So, this is the iPhone 12 apples current middle of the road option in the iPhone line, and I really like it. It's the phone I've been using ever since its release. However, with the release of the iPhone 12, the iPhone 11 received a 100 price drop and that's another phone that I really like so which of these two phones. Should you buy in 2021, let's find out first off as usual, we're going to be talking about the specs. The iPhone 11 is rocking an Apple A13, bionic processor, whereas the iPhone 12 is rocking an Apple A14, bionic processor, so we do get a nice little incremental upgrade there. However, they are both rocking four gigabytes of ram and have variable storage options of 64, 128 and 256 gigabytes, which I personally think is a nice range.
I mean I've, never really had a use for the 512 gigabyte model. As always, these are both the 64 gigabyte version, but it's nice to know that you can upgrade your storage if you need to in terms of weight the iPhone 11 weighs in 194 grams, whereas the iPhone 12 weighs in at 164 grams and while side by side. This is definitely noticeable. Neither have ended up giving me any hand fatigue, so I think both are totally fine. Obviously, both have several color options, the iPhone 11, having slightly more but other than that- that's pretty much it for the specs.
Of course, we are going to be talking about things like screen resolution and battery size later on, but those are going to be in their respective sections so for key specs. That's it in terms of build quality, both are built. Well, they both feature that glass and aluminum build that apple has been doing over the last few years. However, with the iPhone 12 apple actually introduced a new technology known as ceramic shield, and in my testing that's worked pretty well. I have dropped my iPhone 12 without a case under concrete before from a car window, and as we can see, it survived totally fine.
That said, though, I do personally use a case with both. I would rather not risk cracking that gorgeous looking back on either, so I'd rather just play. It save both also feature an ip68 water resistance rating with the iPhone 11 rated to survive in up to two meters of water for 30 minutes, whereas the iPhone 12 can survive in up to four meters of water for 30 minutes, which is a nice improvement. The iPhone 12 also brought back that classic iPhone squared off design, which I am a huge fan of, and, as I said in the past, I actually think this makes the iPhone 12 easier to hold, especially seeing as my hands aren't, particularly big. The squared off design actually makes using a phone of this size much easier for someone like me other than that they're very similar, and have pretty good build quality.
Next up. We have the screen and to be totally honest. This is an area where you start to see a bigger difference between these two phones. In terms of resolution, the iPhone 12 features a 6.1 inch super retina Dr OLED panel with a resolution of 1170x2532, whereas the iPhone 11 features a 6.1 inch LCD with a resolution of 828 by 1792. So quite the difference both do have a typical brightness of 620 nits.
However, the iPhone 12 can actually extend up to 1200 nits in HDR mode, which, as always, is nice to see. I mean who doesn't like a nice bright panel, both feature true tone, which has been one of my favorite little features of iPhone screens for a very long time now, and both have haptic touch as the secondary interaction. I think the iPhone 11 was probably the first iPhone, at least in my opinion, where haptic touch didn't feel lankier than 3d touch. As I said before, I've been using the iPhone 12 as my main phone for like six months now, and to be totally honest, I no longer miss 3d touch, which is nice to say overall, it's quite clear that the iPhone 12 does have a significantly better screen, but I've never had too many issues with the iPhone 11 screen I mean both are fine in all lighting environments. I've never had a situation where I've had to cover up the iPhone 11 screen in order to see it and from a sensible viewing distance.
The lower resolution really isn't that noticeable either. So overall, if the screen isn't a big issue for you, then the iPhone 11 should be totally fine in this regard, but I can't help but prefer the iPhone 12, the nice rich, deep, blacks from that OLED screen along with that crispy high resolution, means that I really enjoyed the screen on the iPhone 12. Going back to areas which haven't changed so much. We have the face ID now, despite what I previously said, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. In my opinion, the face ID on the iPhone 11 was by far the best we've ever seen from apple with it being able to unlock your phone from many angles and significantly faster.
Something that I found particularly helpful is that I could keep my iPhone on a table and not have to pick it up and point it directly in my face. If I wanted to unlock my phone, and it's the same story with the iPhone 12 so well, not much has changed really and while I would have liked to see a secondary biometrics method like touch ID on the lock button overall, this is pretty good for both up. Next we have the camera and well on the surface. It might not look like all that much has changed. There are some nice little upgrades on the iPhone 12 side of things that could really make a difference if you're into your photography in terms of things spec wise, they both feature that dual camera design both have a wide ultra-wide and front-facing camera, and the main difference between these phones in terms of specs is really the aperture.
The iPhone 11 features a resolution of 12 megapixels on all cameras, an aperture of f 1.8 on the wide angle and an aperture of f 2.4 on the ultra-wide again very similar story with the iPhone 12 same resolution. However, the wide angle features an aperture of f 1.6 with that same f, 2.4 on the ultra-wide. Both phones, of course, do feature that 12 megapixel, true depth, front-facing camera both have an aperture of f 2.2. There's really not much difference here at all, so wait a minute if the iPhone 12 is supposedly better. How well, let's take a look at the performance in terms of photos.
