Google Pixel 4a In 2021! (Still Worth Buying?) (Review) By Simple Alpaca

So last year, if you guys follow my channel, you would have probably seen that google released the Google Pixel 4a, which is one of my favorite phones of last year, and I think it is my favorite budget phone of last year, and I'm actually really happy that Google kind of switched away from their typical. You know like. Oh, we have to release these. You know more expensive phones and maybe a couple budget phones here and there they literally kind of focused more so on these budget phones, which I'm totally okay with and the Pixel 4a, isn't a phone that will knock your socks off. It's not a phone. That's you know super competitive in really any area, but when you consider that google was able to make this type of phone at this type of price tag, this is the best thing about it.100 for sure. If this was a thousand dollar phone, obviously be horrible.

This is a sub of 400 phones in some areas. Now a sub 300 phones, if you can probably get your hands on it, and this phone came out less than a year ago. So, let's go and see how this bad boy holds up. If you want to pick it up, links will be down in the description you can get that from there and help support the channel. At the same time now the front of the Pixel 4a has that 5.81 inch OLED display it's full HD and I think it's a perfect panel for the price tag. To give you some perspective, I always compare this phone to the iPhone SE 2, mostly because they are kind of they kind of came out the same year, so I kind of throw them in the same league.

That phone is more expensive and looks way worse than this specific device. You have that hole, punch display which looks so good still on this phone, where still haven't even seen that much less of like buzz, less or anything like that, so it's still pretty okay for the most part, and I, for one, am so happy about google switching over from their. You know notch and bezel design to something like this. This thing looks better than the pixel 4, which is so crazy to me. So for sure the pixel 4's front is beautiful.

You have the USB type-c port on the bottom, which I'm super happy to see. I think you have a headphone jack on this phone too, which is pretty insane and on the back. You have the plastic back, which you know we'll get into in a second with that really decent single camera setup. Now I will tell you this phone's feeling, in the hand, is definitely one of its. You know the weakest points I wish it did have.

Maybe like a aluminum back or something like that. You know what I mean, but again for the price tag of this phone. You can't really complain about it and if you really want to get into it the galaxy s 21, even the s20 Fe that came out last year, all have plastic backs too. So this one is in pretty good company, and it's much cheaper than those phones. Now another humongous thing to keep in mind on the outside: no IP certification and no wireless charging.

So keep that in mind, I think, for a lot of people, it's probably going to be okay, you're, probably going to throw a case on it. So it's going to be a little more durable, and you won't have to necessarily feel the know pastiness of this device, but I think for the most part, whenever I do videos on this thing, it handles it perfectly. Fine. I've dropped this phone, a ton on my channel as well, and I haven't really had any issues yet so in terms of the outside a thumbs up for me for sure. I think this is a solid feeling phone for the price tag again, not the best feeling, but it's definitely okay for the most part now hitting on the cameras.

The Google Pixel 4a, like I mentioned before, has that single 12.2 megapixel lens on the back, and I actually think it's a pretty good sensor for the price tag and even not for the price tag. I think it's still a perfect sensor. This is like probably like a 500 or like 650. You know lens. I would imagine.

I think the only problem is, to be honest, is the lack of multiple lenses, so you don't have an ultrawide or a telephoto or anything like that. You literally only get the wide-angle lens which, as I mentioned before, I think, is okay, when you consider all things considered, but I would have loved to see something like the pixel 5 camerae on this thing, or even maybe like a pixel 4 camerae having that additional telephoto lens would have made this thing, I think a better. You know advertisement in terms of the camera space, but I still think the single camera setup is totally fine for a lot of people. Now. Another kind of mild disadvantage is no 4k at 60 only 4k at 30.

I think that kind of is a little of an issue, especially in this day and age. We're getting 8k and all these other frame rates we can film in, but it makes me excited about the pixel 5a that may be able to do 4k, 60 and maybe the pixel 6 will be able to do 8k. Who knows there could be something like that, but as of right now, that's kind of what we're seeing, and I think the back camera with its software enhancements and everything is actually not a bad look. I think it's actually pretty decent. In my opinion, now the front you have an 8 megapixel sensor, and can shoot full HD on here.

Thank god. It's not 720p, but again it's another one of those points where we're getting 4k 60 on the front of even budget phones. In some cases. Unfortunately, we don't get it here, but I think it's okay. For the most part, it's totally understandable it's the budget phone of the year, so I think it's totally okay for the most part, so in terms of the front and the back camera thumbs up for me, I think it's overall a good experience again if this phone was like a thousand dollar phone, completely different story, it's a 350 dollar phone, so it's totally expected if it messes up in a couple different areas.

So in terms of that thumbs up now moving on to, I think one of the best things about this phone. For sure, and probably the main reason why I would recommend people buying it besides the price tag, it's the software, this device started off with android 10. Right now, it's on android 11, and I can tell you right now. The software experience on this phone is going to be out of this world. You can.

