HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro UNBOXING

Welcome in front of me, I have a Huawei Mate 4d pro, and today I will go over unboxing, and I want an overview of this phone. So without further ado, let's pop it open and see there, I would call it a flagship, but it's actually not a flagship anymore. I guess considering there's a plus version, so just pop it open there we go so right off the bat. You can see the phone right there great. So, let's take it out, set it over here. Um, obviously nothing in here, so I'm just going to put that to the side, and here just a cardboard.

Whatever one cares now this is looking a little different from what I'm used to. So we have a little marking on here for the sim eject tool. I guess I'll show you where to where the tray is, even though no one has ever needed that I guess uh and just a pamphlet not really much in here. That's basically everything that'll get so again to the side, and then we got something that I just consider kind of funny. Every time I see it um so obviously Huawei isn't coming with Google anymore.

So they're trying to your know, show you that hey it's okay, we have different ways of giving you the applications that you're looking for, and that is one of the come on get out there we go. I have to basically destroy everything, but I have so um. Obviously we have the app gallery the phone clone, and I'm not really sure what that is. Actually, let's just get there. Oh, I know what it is: it's just an alternative to google search, as you always have on your home screen, the Google search they don't have.

Google, so they needed to have their own phone. Clone is actually a good way of getting apps that you won't find on app gallery to uh to this device. So basically you have your phone, you download the phone clone app, and then you simply clone the app to your new device that doesn't actually have Google and that will allow you to transfer apps that aren't actually on the app gallery. Uh really neat trick. I would say so yeah just throw that aside and then here we get the charger.

So this is a massive and I really mean massive uh 66 watt charger. So I just set up the side right here, and then we got a type-c cable, and I'm not really sure what that is. Oh, they're included, type-c, earbuds, okay, so, and now they're, not wireless. Obviously, but still the inclusion of them is quite nice. Considering um, considering the majority of their phones didn't actually come with it.

So yeah there we go. That's basically all we get in the box out of uh the actual important stuff. Now something that I actually found funny is the fact that they started uh to change the sort of but change their color. I usually, I believe it was purple before now. It's orange uh.

I guess that's just signifies the uh cable's charging capacity, I'm not sure if you ever tried it, but if you use uh, for instance, their charger which for me uh just this example, I have the old mate, which is really beat up, as you can see so on the mate 20. I believe their charger was rated at 40 watts and if you didn't use their cable, it wouldn't charge the phone at the max wide edge. So I guess I'll be probably getting like half or so something like that. I'm not exactly sure, haven't actually checked it, but I know it wasn't charging at its full speed, because when you plug it in with their uh well with their cable and charger, and it charges at full speed, you can basically see the percentage or like go up on front of your eyes. So it's like, for instance, 50 point and it just the point just keeps going up without the recharger.

It will not do that, so, let's actually open it up now. It's kind of funny, because usually this is the front of the phone at a display here, it's kind of they've flipped it all around, and it looks like their primary focus is not the display. Furthermore, it's more. The cameras which seem to be interesting idea of just shifting it a bit to a different differently, but there we go. There is a phone.

It looks really premium. Obviously uh. The only thing that is, I guess higher than this is the uh, the mate 40 pro plus, which this isn't now, as you can already see at the back. We have the quadruple camera setup and this fairly big circle right here, and we have the periscope lens, and we also have the ultra-wide and the wide one and which is normal and also uh. There is what is the other one should be only three, so there's the 50 megapixel wide 12 megapixel periscope, which is this one uh the ultra-wide, and I'm not exactly sure what the last one actually is.

If that is even a camera, it looks really tiny honestly trying to look at it. As you can see, this is maybe that's just a sensor of sorts because it looks just it looks just minuscule compared to like their sensors right here, the ultra white and the white one. So I believe that might be just a sensor, but anyway, as you can see, let me just kind of move this to the side um. So you can see after I power it on. You will be able to see the display there we go, so this comes with a 6.7 inch, um OLED display at resolution of uh 1344 by 27 or 2707, that's kind of how I should probably say it and uh nice thing. It has a 90 hertz refresh rate.