Both do look pretty damn stunning, both have a nice level of sharpness saturation and dynamic range. However, I do like the dynamic range on the iPhone 12 a little better. I think there's more of it and the highlight roll offs a bit more pleasing one area where the iPhone 12 did. Let me download was with the ultrawide camera it's basically the same as it was on the iPhone 11 again with those dynamic range improvements. However, I do still see a little of distortion around the edges, and it would have been nice for apple to fix this on the iPhone 12.
In terms of night mode. This is another area where the iPhone 12 pulls ahead, while the iPhone 11 did introduce night mode, the iPhone 12 brought night mode to all the cameras and, in my opinion, significantly improved it on the main wide angle camera. As I said earlier, the iPhone 12 does have a faster aperture wide angle, meaning that low light performance is generally better on the iPhone 12. And while I would have liked to see some better ultra-wide low light performance, it is good enough to the point where I'd be willing to give it a pass in terms of portrait mode again. Both are very similar.
I have noticed a couple of improvements on the iPhone 12 side of things. It seems to be a little better at edge detection, but both feature a nice range of lighting modes and both are a great way to get that full-frame. Look on your phone next up. What about the selfie camera? Well, both take selfies, which I suppose is the important thing again very similar story here, slightly more dynamic range on the iPhone 12 side of things. However, I don't really think that stuff's too important I mean, if we're being honest quality, doesn't matter all that much for selfies, so yeah, both phones totally fine in the front facing camera.
Overall, it's quite clear that photo performance has been improved on the iPhone 12 side of things, but what about video both do shoot 4k in up to 60 fps, with the iPhone 11 featuring extended dynamic range. However, the iPhone 12 features Dolby Vision, HDR in 4k at up to 30 fps, and I have noticed that at least most of the time. The dynamic range is better on the iPhone 12. In terms of slow motion, both do film in 1080p and up to 240fps and bulb. Neither look great to be totally honest.
Both are certainly passable for their intended purposes. Again. I do think the iPhone 12 does look slightly better here, but overall, it is pretty close again. Both phones do feature slow fees, and I've never used them aside from testing these phones. They are completely useless.
That is my final verdict, so yeah quite clear to me that there has been an improvement on the camera side of things which is nice to see as the iPhone 11 camera was pretty impressive, upon release and still well, it's certainly not a bad camera system. I definitely think the iPhone 12 takes the win here. Following this, we have OS and app performance. To be honest, as of right now, both run great iOS 14 runs nicely on both scrolling through the operating system is smooth and opening up stock apps is flawless in terms of more intensive tasks like gaming and video streaming again. Both are good for now.
I've never really had any issues with either. However, if I were to place my bets thanks to the a14 processor and overall newer release, I do believe the iPhone 12 will last slightly longer. That said, the iPhone 11 was released in late 2019. So if you buy this phone at the time of this video, then for the foreseeable future, you should have no issues really both are incredibly enjoyable to play games on and while I certainly do prefer watching 4k content on the iPhone 12. Thanks to that, Dr higher resolution display both performed very well in 2021 in terms of speakers.
This is another area where not much has changed iPhone speakers have gradually got better over the years, but the iPhone 7, introducing the stereo technology to utilize, both the top and bottom speaker and the iPhone 11, actually took this a step further, with special audio playback helping these tiny phone speakers sound louder and fuller than they probably show it again. This is another area where the iPhone 12 has inherited all the goodness from the iPhone 11, but hasn't really innovated on it any further. In terms of actual performance, though, I found both to be totally fine, very usable for watching films or casually listening to music, and while better quality headphones will be required for quality. Listening for most casual situations, these will certainly do the trick. Finally, we get to the battery life, and this is where we see something interesting: the RFN 11 features a battery size of 3 110 William hours, whereas the iPhone 12 features a battery size of 2 815 William hours in terms of translating into real world usage.
I do occasionally find myself having to plug my iPhone 12 in during the evening. However, the iPhone 11 just keeps on going. It's honestly impressive, in my opinion, how much juice you can get out of the iPhone 11. So if that is a big priority for you, and you can't get to a charger every 10 hours or so then the iPhone 11 is the clear winner here. However, it would be completely unfair of me if I weren't to mention the MagSafe charging available on the iPhone 12.
And well. I've personally never used it. I do like wire charging, but it is a cool feature nonetheless. So if you do want that, you are going to have to go with the iPhone 12, but other than that. The iPhone 11 has the iPhone 12b on battery life in every other way, alright, so which one of these two phones should you buy well.
To be honest, this completely depends on your use case. If you're not too fast about a crazy screen and actually prioritize battery life, then the iPhone 11 is a complete no-brainer seriously. That thing has some crazy battery life. It's also way cheaper, easier to pick up used if you want to save even more money and is a fantastic value phone for 2021. However, if you want the camera improvements like the new design and want a perfect screen, then you can't go wrong with the iPhone 12.
As I said before, I've been using it as my main phone for almost six months now and well. To be honest, I would have liked a little more, this phone right here, pretty good option for 2021. , alright guys, so that's it for today. I hope you've enjoyed this one. Let me know by the way which of these two phones do.
