Welcome back everyone, we get to do another comparison today and this time between the Google Pixel 4a and the Pixel 3a. Now the foray generously was given to me by google. So I would say: keep that in mind, but not really, because it's not like I'm going to be biased towards them. They were, they even said to be completely honest and funny enough. I made fun of the pixel 4 a ton last year that was given to me too, and the Pixel 3a, I think, was a tremendous phone last year. I don't think I really appreciate it as much.
You know when I bought it first time, but then, when I rebought it, I actually liked it a lot. I think it actually has a lot of value within it and between these two there's a ton of differences, there's a ton of similarities, and honestly it should be no shocker to you. If you have all the money in the world, picking up the Pixel 4a may be the better way to go, but still, if you want to save some money and if you actually want to save a lot of money, getting a used, Pixel 3a is a really, really good deal. In my opinion. Now with the Pixel 3a, when it first came out last year, I think it was selling for about the 300 to 350 price tag like it was really, really cheap.
But you can pick these things up on Amazon for extremely cheap, like I'm talking like less than 200 nowadays, which is a perfect price. So if you want to pick one up I'll leave one link down in the description below you can get them from there and help support the channel. At the same time now the Pixel 4a is costing 350 right now and, like I said, just came out, the Pixel 3a came out a little over a year ago. So keep that in mind, because, technically speaking, the Pixel 3a may, actually, you know not last as long software wise as the Pixel 4a, but we'll get into that in a second now. Looking on the front of both these things, the Pixel 3a has a 5.6 inch, OLED display it's 1080p, and ultimately it's a pretty decent panel. You know for me to even last year when this thing even had an OLED display, and I heard about it- I was pretty shocked by it, because that's a pretty decent thing to have on a budget phone and still maintaining that display is really cool now, with the Pixel 3a you're getting a little of bezel on the top and bottom.
But it's really not that big of a deal to me, you're getting that front camera which is really cool which every phone has nowadays. I don't know why I hyped it up, but the panel doesn't even look that cheap like it actually feels like a pretty good panel when I'm using it. The viewing angles are okay. For the most part, it's definitely not a cheap feeling phone, but it's definitely not the most premium feeling phone we're in the front of the Pixel 4a. We have a 5.8 one inch OLED display and that one is 1080p as well, technically a little higher resolution, so you're, actually getting a high resolution, pin a little on the Pixel 4a, but on top of that you're. Getting that hole, punch display, which is extremely cool to see on a budget phone like this to think that the pixel 4, the last year's flagship didn't even have this technology is really insane because the cheap model of this year actually has that, and I'll be honest.
The Pixel 4a panel is actually pretty decent for the price. Now, if I compared it to something like even like a Pixel 4 XL's display or like a galaxy s20 display, obviously it doesn't really come that close, but the fact of the matter is that this is a budget phone you're. Not trying to your know, compare this phone to that phone, so the 4a, for even having a whole punch display, is pretty important. In my opinion- and this just makes me even more excited about the pixel 5 honestly so between the displays- definitely, the 4a wins on the bottom, USB type-c on both and a headphone jack on both of these two, which is astounding. The fact that the 4a has a headphone jack as well as a 3a- that's pretty surprising.
I honestly it's kind of unneeded, but it is a feature- and I really do like that and on the back fingerprint sensors on both and a single camera setup on them as well, and the back of the 3a, in my opinion, kind of feels a little better like I feel, like the whole entire 3a phone feels a little more premium than the foray. But it's really not that big of a difference. I feel you know they're both built out of plastic, so keep that in mind, but when I'm feeling both in the hand for some reason, the 3a just feels a little more premium. So, like I said, keep that in mind. It might not be a dealbreaker.
They both don't feel the most premium thing, but for the price that you're paying for, I think it would be. You know honestly worth it for the most part. So in terms of the outside, you know, I think that pretty much covers it up for the most part now hitting on the software. Like I stated before the Google Pixel 3 I came out last year, it started off with the android pie. You were able to get android 10 on it.
I think I had the android 11 beta on it as well, and it ran perfectly fine like I didn't, really have too many issues with it, but the pixel 48 should theoretically last an extra year on top of the 3a. So whenever the 3a ends, I think that's going to be in another year or two. The 4a will get another year on top of that. So if you're talking about longevity most probably the 4a will win, but do keep in mind. Both of them do have custom ROM support, which is really cool.
So you can, you know, custom ROM, 3a. Now, I think, there's a lot of ROMs out for it and the foray whenever this phone is a year two in its lifecycle, I'm sure there will be enormous amounts of ROMs for this thing too, so that definitely covers it up in terms of the software standpoint now hitting on the performance, I did a speed test between these two, but I'll go and tell you the specs and just I'll, show you this b test. While I'm talking over it, the Google Pixel 3a had the Qualcomm snapdragon 670 chipsets, with four gigs of ram on each model with the arena 615 GPU, but the Pixel 4a has a Qualcomm snapdragon 730 chipsets, an outscore CPU, an arena 618 GPU and six gigs of ram on the model, so you're getting not only additional storage, so twice the amount of storage, but you're getting 50 percent more ram in that phone as well, and even though performance wise, the 4a wins and ram management. The 4a will win too and, as you can see on almost every single test that I've done, the Pixel 4a is actually beating it by quite a bit, and I'm glad to see this in terms of one generation to the other. Seeing this type of performance increase is really cool and just keep this in mind.
