifications so on the before 8, you do have a dual camera setup: 64 megapixel standard, 12, megapixel ultrawide.

You get 8k video on here as well, 24 frames per second, and then you get a 12 megapixel selfie camera that shoots at 4k and uh. These info eights cameras are really, really good um. It takes some very nicely detailed shots um. The one thing that I did not like was that it softens your face with the selfies a little, but you can turn that that feature off, and it does look a little better um, but also um. It just takes some perfect shots, very natural colors, very good detail.

I was really impressed with the photos. The ultra-wide was able to retain the same color and video also was very solid on the before 8. So definitely it is a know, flagship quality camera to me. I think it takes excellent photos so on the iPhone you do get a smaller 12, megapixel standard lens and then a 12 megapixel ultra-wide uh. The iPhone does not shoot an AK like the zen phone shoots in 4k, and then you have a 12 megapixel selfie that shoots in 4k um as well, and you already know with the iPhone.

You know what you're getting a top quality camera uh here, and they take really close photos. I do want to mention that I do think the iPhone takes a slightly better photos in low light and also, I do think selfies. I prefer the selfies um. You know kind of more on the iPhone, but as far as image quality, I thought they both were pretty much on par, which is really impressive on the before 8's part um, so yeah. So I really, really like the cameras on both of these phones.

I think color comes out. Great detail comes out great. You get slightly more detailed, uh shots with these in phone. If you turn 64 megapixels on, but I think you'd be happy with either cameras on here. I think they both look great all right.

So I also want to mention that both of these phones do have NFC for your mobile payments or, if you're, somebody that does that uh. That is there uh. So as far as battery life goes um, so I'm going to be honest with you guys these phones, I would not buy for battery life, so uh battery life has always been sort of the compromise with these phones, even with my s10e, they all seem to get around the same uh screen on time, which is about four to five hours of screen on time again, depending on how you use it. So do note that these are not battery champ smartphones um. So you do have a four thousand William battery on the before 8 30 watt uh fast charging reverse charging, but there is no wireless charging on these before 8.

So do note that there is no wireless charging, I'm not sure why! But it's just not on here and with the iPhone. You do have a much smaller 2 27 William battery 20 watt, so it doesn't charge as fast as the before 8, but you do have uh the wireless charging on the iPhone 12 mini. So that is something to take into consideration whether you're somebody that needs wireless charging or not again, uh depends on the uh person uh, but yeah. Like I said, battery life is gonna, be kind of mediocre on both of these phones uh but yeah. So that's pretty much it.