This thing is going to have such a huge community. It already has such a large community, but because it's a stock version of android you pretty much, don't get any bloatware, it's really just whatever google wants their phone to be it's what it is, which is a huge asset for it. On top of that, how many phones can you think of right out the gate as soon as they know, get dropped and get day? One updates. So as soon as android pushes out an update or google pushes out an update. These phone gets supported.

There's not a lot of phones that have that capability now think about how many budget phones, sub 400 dollars have that capability. Typically, whenever you think of a budget phone like at that caliber, it's usually like at least like a year old or two-year-old phone, or maybe it's like a phone that just came out, and it got android 9. But then it got into return like it's kind of like something like that: you're already generation behind this type of device. It's a budget phone with beautiful software, and it's still going to be getting support for such a long time and there's going to be such a large community behind it, because so many people are going to get their hands on it, and it's such a no-brainer. In that sense, this is a solid phone when it comes down to that specific point now it doesn't have like the craziest amount of features, but I would still take stock android over something like a bloated, 1ui 3.

In my opinion, now kind of going in the same vein, you have a three thousand one hundred and forty million power battery. Now I think this is probably again one of those areas that I wished it did kind of had maybe like a thirty-five hundred mile battery or something, but I do think the 3140 is okay. I haven't really been somebody to brag about this specific battery life. I think it's actually pretty good, but I think we've just gotten into this day and age, where we're kind of spoiled we've been getting like five thousand million power batteries on the s21 ultras and these phones, but I do think for 3140 for not having a high refresh rate or anything like that. It actually does handle it pretty.

Well, so I think overall, the battery size and the software gets a thumbs up for me. I still think it's a solid performing phone in terms of those two things, but ending it off with the actual performance. Let me go and tell you the specs. Within this phone, the Pixel 4a had that Qualcomm snapdragon 730 g chipset, an outscore CPU and a Juno 618 GPU and six gigs of ram. There was only one model of this phone with six guys of ram and I actually think this phone's performance is actually pretty good.

Just recently, I've been doing a ton of speed comparisons with the Pixel 4a. Once this phone first came out, I did a bunch of comparisons at that point too, and I was actually really happy about the chipset about the performance and everything I thought it was going to be a bad performing phone because of the watered-down Qualcomm chipset, but that really wasn't the case. I had a solid experience on this thing now. It definitely wasn't perfect, but for day-to-day tasks I think you're going to be perfectly fine. I'm so glad this thing has stock android, you know.

If it didn't have stock android, it would be a totally different experience. You'd probably have a phone that would glitch up a lot, wouldn't be able to handle everything you threw at and all that stuff, but this specific device because of the amount of chipset because of the ram inside it and everything it's a solid performing phone. Now, in my case, I always test you know heavy intensive games and stuff like that, and really the only small little thing that I even noticed were like animation speeds. So sometimes it may have been a little glitchy here and there, but I don't even think it's that big of a deal. I think it's totally predictable and that's one thing I always look for reproducibility or whatever the word is basically patterns.

I want to be able to see that this phone is going to consistently give me the same speed, and I think that's one thing that this phone had going for. It was consistently the same whether it was slower glitchy. I was able to kind of predict it because if it loaded up a bigger app, it was slower. It wasn't like finicky or glitchy consistently, but you kind of knew what you were getting into so that's kind of like a long way to beat around the bush. I think this phone's performance is still really, really good in 2021, and I will be installing the android 12 beta, hopefully sometime soon, and I'm excited to see how that phone holds up on android 12 as well, so that pretty much covers it up in the performance standpoint now to kind of sum up this video, it says the question: should you go and buy a Google Pixel 4a in 2021? Well, this is what I'll tell you 100.

Yes, this phone is a no-brainer in so many ways. First, off it's a solid performing phone when it comes down to really everything I mean it's a well-rounded phone, there's no crazy features about this phone. There's! Nothing! That's going to make! You want to pick up this phone besides the price tag, but I will tell you it's a solid phone all around. I think the screen is one of you know the better screens on a budget phone of last year. You have that whole punch display, which is beautiful, USB type-c, which is awesome, a perfect back facing camera and actually like a pretty decent front facing camera as well.

I wish we had 4k 60 or 4k 60 on the front or back. Maybe the pixel 5a will bring that I guess we'll see, but I really do think this phone's. You know body is a strong suit yeah. It doesn't feel that premium and there's a plastic back on it, but it has a good heft to it and I don't think it feels extremely cheap either. You have amazing software support in this device.

It's going to be lasting for an insanely long amount of time. Battery life is actually pretty good. Performance is tremendous as well. I didn't really have too many complaints there either, and I think, to be honest, I think it's like a no-brainer in so many ways. I think it's a solid phone.

It's definitely not perfect, but I think it's a solid phone for a lot of different people, so that really pretty much covers it up.