Just like a year or two ago, six gigs of ram on a phone was kind of a lot. You know it wasn't actually a small amount and even the pixel, 4 and 4xl have four gigs of ram, so this phone actually has 50 more ram than the pixel 4 and 4xl that are still selling for more, which doesn't make any sense to me. So this one in terms of performance, I think, is great you're going to get really, really good performance out of it. Now, if you're going to compare this phone to something like an OnePlus 8 or a galaxy, s20, obviously you're going to see some differences, that's 20 is going to be faster that it's probably going to be faster, but for a priced phone that this phone is priced at brand new. It's really, really hard to beat, if, I'm being honest, so, in my opinion, performance wise, you have to give it to the foray.
Dude, there's really no competition here, the 4a1 in my opinion, but the 3a. You know I'll, give it some slack here and there you know I'll, give it the benefit of the doubt in a little but 4a. Definitely one in my opinion now hitting on the camera. So, like I stated single camera setups on both the Pixel 3a had a 12.2 megapixel sensor, where the Pixel 4a also had a 12.2 megapixel sensor. Now I don't know, I think they both have the same camera setup.
To be honest, which is not a bad thing. The 3a had a perfect camera in it for the price that it was sold for and the 4a also has a perfect camera in it. I don't know if they said this or not, but I think it has almost the same technology as the force camera or the pixel 4. I'm not too sure I could be totally wrong, but if I hear anything else about it, I'll, let you guys know, but the camera wise. Let me just give a second to give a shout-out to google.
I mean they did a pretty good job at the cameras throughout time. The pixel 4 was a really weird thing. I don't know what they were thinking. Hopefully, the pixel 5 brings multiple camera setups, at least more than just the two that it originally came with the pixel 4. But even though these budget phones only have single camera setups as long as you have a pretty decent camera setup on one, then I think it's still passable, like I've stated before, though, more camera sensors are almost always better, and in this case it would have been really cool.
The Pixel 4a had an extra camera sensor, but again it kind of makes sense for the price tag that they're going for. I guess they had to spend more money on the screen than the camera. So it's still not a bad camera, though so in terms of the camera setups. Even on the front. Eight megapixel sensors on both camera phones, 1080p at 30 frames.
So I would probably say the 4a is the winner here, because it is the newer one. The software could technically be better, but the 3a camera is still pretty good too now ending it off with the battery life, and this is honestly one of my most favorite things to talk about, but unfortunately, this one is kind of weird. The Pixel 3a had a 3 000 million power battery. The Pixel 4a has a 3140 million power battery, and technically it is a bigger battery. So I'll give it that you know I'm not going to sit here and say it's like a bad battery phone or anything.
The 4's battery life hasn't really been that bad. It's been pretty average, though, for the most part, even the Pixel 3a. Last year, a lot of people were hyping it up saying it was like the best battery. I think I said it maybe once or twice but after using it for a while on the one I have now, it doesn't really seem like it's definitely, I think, on par with being average, but now that we have phones like the s20 and my 11 pro and all these phones batteries are getting so much better every year. Seeing an upgrade like this, where it's only like 100 million power, difference kind of makes me a little sad, but between these two obviously d4a has a better battery life, but even then like you're, getting better performance, you're getting technically a bigger screen, so some of that battery may go away, and you may find yourself at kind of having the same amount of battery life on both, if not a little worse on the foray, so I'll kind of leave it there, I mean with the battery life it's kind of a touchy subject, because I love battery life and I love talking about it.
But when it's this close, it's really kind of hard to tell, so I'll tell you I mean the 4a probably wins, but the 3a is kind of nearer too now to kind of sum up this video and to answer the question: should you go and upgrade your Pixel 3a to the 4a? Let me answer that question first, and I would say: maybe if you have the money to spend and if you don't want to buy like a used phone or anything like that, then I would say: go for it, but even then, if I had a 3a right now, I probably wouldn't be too inclined to go to a 4a, because I feel like the 3 is still a tremendous phone. I think it has a lot of going for it. So for those people I would say you should, or you shouldn't, but I wouldn't be too inclined to go and update. You know what I mean now, if you don't have either of these phones, and you have like an old like original pixel or something like that, should you get the Pixel 4a? Should you get the pixel 4. ? I would say getting a Pixel 4a is probably the better way to go for anybody who's looking to upgrade to at least one of these phones.
Getting the foray is a tremendous way to go. You're gonna, save yourself a bunch of time and headache dealing with other software stock android is perfect, so I'd probably give the edge to the 4a. In that standpoint, however, if you're trying to get the best value per dollar still, maybe the 3a is the winner, because you can get a used. One of these, like I said for like less than 200 dollars and that's a perfect price. That's really hard to beat.
So the choice is yours: how to honestly, probably recommend picking up the foray, but the 3a is still a pretty decent pickup, in my opinion, for the price.
