You guys asked for it so here it is my review of the Google Pixel 5. I've had my hands on the Google Pixel 5. Now with many thanks to google for a few weeks now- and it goes without saying that I absolutely love it why well, I haven't been able to get away from the Google Pixel for the last 12 months. Ever since I got the pixel 4. , I love how user-friendly the Google Pixel is. I love how easy it was to switch from iOS to android, and it just so happens that the Google Pixel 5 is so much better than the pixel 4.
So, let's get into the review the Google Pixel 5 retails for 9.99 Australian and has launched in two different colors, the just black and the sword of sage. It's the first of the pixel range that has 5g, which is really exciting. The phone claims to have faster speeds and downloads on the go, which is great for not only the average user but also someone using their phone to the extreme. But sadly I cannot test the 5g yet, as 5g is not in my area. So the moment we do get 5g access here, I will definitely be checking it out, and I'll.
Let you guys know how it goes. So, let's get into the physical details of the phone, and we'll start off with the display. The Google Pixel 5 is sporting, a bezel-less 6-inch, full HD OLED, smooth display. The display is ever so slightly bigger than the Pixel 4a, which has a 5.8 inch display, although the phones are virtually the same size. The screen has a refresh rate of 90 hertz, which is nice.
As the screen moves quite smoothly. The front panel is glass and the back outer shell is 100, recycled, aluminum. So, overall the display and the design are top-notch. Touching more on the design, Google have opted for a more textured back with their aluminum look. I think it looks a lot more premium on the pixel 5, with the aluminum back than what the smooth polycarbonate is on the Pixel 4a and the pixel 4 a5g.
The design is water and dust resistant, supporting a waterproof rating of ip68. So don't be scared if you get your phone wet in the rain, or you'd have a slight spill on there, because it's more than likely going to survive. The outer shell has given us a fingerprint scanner, which makes me super happy, as the previous flagship pixel phones didn't have this and let's face it, 2020 has just been super wild, and we're probably going to have to be wearing face, masks a lot more in the future. Now so having a face, I'd unlock is pretty useless aside from the scanner, we have a chrome, lock button standard, black volume control buttons, and we have an USB type c charging port. There are speakers on the bottom near the charge port.
However, the pixel 5 has an under display speaker at the top of the phone, which obviously allows you to hear on phone calls. This is a first for the pixel, as with each of the previous foreign screens, bezels getting smaller the pixel 4, the Pixel 4a and the Pixel 4a 5g, especially the speaker as well, has moved positions so far. I'm noticing my calls to be a little more quiet, which is kind of a given, because there is no speaker up on the screen. It's not horrible, but I definitely notice the difference. The other major difference on the screen is the hole, punch, selfie camera, which allows the phone to really max out its screen real estate and gives us the most space possible.
So overall I love the design and the shape of the pixel 5. I think it looks really nice. However, I am more of a fan of the design of the pixel 4. I feel like those squared off edges, give it a more premium. Look now.
Moving on to the specs of the phone, the pixel 5 is packed with the strongest battery to date in the pixel range, with a 4080 William hour battery, which includes fast and wireless charging, as well as battery sharing to other devices. It has a Qualcomm snapdragon 765g with OCTA core and an arena 620 graphics card, so no difference in the processors from the pixel 4 a5g to the pixel 5. It launches with android 11, and when you purchase a pixel 5, you are guaranteed updates to the operating system for the next three years. So you won't have to worry about buying another phone in 12 months time, because you're guaranteed for three years that the operating system is going to be up-to-date. With this phone super handy for those of you who don't buy a new phone every year, you can keep a hold of this for quite a while.
The pixel 5 also has a titan and security module. So you don't have to worry about all your sensitive data being accessed your passwords, Google Pay information, even your photos, they're all going to be safe. Now, the part we all love to talk about, and that is the camera. The rear camera is a 12.2 megapixel camera and the front camera is an 8 megapixel camera. The pixel 5 brings back some of our favorite features in the camera, such as night sight and macrophotography portrait mode super resume, live, HDR plus and the dual exposure controls, but the biggest difference in the pixel 5 camerae is that the pixel 5 now has an ultra-wide lens instead of a telephoto lens, and that makes me really happy.
