iPad 8th Gen (2020) Impressions - The Perfect iPad for Most!

Welcome to another live unboxing video, so in this video I will be unboxing and taking a first look at the brand new iPad 2020. But you see this is not an iPad Pro or even an iPad Air. This is the brand new 10.2 inch entry level iPad. The iPad that I would say is worth it the most, especially at its 329 pound, slash dollar price point. So without any further ado, ghetto snacks ready sit back, relax and, let's take a closer look at the entry level, 2020 iPad, okay, so every single Apple device comes in the standard, cardboard box. I have opened the seal by the way and inside we have the iPad itself, so we actually got this one in space gray.

I know that we had the other ones and I believe, silver for the 2019 model and then gold for the one. Before that there you go so on the front. We have an image of the color of the iPad that we will be getting inside uh, Apple logo and space gray, as well Apple logo on the top as well and just iPad on both sides and then on the back. We get a listing of the capacity which in this case is 32 gigabytes alongside with the iPad model, which in this case is the eighth generation now something that I've noticed is that on the boxes of the iPhones uh, the max and even the iPad pros, you get that that pull tab to remove the plastic uh wrap on this one. Furthermore, we do not, so it's still an older style box, which means that we'll actually need a knife to get this open, so probably a cheaper packaging to make.

In that case, let's see right so, let's lift the top and there it is the entry level 2020 iPad. So I'm just going to put this to the side for just one second, and let's see what else we get inside the box. So the first thing that we get is this booklet, it's designed by apple in California. Now, inside that booklets, we get the standard apple stickers, two gigantic ones. Actually these are huge.

We get the warranty and safety guide and a quick start guide, which shows you just a few well just a few tips, obviously for the full manual, you can check out the tips' app. That apple has bundled in iOS, 14. And interesting enough, even though Apple does not include a charger anymore. In the boxes of the apple watches, series, 6 and SC, we actually do get a charger inside the box of this iPad. So let me just take a closer look.

I want to see what wattage this one is, but I believe it's an 18 watt power adapter, and then we also get the charging cable, which is USB type-c to lightning so yeah. Unfortunately, no USB type-c charging port on the side, but the iPad Air gets one and the iPad Pro also has one as well. Okay. So now, let's take a closer look at the iPad itself, so let's remove the plastic, wrap. Okay, I have to say first impressions, it is pretty.

It is pretty thick for an iPad. So I believe this one has a thickness of 7.5 millimeters, which would make it the thickest iPad. Since the iPad Air won, but yeah on the front, we have a 10.2 inch, 60 hertz display uh. The display is not laminated, which you'll see in just a second. In a few shots that we'll do uh.

We have a smart connector on the side, which means that you can connect a smart keyboard, not the magic keyboard. Unfortunately, just a smart folio keyboard apple sells, or you can connect one of the thousands of Bluetooth keyboards that you can buy off of Amazon, but yeah. It's a pretty simple iPad, so I'm going to set this one up, and I'll be back in a few seconds, with my actual first impressions on this 2020 entry-level iPad. If you're watching this video, you probably have one or maybe even a few Apple devices, and if one of those devices is a mac, then you definitely do not want to miss out on protecting and maintaining your Mac would clean my Mac x. I've only heard good things about cleanmymac x. I've actually used it to the past before they became a sponsor. So I do believe that it's a great tool to have an all-in-one tool that every single Mac user should have, from the very start check it out, using the link below, and thanks again to cleanmymacx for sponsoring this video okay, so the iPad has been fully set up. So here are my quick first impressions of the 2020 iPad. First, I've noticed that the setup process has actually changed quite a bit with iPadOS 14.

, so we no longer get that full screen setup like we did before. Now we have this window that floats above the iPad s14 backgrounds, which I think is actually quite nice, but once you've set it up. You'll, probably notice immediately that this iPad feels very familiar so design wise. This eight generation iPad looks basically identical to the seventh generation iPad that we got in September 2019. This means a design, that's very similar to the iPad Pro 2017.

You know the 10.5-inch iPad Pro only with thicker bezels and a smaller 10.2 inch display desktop. Speaking of the display, the PPI is 264, which fun fact is actually identical to the PPI that we get on the iPad Air or the iPad pros. So it's pretty sharp it's. You know a retina display indeed, but this is literally the only good thing that I can say about this display. Unfortunately, this panel is not laminated, which is something that all the iPads aside from the entry-level line of iPads, have actually had since the iPad Air 2 from 2014.

