Google Pixel 3 XL - FULL REVIEW (after 2 months of use)

So this is the Google Pixel 3 Excel, and a lot has changed ever since my initial review from back in October lots of software updates. The camera has also gotten better. So the real question is: is this the best Android phone that you can buy right now and in most cases it actually is so here's my full in the preview of the pixel 3 Excel, covering the display, the design, the performance camera special feature is battery and so much more so grab some snacks. Some drinks sit back, relax and, let's see if this is actually the best smartphone Android smartphone that you can buy right now because, like I said in a lot of cases, it actually is okay, so interested a design. Let's be honest, Google has never had a good design on any of their smartphones. The pixel one looks like a copycat of the iPhone, and now this isn't a compliment.

It had some really thick bezels on the top in the bottom and then the back looked I, don't know, weird and honestly out of all smartphones that I've used over the past four to five years. I actually think that I would give to pixel one excel the award for the worst design smartphone and then the pixel two wasn't any better. So it came out in 2017 so just last year, but then compared to phones such as I, don't know the Galaxy S8 or the iPhone 10 the pixel to excel already looked all dated by the time it came out, so it looked like a 2016 phone. This is what a pixel one should have been in the first place, but it wasn't and then, when a pixel three, the story pretty much repeats itself from the front. At least the pixel 3 Excel is a design mess.

Not only do we have the deepest notch on any smartphone, but we also have a thick Shin as well and then to add the cherry on top of the sour cream cake. The radius of the top corners do not match the radius of the bottom corners. The front of the pixel 3xl looks like it was designed by two different companies that never talked to each other at all. The top was designed by someone who likes notches and thinner bezels, while the bottom part was actually designed by someone who likes the complete opposite, at least that that's how it looks. However, it's not all that bad for the pixel three's design, because you see the back actually looks stunning, so it's now made entirely out of glass, and it's got this very smooth texture to it.

So it feels like ceramic and honestly. This is the best feeling phone that I've ever had in my hand, I. Absolutely love how this thing feels so much better than any iPhone or Samsung or even Google phone that I've used before, and then the sides are also made out of this shiny metal, which again feels like ceramic, and then the power button is also lime, green on my white model. So even though I trashed, a pixel 3/4 its front design, the sides and the back are actually the best I've seen on any phone. It's really strange effect like when I look at his phone from the back and the sides I'm like whoa.

This phone is such a beautiful phone such a great design, but then, when I look at it from the front I'm like what happened here so overall, it does feel perfect in the hand very premium and a completely different story to the pixel 2xl from last year, which felt a bit too light, and since everything was so mad, it did feel less premium than something like an iPhone, 10 or Samsung Galaxy s 9, but not anymore. Moving on to the display, obviously, the main thing that you would notice here is that deep notch, and actually, once you start using it, you would still see it, honestly. I wasn't going to say that you'll forget about it, because that's not a case here, but you'll get used to it. And if you really don't like it, you can always disable it in the developer options. Menu I just wish that Google added this option in the official settings, so that the notification indicators would still be visible in the hidden notch area which at the moment they're actually not.

So if you disable the notch, you basically kill that portion of the display entirely and interesting enough. If you do hide the notch, you actually get thicker bezels overall, then even on a pixel 2 XL from last year, but aren't that the display itself is actually perfect. It's an AMOLED panel, and it's not made by Samsung even on to larger XL model, and it's its great. So a perfect color reproduction, no more horrible blue tint shift like we had with a pixel to XL the colors just pop. It is a bit more natural than something like a Galaxy Note 9, so yeah overall great display.

It's a six point. Three inch 29 60 by 1440 pixels in resolution, which translates to 523 PPI. Now, comparing this to something like an iPhone 10 is Max's display. Yes, I do you have to say the tennis max is display is better, it's not only larger at 6.5 inches and what's almost exact same for factor, but it's also much brighter and I mean this is literally my only complaint with a pixel 3 excels display, it's not bright enough. So if you put this head to head against the iPhone 10s Max and the no 9 in direct sunlight, so the pixel 3 is barely even visible.

However, I do like the fact that you can double tap to wake the display, unlike the no 9, as well as an always-on display on like a phone tennis max, which does are play at a time, the calendar, the weather and any notifications that you get directly on the display when the phone is sleeping. I'm, really not sure why Apple isn't implementing this, because this is an amazing feature to have I mean Samsung has been using this for many years. Google has been using. This is the pixel SU from last year and Apple I, don't know, maybe in 2020, really not sure, what's taking them this long, but it's an amazing feature to have, and once you use it, it's its really hard to go back. Now.