I really know that they included that um, something that I kind of probably will be comparing it to is the iPhone that is, I would say, the closest thing that I can consider this to being because Huawei with their or their chipsets um they're carrying, I believe, they're faster than basically every snapdragon. So it wouldn't be a fair comparison. Now, comparing it to iPhone, I don't think it's a fair comparison either, but in terms of how they're doing everything and how well, apart from the fact that it's running on android everything here works, is really, really similar to iPhone um even through to like they're the way. The phone looks uh the packaging, how premium it is, and all that stuff it kind of resembles an inspiration from apple. So that's kind of why I'm going to be comparing it to it, and you go and continue just finish up on the setup and now, unfortunately, I do have to go through the gestures right here.

There we go and so uh with their Kiran 9000 uh. This is come on there we go uh with their qr 9000 uh. This is probably going to be one of the fastest androids uh. Unfortunately, it's I don't think it's going to be faster than iPhone. iPhone.

Just has a bit of an advantage with their uh, with there a chips on their phones, so just putting that out there, but I can see right here the benefit with this one is. It has 90 hertz refresh rate, something that iPhones didn't actually have the nus 1 the 12 series, so that is already a little of an advantage here now I will have to say you will not be able to see the 90 hertz refresh rate on the camera, I'm recording only at 60, so anything past. That is just kind of lost, but it does bring a little of an uh better experience to the device, at least that's in my opinion, any kind of phone that has a 90 or 120, preferably 120. It's just a win in my book. This one stops only at 90.

, not sure why maybe the pro plus version has 120. I haven't actually checked it, so I'm not sure about it, but it'll be kind of a not very good way of doing it. Um but yeah. So like I said this is a 6.7 inch display, 90 hertz OLED, certified HDR 10 and when it comes down to screen to body ratio, it comes at 94.1 percent. So this is a fairly uh well fairly, bezel minimal, bezel phone, basically bezel-less, I would say almost um.

If you mitigate like the six percent, that it has all bezels it, you would have just a screen itself and, as you can see, uh probably one of the bigger part of that percentage is taken by the cameras over here. So you have two uh cameras, or at least one would assume. Let's see kind of looks like two, so we have two cameras right here and yeah, as you can see, they're fairly spaced out, I'm not really sure why they went with it. It just creates this kind of like super lengthy uh, just not notch but uh. I guess a hole which they could have just put it really close together and minimize this size uh.

This is the second time I've seen it while we're doing this, so I guess they might have some reason for it. I just from a consumer standpoint, this just kind of looks like it's overly wide for no reason and just takes up a little too much screen space right here so moving on further the display with its resolution, has a 456 pixels per inch, so it is a fairly dense display. I would expect at a well. This player comes basically at 1440p resolution, so yeah now moving to the back side of the phone where we have the camera set up, as you can see over here, so we have a 15 megapixel wide. We don't have 12 megapixels, periscope, um, telephoto lens and 20 megapixel ultra-wide and well obviously, as you can see, they're branded Lacey um right here from the lenses and with that you can shoot out 4k, 30 or 60 frames, which is just something that we already expected.

I would say, uh considering the majority of their. Our newer p series and mate series is good to do it. So nothing really mind-blowing here. Obviously, you can shoot at 1080p, 3060 and also slow motions at 120, 240 and 480, and if you drop it even lower to 720p, you can shoot at uh 930, along with going to ridiculous 3080 or 300 3840 frames per second. So this is a little over the top.

This is just ridiculous, I would say, but if you want you can do it and then the front can shoot at 4k, 3060 again and 1080p uh 3060 and also slow motion off 240. Now let me just flip it over. I get our little plant right here and capture a couple photos now. Obviously, whatever I'm going to be capturing here will not be even it's unlocked there. We go nothing that will put the obvious camera to any kind of like strain uh.

So all the photos here will be just a quick photos just so you can kind of see how well they look, but it's still going to be uh well fairly, cropped, considering I'm not a great photographer, and also this is just a fairly well lit environment and just a single little photo here that I can prop that I can capture, but let's just get a photo so right now we have a couple tutorials here, but okay, so just capture it. Now it looks like a AI is disabled by default. So let me enable it, so it captures or changes it up until capture the best photo. I would say, so now we can get a look at it, so this is the AI photo. Hopefully it will be fairly clear on the camera, but, as you can see, the detail is there: it did capture most of the focus over here.