So what this means is that you'll actually have a very thick gap of air in between the actual lcd and the glass surface. On top, you kind of get that feeling of when you're using an atm. You know the touch screen just doesn't feel right, and it's really a shame. A big shame that apple's doing this, considering that even cheaper tablets than this iPad, they do indeed come with a laminate display, for example, the Samsung Galaxy tab s5e, which costs almost the same, comes with an OLED display and some really thin bezels, which is a 19-day difference when compared to this LCD non-Latin display that the iPad comes with now, the colors are okay, uh, it's not a dc3 panel. So if you want to do any photo or video editing, you can still do it, but it won't be as accurate as doing it on an iPad Pro or even an iPad Air there's also a new now uh true tone display on this.

So if you're a fan of true tone, unfortunately we don't have it on this iPad. The brightness is around 500 nits, which is fine. However, there is no anti-reflective coating on this display, which means that if you don't have the brightness at full, you will get a ton of reflections. So overall I would rate this display a 5 out of 10. You know it's usable, but it's just not that great.

Now going back to the design, I do actually quite like how this iPad looks in space gray. I think that apple actually switched to a darker shade of space gray. I think so. We didn't actually get the space grade last year with this iPad, so we cannot really directly compare them, but this one at least definitely looks darker than the iPad Pro does. So I do really like this.

We do have dual speakers, but they're both on the bottom. So, unfortunately, there is no stirrer sound on the side pad at all. We still have a lightning connector, which makes this the only Apple device, aside from the iPhone to still use a lightning port, as opposed to USB type-c. The home button is still there which I'm fine with, as you can actually still use the gestures in iPadOS just like on the iPad Pro, and I actually do prefer having the think pin reader on the front as opposed to having it into the power button like we do on the iPad Air. However, something that I really did not like about this iPad is that we do not have any tap to wake functionality, which is pretty much a crime, especially when you have such a massive 10.2 engine display like having to press this very specific, tiny place on the screen, which is the home button to wake it up. It's just not great.

So for me at least this is actually the biggest downgrade or downside of having this 10.2 inch. Entry-Level iPad. Also, I have to say it's uh, it's pretty thick, so at 7.5 mm stake. This is fun fact the thickest iPad, since the original iPad Air came out in 2013, and it's also pretty heavy as well at 490 grams, which is actually heavier than the iPad Air from 2013 and just a bit lighter than the iPad 3 from 2012. Now, the good news is that we do get a spark connector on the side pad which allows you to use apple's smart keyboard.

However, I would highly advise against getting that keyboard as number one, it's very expensive at 160 pounds or 160 dollars in the US. That keyboard is almost half the price of this entire iPad and then two, the keys, feel quite mushy. So it's a pretty bad keyboard. If you really need a keyboard, just get one of those perfect ones. That Logitech offers a Bluetooth keyboard.

They have loads of those link in the description to a perfect one. By the way now it does support the Apple Pencil, which I think is great. However, it only supports the first generation Apple Pencil, which you know. That's the one that charges super weirdly now this iPad does come with two cameras, one on the front and the other one on the back, but both are pretty poor. So the one on the front is an atrocious 1.2, megapixel sensor yeah. This is not a typo, it's a 1.2 megapixel camera, not a 12 megapixel camera, and you can only do 720p video. Now the one on the back is a bit better, but even that one is a sensor from I think the iPhone 6s or so it's its pretty bad.

You know on a tablet. What can I say it's usable, but it's just not great okay. So, so far, this iPad looks really yeah pretty much identical to the one from last year, but something that is in fact new is actually the processor. This year we get the Apple A12 chip, which is a pretty big jump from the a10 that we got last year and the year before, and while the a12 is two years behind apple's latest 814 processors, it is still faster than most chips that you can find in android smartphones today and especially on this iPad you'll notice that everything just flies. So it will indeed last you for quite a few years in the end when compared to the iPad Air or not even to mention the iPad Pro.

This iPad feels just like an iPad from like 2013 or 2014, or something like it feels so old. It feels so outdated. However, at a price of just 329 or 329 pounds in the UK, this iPad is actually cheaper than an Apple Watch Series 6 and almost the same price as apple's magic keyboard for the 11-inch iPad Pro making this iPad an amazing choice for your grandparents or your children. It's honestly the perfect iPad for that definitely leave a comment if you want us to make a full in-depth review on this, like I'm quite tempted to make one if we have the time so definitely yeah just comment down below.