It wasn't often that I used the telephoto lens on the pixel 4, so I always wanted an ultra-wide camera to help with my product. Photography and my gaming photography for Instagram so to see it built into the pixel 5 makes me really, really happy. So I've taken some content and photos to show you guys the comparison between the pixel 5 and the Pixel 4a and 4a 5g, as well as the pixel 5 versus the Pixel 4 XL. That's a lot of pixels. We are currently outside trying to shoot some macrophotography photos and night sight photos with the pixel 5.
So if I show you, you might not be able to really see it's really dark out here, but when the phone detects macrophotography, it takes a couple of minutes to shoot the photo so up in the sky. The moon's up there with a few stars, so we'll see what happens with the photo. So it's too cloudy tonight. Unfortunately, I can't get really nice shots of the stars, and we did try, but the clouds were just like coming over the stars and the moon um. So I do have some night sight photos that I can compare and show you my glasses, keep fogging up, but I'll, try again on another night, where it's not as cloudy.
Some other awesome features of the pixel 5 is the ability to battery share now. This is something we have already seen before with other phones, but it's a first for the pixel range. I can charge my Pixel Buds or even another one of my pixel phones on the back of my pixel 5. Super handy, considering the battery life on the pixel 5 is slightly better than the rest. I say this because I have truly noticed a difference in battery life with the pixel 5.
In my pixel 4, a review. I said the battery life wasn't as great for me. I say this because I really have noticed it lasts a lot longer, considering all my social media use that I do daily in the mornings. When I wake up, I usually grab my phone jump on social media. Maybe watch a couple of YouTube videos as well, and I've been noticing that when I go on YouTube and watch a video, if my phone has been at 100 charged overnight after a 15 to 20-minute YouTube video, the battery hasn't budged.
It's still at 100, which I think is incredible. So we're probably thinking how the hell is this possible. Well, the pixel was built with an all-day adaptive battery, which learns what apps you use the most and reduces the power in the ones that you don't often use so, instead of having apps that you're not using running in the background and draining your battery life, the pixel learns that you're not touching these apps often, so it reduces the power to them. This means the phone is harvesting the battery life a lot more than what it would if it wasn't turning off those apps in the back. So if you're someone that hardly touches your phone, maybe you only have it for phone calls and texts, maybe with the occasional internet browsing there is a chance that you can have this phone reach up to 48 hours of battery life.
How the hell is that possible well to really max out that battery life? Obviously you won't be touching the phone. Often you wouldn't have the always on feature, which is what I have, which is where the time and your notifications always stay on the screen. You also be using the extreme battery saver mode. So when you put your phone into the battery saver mode, it's going to be saving so much more battery than what it usually would and because you're not touching the phone, often you're, not going on social media, all that stuff, the phone's barely being used. So you can really max out that battery life.
This is good for, say, older people, so I know some elderly people in my family. They hardly use their phones. They've only really got it for phone calls and text messages, maybe to look at something on the internet, but not often, so they're hardly using their phones, which means they never really need to charge it because the battery's not draining. So if you're, one of those people really, really handy with the pixel 5. So if you're, one of those kinds of people that don't touch their phone often, you will notice such difference with the battery life on this phone compared to other phones.
However, if you're like me, and you're, always on your phone you're still going to notice a perfect difference between the battery on here compared to the other models in the pixel range, as well as other phones in general. So, so far I'm really impressed with the battery life, but it's still not perfect. For me, it never will be perfect for me, because I use my phone too much, and I say too much because it is a bit of a problem. I really need to stop, but that's just me, so you might get a better usage out of it. If you don't touch a phone as much as I do so.
Overall, the pixel 5 is a really great phone. I always say that the pixel range is perfect for first-time android users, because google really focused on their software being user-friendly the phone design gorgeous, but still simple. So I really think it is a great entry level to any of you who are switching from iOS to android the design. I really love the just black looks gorgeous, but I do wish I had my hands on the sort of stage google I'm looking at you again. The performance of the phone is perfect, so much better than my Pixel 4 XL and again, as I always say, it's so user-friendly.
So I'm going to be bringing out a video for you guys where we compare the pixel 5 to the Pixel 4a 5g. These phones are both 5g, but this one is more of a cheaper phone. Are you getting the same sort of features in here as you do on the pixel 5? We shall see in my video so make sure you subscribe to stay tuned for that. Thank you so much for watching this review. Video guys.
I hope you enjoyed it. I'm going to leave you with a question and I want to know what is your favorite feature from the pixel 5? Furthermore, I shall see you in my next video bye, guys.
