Huawei P40 Pro camera review

Hey, what's up guys will here for DSM Arena and our for review of the Huawei P 40 Pro? We only went briefly over his camera quality, but it was enough to tell that these cameras are awesome. So just how good are they? Let's take a deeper look in our P 40 pro camera review. The p40 pro has a quad camera setup. That's quite an improvement over last year's there's a 50 megapixel quad bear main camera. A 40 megapixel quad bear ultra-wide cam, a 12 megapixel 5 x, periscope, zoom lens and a TOF camera. Both the main cam and the telephoto have an AR, BYB color filter.

This captures more light than traditional RGB ones. Shots from the main camp come out in 12.5, megapixels and daylight. Scenes look excellent, there's a high level of detail even in complex areas, no visible noise and amazing dynamic range. This camera uses a much larger sensor than what the resolution alone may suggest. In fact, this sensor is even slightly larger than the one on the 108 megapixel camera of the galaxy s 20 ultra.

One of the benefits of this is the naturally shallow depth of field, so both phones can be used to take some dramatic shots. The p40 pro can shoot in the main cams full 15 megapixels, which gives a bit wider field of view, because the camera has a 23 millimeter focal length. Unlike a 27 millimeter, which we get in 12 megapixels. However, this mode doesn't give you any benefit detail-wise, and these photos are actually a bit soft. If you'd like an even wider field of view, then you can switch to the ultra-wide camera.

These 10 megapixel photo has come out with excellent resolved, detail, impressive dynamic range and accurate colors. This is hands-down the best ultra-wide we've seen quality wise this year, but the field of view is more narrow than what you get out of the galaxy s, 20 ultra or iPhone 11 Pro the p40 pro's ultra-wide camera has autofocused, so you can use it to take close-up macro shots. These come out looking quite nice, the 12 megapixel zoom lens has a native 5 times zoom, and these are also really impressive. They have balanced, sharpness, excellent detail. Why dynamic range and low noise, comparing at 5 times zoom? These are much better than what you can get quality wise from either the P30 Pro or the galaxy s 20 ultra beyond five times you can use hybrid zoom 10 times, zoomed images look decent, but beyond that you really start to see diminishing quality.

The maximum zoom you can achieve here is 50 times portraits are taken with the main camera together with the TOF. These are among the best portraits we've gotten out of a smartphone, colors and sharpness are balanced edge. Detection is quite accurate. Even around stray hair and the d focus backgrounds look quite convincing. This is true when taking portraits of inanimate objects to even complex ones.

Let's move to low-light performance photos taken at nighttime with the main camera are great. They have a high level of detail, balanced exposure, good colors, very low noise and spot-on sharpness. We generally like these shots better than those from the iPhone 11 Pro, but the s20 ultra beats the p40. Even if it's by a whisker it takes some bright and sharp images, but they are also noisier than the p-40s. If you turn on the p40 pros net mode, the main benefit is that more detail is revealed in the shadows, but there is no change in the already excellent highlights.

There's no improvement to be had in terms of detail or noise. We even had some photos come out softer, so we think the 4 or 5 second weight for net mode is hardly worth it with night mode on the s20 ultra still has the edge over the p40, and this time noise is pretty well covered up. Nighttime photos from the p40 pro's ultra-wide cam are excellent, just as great as those from the main cam they're sharp, detailed and noise free colors. Look nice too, as we saw with the daylight stills, the p40 pro's ultra-wide camera blows away the competition at night turning on night mode results in a brighter, yet dramatically softer photo with less detail. We'd really recommend against using night mode with this camera.

If you switch to five times zoom at night, the results are usable, but not as high-quality is that from the other two cameras there's good detail, but the exposure is pretty dark and colors are a bit off here is where night mode shines. It works wonders at brightening up the whole picture, improving the detail and adjusting the colors, the p40 pro's telephoto doesn't have as a bright and output as he has 20 ultra, but the p forties are sharper and have more detail. Now. Let's talk selfies the p40 pearl has a 32 megapixel front-facing selfie camera, which shoots in its native resolution, there's also a secondary IR depth camera to help with portraits selfies are excellent in quality, with good detail and pleasant contrast and colors. The dynamic range is wide and since there is autofocus you get consistently usable photos.

Selfie portraits really benefit from the secondary camera. Subject. Separation is among the best we've seen from a selfie cam. You can shoot 4k video with the selfie cam and the quality is good. Detail is decent and the colors, in contrast, are quite nice.4K videos taken with the main camera at 30fps have very good detail why dynamic range and mostly accurate, colors, the ultra-wide cameras? Videos are similar in quality to the ones from the primary cam, but the colors are rendered slightly differently. The 4k xxx footage is sharp, with good contrast and great dynamic range.

The clips from the telephoto camera are quite nice. You can record enough to 4k at 30fps in both dynamic range and contrast are great. Sharpness is good, but not great. The p40 pro has three microphones and, in addition to stereo sound capture, the phone also supports audio zoom when you zoom in the video. The audio also intensifies.

Video stabilization is available in all modes, and it uses not just CIS or OAS, but also some AI processing code AIS, unlike the others, there's no toggle to turn an is off, but we do like the smooth and stable results in low-light. The p40 pro takes great bantam footage this main camera. The exposure is even, and the highlights are well-preserved. There's no visible noise and footage. Quite sharp.

Still in a direct comparison, the galaxy s, 20 ultra, isn't marginally better. Its highlights are slightly better restored and shadows are a bit brighter from the ultra-wide cam. However, the nighttime quality from the p40 Pro is hard to beat, but outside the context of ultra-wide. It's nothing spectacular, even though Huawei has branded this as a video centric camera. And finally, the p40 pro also supports a crazy 7680.

Fps super slow motion capture in 720p, the actual recording takes place in 1920 fps and the in-between frames are interpolated, but still you get a really impressive.256 times slowdown, so there you have it guys. The p40 pro did an incredible job and pretty much every category we tested the nitpicks we had were few and far between and camera wise. This is one of the best devices we've seen yet. If you're looking for a camera phone, you should definitely consider the p40 pro, but before you decide whether it's the right device for you check out our full review, which takes a look at some phones. Other aspects thanks for watching, stay, safe and see you on the next one.

You.
