Google Pixel 5 Unboxing (Sage & Black), Comparison & First Impressions - phones shouldn't be green!

So I've been using the Pixel 4a over the last six weeks and I thought it was great. I'm working on a few videos regarding the foray at the moment, so stay tuned to not miss them. But after using that, my perfect pixel in 2020 would have been the Pixel 4a, with a slightly bigger display, a high refresh rate, smaller bezels, a bigger battery, a faster processor, an ultra-wide camera, water resistance and wireless charging. I'm Gary this is fox tech and oh boy welcome pixel 5. ! You have all those things. Let's crack you open.

I have ordered both the sorter sage, as you can see here, and I've got the just black pixel 5 as well to compare it to, so we'll bring that in a second, but for now here's the sort of stage that we're going to unbox 128 gigabytes of storage, eight gigabytes of ram- and this is google's flagship device. You could say it's a flagship- you might know, but it's their flagship for 2020, the pixel 5. And there we have it. The sorter sage now I'll put that down for one second I'll leave that down to the side. For one second, and we'll see what else in the box, so nice colorful, google packaging as usual, comes with the sim card, eject tool and the information that you need in that we have an USB to USB, cable and the wall adapter, which I believe is an 18 watt charger, as well as an adapter tight.

You transfer data over from one device to another. So that's what comes inside the box? Yes, we do have a wall adapter, unlike some 1 000, pound flagships that have just been released, cough and let's put this off to one side for now and have a look at the sorter sage. Now I have not been a fan of this color on social media. I've not been a fan, I think green phones, I'm not impressed with green phones. I think there's many better colors out there, and I've been more of a matte black kind of guy, so I went for the black one as well.

Furthermore, I can see why people like it. It is quite nice, but it's green, and I don't know if it should be a green phone. But let's take this off and let's turn it on for the time being, so we do have. It is an aluminum back, it's an aluminum back, and it's got a cut-out for where the wireless charger coil is, which is pretty impressive, but it's unibody design. So there's no like side rails, it's all one design in aluminum with a bio resin on top, and it feels like a little of a rough texture.

It's nice! It's a nice texture to have um, it doesn't feel like plastic, but it is the clear doesn't feel like metal. Furthermore, it's not got that freezing touch when you touch it. Furthermore, it's kind of like a textured material, it's strange, but it's actually really nice to hold, and it feels good. We have the chrome kind of power button on the side and the sort of sage buttons. We do have two cameras on the back now the standard and a new ultra-wide camera on the pixel 5 and the 4a 5g.

Furthermore, we have the fingerprint scanner on the back. Furthermore, we have a personalized phone from Google g for Gary. I think it is very nice. The speakers on the bottom USB cable for charging- and here we go into the pixel 5. , so we are in England um I'll turn this on in a second I'd, go as far to say that this is the best looking pixel phone today on the front and the back, the unibody design and the matte feel really, really nice.

On the back. The chrome button is quite nice and that front display. I think it's an 85 screen to body ratio, really impressive. What google have done here- and I think they're one of the first android phones to have uniform, bezels uniform thin bezels around the screen. I really like it now.

While this is doing its thing and getting my phone ready, I have been using the Pixel 4a over the last six weeks, and we'll do a little of a comparison between the two now but, like I said, I've also got the second color of the pixel 5, which is the just black pixel 5. So in one hand we have the sort of sage and, on the other hand, we've got the just black. So you pick, which is your favorite and let me know in the comments down below I've, always been a matte black kind of guy, so the black does stand out to me as looking quite clean and classy. I get why people are saying the green looks so good. It does kind of look good.

It looks like a bar of soap. Furthermore, it looks like something you'd have as an ornament at home. Furthermore, it's kind of interesting color for a phone. I really like the blue that apple has just brought out with the iPhone 12s. The pacific blue looks perfect.

Imagine a pacific blue pixel 5. And there we have it the two different colored pixel fives side by side. Are you a black or a sort of sage? Let me know, and here are the screens two different wallpapers, and now I want to talk about my first initial impressions, so I've been using the black pixel five for the last 12 hours, I'd say and that's a disclaimer. It's only been 12 hours, but I have been using it so far today and I just want to talk about a few things that I've noticed or that stood out to me over the first day. Firstly, it feels great the aluminum back is covered in a bio resin, which I spoke about before, and it makes it feel quite rough to the touch, but it's really nice to hold.

I actually wish there was that cold metal feel, but with wireless charging present it meant there had to be a cut-out in the back, so they had to cover that over the unibody design. I think looks awesome, though, and it feels great in the hand it gives me confidence that I don't need to run a case on the pixel 5, just like what I did with the Pixel 4a. The buttons are solid and click, but not quite at the same level as the Pixel 4a. Listen to this, so that's pixel 5 and then this is the 4a. The difference in the tactile buttons is quite impressive on the 4a for the price that you're getting, but that's not to say this is bad at all.

Still perfect feels really premium, there's no wobbles or anything like that, and it feels really sword in the hand very well-built so yeah the phone feels great and with a six-inch screen, it seems like the perfect size. The bezels around the display, as you can see, are tiny in uniform, which means the footprint is very similar to that of the Pixel 4a, which had a 5.8 inch display. If you look at them side by side, there's not actually that big of a difference between the footprint and the phones. This is a six-inch display. This is a 5.8 inch display, so they've managed to do a perfect job at fitting a bigger display into a similar size to the 4a speaking of display, 90 hertz, refresh rate is back. Thank you, google.

I'm so happy about that. I really enjoyed using the 4a, but now that I'm using the 5, I can safely say, there's a notable difference for me between 60hz and 90hz displays, and I'm loving, using the pixel 5 display so far. Furthermore, I think all phones should now be higher refresh rate, especially flagships. Yes apple, I'm looking at you having the fingerprint scanner on the back is awesome. I did a video on the nexus 6p a while back, and I love the fact that they had it in the back there too, and it seems quite quick and reliable so far.

So if I lock it and then stick my finger there unlocks it straight away, it's been great for me in the first day, and we finally have an ultra-wide camera on the pixel 5, the first ultra-wide camera on any pixel smartphone, the 4a 5g and the pixel 5 both have the same camera layout, and I'm really impressed that Google have done this it'll be interesting to see how the cameras get on over the next few weeks. The pixel 5 does come with a stereo speaker setup, but what's kind of cool. Is that the top speaker is actually behind the display, it's cool, but it seems like the majority of the sound, is coming out of the bottom speaker down here. So there are no issues in some volume from what I've seen so far, but it is interesting to put the top speaker behind the display. It's a very impressive move from Google.

It looks clean on the front, but I don't know if that will affect the overall experience with the serial speakers. I'll have more thoughts over the next few weeks, I'll be testing everything out, seeing how the snapdragon 765g gets on against the snapdragon 730 and how android runs on here with eight gigabytes of ram. Let me know down in the comments below if there's anything you want to know or want me to test out, and I'll try and fit it in and follow me over on Twitter to keep up to date on how I'm finding things thanks for watching this was fox tech, and I'll catch you in the next one.