Uh. That's why it's kind of blurry on the bottom and a little here, but I have to say it did a fairly decent job. Obviously uh the colors are fairly correct. Uh the plant is a little greener on here than it is to me right here, um, but other than that. It looks well like an outstanding photo, as you would expect from this device.

If we go to this one which didn't use AI, you can see that it is clearly darker overall and just so you can see it is max brightness. So the photo here came out a bit darker without the AI um. Now it's still a perfect photo just putting that out there. Now, apart from the normal photos as you as I captured, we have ultra d, also the ultra-wide just close this off there. It is there's the ultra-wide.

So obviously you can capture way more with it and look what it did here so the ultra-wide. It looks also perfect um, but it might actually even expect it um hopefully like I said it looks good on the camera um, but this looks perfect here. Okay, let's see what else we got uh, so we went to the normal one, the one time zone. We also have a five time zoom, which oh I need to take it out of there. Now we have five times zoom, but we can also go to 10 20 30 50 times zoom.

But at this point I cannot capture anything. As you can see, I can barely figure out what I'm looking at uh. The only thing that is helping me is this tiny little image over here to distinguish what I'm actually looking at, but in terms of detail. I am way too close to even capture it if I probably move it somewhere else, if you're wondering what you're looking at is basically the camera just there's the tripod barely visible, but you can only see it on here so yeah. I.

I cannot even test the uh, the periscope lens here, because that's what it is using to capture these photos now outside that, we can also go to more where we have more options. Time lapses, light paintings, monochromes even high resolution, which will use the full resolution of the sensor um dual view which see that's nice interesting. So I probably believe this will look better in this perspective um. So it looks like it uses the uh, the periscope lens and also the normal one to capture two different views which honestly, I really like. Can I zoom in here as well? Oh, I just closed it, not what I wanted to do.

Let's go back. I can zoom that all the way to times 15, while still keeping this image as it is now that is really neat, and I kind of like this- and I believe this isn't really new. I think it already was and some of the Huawei's before, but obviously you can see that the cameras here are a up way above average, and they capture outstanding photos um. Now, let's also take out the selfie capture myself here: um beauty mode. Okay, so they started adding uh option for a toggle to have a beauty on or off which obviously I'm going to go with off.

Okay, now, also, once you capture it, it gives you the option to either a mirror or not mirror it. So I'm going to go with mirror. It just looks better to me and right here we have the photo now this actually came out better than I even expected, with this kind of lighting that I have here. So I'm not sure if it's visible on the camera, like I said, but overly, even the background is still as you can see visible clear enough. The colors of the skin tone are, I would say basically on point.

This is probably the closest thing that I feel like looks like an actual skin tone that I have encountered for a while, so yeah the selfie camera here is uh better than I even expected, but nope never mind. There is no beauty effect here. It's basically fully off and without any kind of sharpening it looks outstanding um now the subject on this photo might not look outstanding, but the photo itself does so uh yeah. This is amazing for selfies, if you're into that now moving out of the camera itself and on to other things, like I already mentioned before. The downside of this phone is the fact that it's lacking a play store.

So if you're, one of those people that rely on it, you're not gonna, get it here um, but from what I've seen there is skit, there's still apps being added to the app gallery, but already, in my opinion, there's a fairly decent amount of apps in here which, at this point around I before I was critical of it. I didn't really like it, but at this point around the app gallery contains enough apps for me to actually not care. Now there is going to be downsides, like I believe you won't be able to use Google Pay, because it's a Google app, but I'm not sure if there might be some kind of alternatives. I would really hope that there are so you can actually, for instance, pay with your phone, but finishing it off with the specifications of this device like what it comes with uh there's, one variant of ram and two of storage. So it comes with the Kiran 9000, which is a 5g version, 8 gigabytes of ram, and then the storage you have two uh 256 and 512 um, and this is an UFS uh 3.0. So you're going to be getting really stuck fast, read and write speeds, it's not going to be as fast as iphone uses, NVMe so uh.

