This is the new Google Pixel smartphone? Well now just joking. This is the box. This is the new Googleplex of fun, okay, so the well-known Google nexus program is now unfortunately over, and this is the replacement, so the Google Pixel and the Google Pixel excel, and they both come with some really high-end specs a much more premium build, especially on a smaller model, and they also come with a pretty premium price point now, a few weeks ago, I did a video on 20 things. You need to know about a Google pixels. In case you haven't seen that video, it's a pretty interesting one, so definitely check it out the links in the description. So hey everyone welcome to don't off deck.
I'm Daniel- and this is my boxing and my initial review- of the new Google Pixel phone. In this case the Google Pixel excel, so I've been using this for the past three weeks now, actually more than three weeks and here's everything that I think about the new Google Pixel excel so far enjoy. Okay. So take your first look at the box. It reminds me a lot of the old HTC, m8 and m9 boxes, since it has this really flat profile.
So, on the front, we have an image of the pixel AFCEL pixel phone by Google. This is the black one. Sorry, quite black one there's also a very silver one, and also that rare, really blue model yeah. This is so. This is how they're actually called.
Then we have a Google logo on the left hand, side and, on the right hand, side. We get some highlighted features such as the Google Assistant, Google cast, and they dream VR, there's nothing on the back or the top and finally, on the bottom. We get the model so pixel AFCEL 5.5 inches among with the capacity which, in my case, is the baseline, 32 gigabyte model. Okay, so let slide the Box open and, as you can see, the inside of this sleeve is black, and this is color match to the device you have. So if I had a silver or a blue pixel, the inside would actually be silver or blue, pretty cool.
So let me just get my big of, the murder knife and cut a seal, and there it is the Google Pixel itself just sitting there. So let me just put it aside for just one second and see what else we get inside. So the first thing that we get inside is this booklet. Let's go and inside that we have this pretty cool, looking sim eject tool, and we also get a Quick Start Guide, which basically tells you about a Ford's how to charge and sync it how to transfer your data from your old phone and more. We then get this meteor personal Google Assistant, and this pretty much tells you some basic Google Assistant commands and a brief overview of what it can do.
Then we get this more music on us. So basically, when you get a Google Pixel, you also get three months of google play music and after those three months of trial, have ended. Yes, you'll have to pay $9.99 per month for subscription service, and finally, we get the things everyone helps tell a story. Would love to hear yours and that's pretty much it. We also get a warranty and safety guide now in terms of the actual accessories, the first one that we get is this USB-C 2 USB, a charging cable, so SBC goes into the pixel and USB a goes into the computer or a charger, not a charger that the pixel comes with by the way, because that's at USB see now a pretty cool thing about this cable is the clip here.
This actually helps you keep it nice and tight, and we also get its time anything. So this is actually a USB, a two USB adapter, so you use this in case. You want to connect the USB Drive to your Google Pixel, or you can use this when you want to transfer data from another phone like an iPhone for example. So it's really, really convenient that they're actually including this in the box, and then we have this secondary box section and inside that we have two more things: a USB-C to USB-C charging cable. So this is the cable that I used to connect to a charger or connected to a USB, see a clip computer and finally, the last thing that we get inside is this power adapter, which does have, as I mentioned before a USB-C port.
Oh, and just a quick note, if you get a Google Pixel in blue, this power, adapter will also be blue instead of black here now. This is everything that we get inside a box. So, as you can see, unfortunately, we do not get any headphones at all, and this is really, really disappointing, especially considering how expensive this thing actually is. Yes, it's much more expensive than the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, and it's priced at the exact same price as the iPhone 7 plus, and by the way the US model does come with headphones, which is kind of weird, so you came out, unfortunately, does not really not sure why but yeah. Let's go back to the pixel.
Now Google Assistant you activated by holding down the home button. So, let's take the plastic wrap off, and here it is the Google Pixel Excel I have to say first impressions when holding this in hands. It actually feels it feels great. So let me just set it up for the first time and yeah their go. The Google Pixel is now fully usable.
Okay, so I've been using my Google Pixel excel as my daily driver on the Android side, alongside the iPhone 7 plus, so the Google Pixel XL has now replaced my s7 edge as my daily driver of my daily Android driver, and here are just a few things that I really wanted to point out: okay, so starting off with the design yeah through to the design. If you have to agree, this thing looks kind of weird. So when you take a look at a Google Pixel, yes, the build quality is just outstanding. It's real, very good. It's definitely comparable to something like a s7 edge or the iPhone 7.
However, when it comes to the actual design well, you can probably tell that the Google Pixel is in the prettiest phone bill. Let me know in the comments in terms of the design which one of these three phones do: you prefer pixel XL s7 edge or the iPhone sale applause now, even though the Google pixels, in my opinion, doesn't have the best design. Holding this in hand, it definitely feels amazing, so it actually feels much, much better than the s7 edge and that's because, while the S of an edge has this very thin edge here, so there's almost nothing that you can hold it by so to say, or even when you compared to the iPhone 7, because well, the iPhone 7 is really, really thin. So in terms of how the Google Pixel feels in the hand, it actually feels really, really good, and I wasn't expecting this now. Also in terms of the design, you can probably tell that on the front.