Their storage is just on a whole new level uh. But in terms of like comparing it to the majority of the other iPhones, this is basically blowing the majority of them out of the water uh. I think the only thing that uses like well the UFS 3.1 or like the Samsung and my grew, not even all but a fairly decent amount of actual flagship devices, which this is so that's. Why it's there and also like? I said before it has a 66 watt wireless charging, which is amazing, but something that caught me off guard is apparently it has a 50 watt wireless charging, which I think it is the highest one. Unless I think there might be one that comes at 66, but that was from like a different brand um.

So I'm not really going to include it, but just so you can see this isn't going to put the phone into full charging mode. This is like their old wireless charger, but you can obviously see that it does charge it wirelessly, that's kind of all. I can really show off. I don't really have a 50 watt wireless charger so now moving out of this uh. It also has an oops, sorry.

It also has a reverse: reverse wireless charging um. Now it is only 5 watts, so nothing really superfast, but this is only going to be used to either I don't boost up someone's phone, they need a phone to make a phone call, and they really need their phone to be charged a tiny bit or to simply charge up your headphones. If you have ones that have a wireless charging case, so you just kind of flip it over slap them on here and charge them up, something that I don't have anymore to even showcase but yeah. Now, when it comes down to price tag, it does uh come on a little of a pricey side. Uh it comes at about one thousand four hundred dollars, um give or take like fifty, I would say, uh and also depending on when you're buying it uh right now, it's Black Friday.

So there is a chance. You can get it cheaper than that uh, but I'm not really sure, haven't really checked it. Um and also the device does come with a couple different colors, so we have silver, black white, green and yellow. Now the one that I've I've been showing here is the black version. Obviously, and it is a fingerprint magnet, as you can see this, this is kind of hilarious.

How many fingerprints you can see on it um! It does also have a curved screen, obviously, as you've probably seen it. So it is a fairly aggressive curve, as you can see right here. There's some road on here, so you can clearly see the side of whatever is on the display, and also it comes with a fingerprint sensor under the display um, which is really fast now you can actually go through a setup of it. So, let's go to where is it biometrics and password uh face fingerprint there we go, and we can set it up quickly and, let's add a fingerprint, so let me just quickly like swipe it. So it's fairly clean, I fingerprint okay cool, so we can see how quickly it unlocks the device come on there we go now, apart from me, just kind of showing you off couple different features right here, like the fingerprint and how quickly it works.

There is not much more, I can say here now. Obviously, the uh, this phone, probably at least won't, be really accessible in the US. If you're from there, you might have a little of a problem um getting it because of the Huawei van ban, but still, if you can,, it's a perfect device, it works like a flagship. Now I don't really like the fact that they decided to go with even higher model with the plus one it kind of obtains. In my opinion, the made series before we had the p series p pro, for instance, or p 20 30 40 pro, and there was the max and same with mates um like, for instance, my mate right here, the old one that was the at that time, the flagship uh right now, if you go with a mate 40 pro, it is not the highest you can get the highest will be the uh mate 40 pro plus, and I don't really like them, adding more and trying to rack up the price to even higher one.

It just seems like a. I don't know it just feels wrong in my opinion, um, so just lock it as you can see the fingerprint works really quickly. It is reliable if you can actually press it there we go, so it does work really well and uh yeah. Apart from that, there's not much more. I can say it has an only single sim slot, no SD card expansion unless they're using the NATO memory or whatever it was called, and apart from that, the phone works outstandingly the photos are just like, I said, top-notch um and I really like it and if you're getting this device, you're probably gonna, be getting it for the photos themselves.

Uh, that's one of the reasons might give you the phone flipped on the screen, with the showcasing the cameras instead of like every other one, comes with just phone upside instead of your downside, so yeah but yeah, it is a perfect phone. I wouldn't say it's worth 1400 uh, but that is for you to decide if whatever it comes with, it is worth for you to pay that much well. That being said, uh this will conclude the video and, if you found it helpful, don't forget to hit like subscribe, and thanks for watching you.