We have these really large bezels yeah. These two things are huge. So comparing this to the Samsung Galaxy s7 edge, look at how much smaller the s7 edges when compared to the Google Pixel XL and keep in mind that they both have the exact same 5.5 inches display size. But when you compare this to the iPhone 7 plus, the pixel excel is actually smaller. So from the press images at least those bezels look huge, even larger than the ones on the iPhone.
However, in a reality, the iPhone 7 plus actually has larger bezels in the pixel XL. Now one thing to keep in mind is that on the pixel you do have the on screen buttons, which make the bezel feel a lot bigger than it actually is. So, even though this is a 5.5 inches device, I have to say for me personally. It doesn't really feel like one I mean yes, the bar does go away when you're watching video or when you're playing a game, but for most of the time it's actually going to stay there at the bottom of the display and because of that, the phone, the pixel XL, feels like a 5.3 or 5.2 inches device, rather than a 5.5 inch, one now speaking of large bezels, since you have the capacitive buttons. While you have no home button on the bezel on the bottom bezel, so it's essentially a dead non-functional part of the phone and in case you're wondering if the pixel has a fingerprint reader.
It does have one, and it's actually on the back and at first I really like this at all, and that's because, for example, if the pixels resting on the table, you have to lift it and then reach for a fingerprint reader on the back in order to unlock it and by the way, there's no tap or double tap to wake on the Google Pixel or even raise to wake. So this is really, really disappointing. However, I do feel like Google will be adding this in a future update, but once you get past that- and you start getting used to a fingerprint reader on the back, it's actually perfect. So in terms of the unlocking speed, it's actually really fast, and it can even do a few gestures with itself. The first one is that you can enable the Notification Center by simply sliding down on the home button, and then the second one is that you can do the reverse gesture and close it so yeah.
This is. This is basically everything that you can do in terms of gestures and the fingerprint reader again. I do believe that Google will be adding more gestures in the future, with the future updates. Okay. So what about a performance? So, in terms of the performance, this is hands-down the fastest Android phone I've ever used, it's insanely fast I mean I, couldn't even go back to touch weighs on my s7 edge after using this for a while.
The performance is simply amazing. It's really, really fluid, no matter what you do, the only small complaint so to say in terms of performance is that some apps and some games do take a bit longer to load than something like a s7 edge and that's most likely because they have yet to be optimized for Android, n or Android 7.0, and actually the pixel. The pixel is actually running Android 7.1 right away, ok, so what about a camera? While the camera is also incredible? The camera is incredible because, while HDR+ is always on by default, so you always get these really nice-looking HDR processed images. And yes, some photos do look like straight out of Photoshop, but I personally, really like that, and that's because I do edit. Some of my photos taken with my iPhone, is because some of them feel really dull and colorless.
So, in the end, the pixel basically does this automatically for you and because of this HDR plus processing, the highlights are almost never blown out and overall, this is the best for phone camera in daylight out there, and I'll have a more detailed video on the camera soon so definitely feel free to subscribe. If you want to see that as soon as it comes out, ok, so what about some special exclusive features? So there's actually quite a few of them, the first one being this new Google Assistant, which basically replaces Google now and is currently exclusive to the Google Pixel and Google Pixel excel and a gala system basically acts just like Siri on the iPhone would just a bit smarter. Actually it basically knows where the conversation is and what you've said like two to three minutes ago. So, yes, you can actually ask it things based on what you've said before and then a second exclusive feature, one of my favorite ones. Actually, is this new wallpapers' app? So this essentially gives you some very high-resolution wallpapers from different categories and is simply look incredible on the Google pixels excel quad HD AMOLED display, but then you have some more wallpapers, some dynamic ones actually like this Live Earth one, and this one automatically rotates your position on the globe, and it also shows you the cloud coverage and the time in real time.
Then you have this one in which the Sun sets. If your battery discharges and rises as your phone charges and many more yeah, this new wallpapers app is definitely one of my favorite features. Okay, so overall I have to say that, especially in terms of the performance, this is by far the best Android smartphone that you can get right now. However, even though it's so good, it still lacks in some key areas such as the design, for example, is not that great. When compared to something like yes of an edge and yeah, you still have those large bezels, and then it doesn't have water resistance like yes of an edge in the iPhone 7.
You also don't have micro, SD card expansion like the s7, although that's not really an issue since with a Google Pixel, you do get unlimited cloud storage in Google photos for photos and videos at full resolution. Now and then you have a couple of things such as the display is now smaller than on the Nexus 6p, so you have a 5.5 inches display versus 5.7, but at the same time the bezels themselves are actually larger than on the Nexus 6p. Now no capacitive buttons on that large bottom bezel, no headphones in the box, at least in the UK. No dual speakers like the Nexus 6p, had and a very, very high price point, the same price point as the iPhone 7 plus and yes, 7 edge. Actually, the s7 edge is now cheaper, actually much cheaper than the Google Pixel XL, but yeah living.
All that aside, a huge price point, the design, the lack of features such as wireless charging and so on. This phone still has the best performance for an Android phone and also one of the best smartphone cameras in any smartphone I'll be testing this. For a few more weeks and I will give you my full in-depth reviews and case you want to see that as soon as it comes out and definitely feel free to subscribe, and also don't forget to throw a notification on my channel or my desktop and mobile, a mobile by simply clicking on a bell icon next to my channel.