Let's move on to the camera everyone's been talking about how good a camera is on a pixel, 3, and I have to say it is pretty good check out my ultimate camera comparison between a pixel, 3xl, Ma Fontana smacks from back in October for a full review and look at how good the camera actually is and how will it performance but yeah. Look so assured it's pretty good. The dynamic range is just incredible: HDR shots just pop and then the front camera is also perfect, as well, even better by the fact that we now have a wide-angle lens for when you want to take group selfies. So that's great as well. Now, the only problem with a pixel 3s camera is that a picture that you take is that are really, really good or just okay like there's.

Nothing in between the iPhone tennis max is actually more consistent in terms of the results, and this is just because Google is heavily relying on post-processing. So interesting enough, if you don't have an internet connection, you might notice that some of the images that he take like blurry and unprocessed until you get online and Google servers actually analyze and process your shots. This applies to you especially panoramas. Now speaking of fellow Rama''s, there was an issue back in September where they were really low res, and they just looked horrible when compared to something like the Samsung Galaxy, no 9 or the iPhone that has macs or even the old pixel to excel. Unfortunately, that issue still hasn't been fixed, also, there's no time-lapse mode on a pixel 3.

So if you're into that, you'll need to get a third-party app. Also slow motion is just ok, nothing, special 240 frames per second, but in 720p. So, comparing this to the eye content is max, is 1080p at 240 frames per second or two, though nines 720p and 960 frames per second, and you can already see how the pixel 3 Excel just doesn't stand out in the slow motion capabilities either and then same applies to videos, so the pixel 3 Excel, for whatever reason, even though it comes with a snapdragon 845 equal, comes flagship processor for 2018. It cannot actually do 4k 60 video for whatever reason the no 9, the iPhone 10s max, even the OnePlus 60 and all the more budget phones with this processor. They can do 4k 60, but the pixel 3 cannot.

Actually. The reason for this might be HDR video you see Google is promoting HDR video capabilities with a pixel 3. So this could be why? But then the issue, our videos, they look. Okay, honestly I could even tell the difference between an HDR video and a regular one. So Google should honestly release and a software update, and you know just enable 4k 60 video for everyone.

Now, when it comes too low in photography, the pixel 3 was good, not about the no.9 was better. But then this happened so Google released nitrite as an update in November and wow wow wow. This thing is absolutely insane guys. So here's a few examples: here's the shot would without tonight side. So here's the normal shot.

Here's the same one on the pixel three, the countenance max and the no nine and now here's the exact same shot on the pixel three with night, sights enabled literally a night and they different. This is insane and now here's some other shots again. This is the normal shot, and this is the night side one and here since we already had a bit of light, the difference isn't as dramatic, but we do get a sharper image, significantly less noise and also more vibrant colors as well and then what's even better is the night sight also works with the front-facing camera so again same shot on a pixel, 3d, iPhone, 10s Max and the no nine- and here is the pixel three with night sights enabled literally a night in the difference again, and you don't have to be in complete darkness to use night side. So you can pretty much use it whenever you feel like you, don't have enough lights and the image would be noisy and soft. So that's impressive, like really impressive, but how earth does it actually work? Well, it's actually pretty smart, so you know how on a DSLR, you can set a long, shutter speed to let more light in through the sensor and take those amazing low-light shots.

Well, that's pretty cool, but the only downside to that is that if you move your hand even slightly the picture would be incredibly blurry, and you would start getting those light trails. The longer you keep the shutter open for the way to pixel three of voice. This is by having multiple long exposure shots, but only for one to two seconds so long enough to get more lights than the actual regular exposure, and then it combines all of those shots with help from the data generated by the gyroscope and accelerometer in order to eliminate the light trails and the shakiness, and it does a remarkable job at this. So images have almost your noise they're, incredibly sharp and whenever I don't have any direct sunlight, I actually prefer using night sight over the regular camera is just that good and I also find it very surprising how Google does all the processing of the portrait mode and everything with just one lens on the back. Even google's AI digital zoom works remarkably well, so I guess that it was less expensive for Google to develop.

The software for the shorter than you know include the second camera module and all her pics of three excels: okay, so the pixel three, even though it does not have the best camera for video BB, D iPhone 10s, and it also does not have the best camera in terms of consistent, good shots, but it does have the best camera in terms of selfies and by far the best camera in terms of low-light photography, thanks to you, the night sides, and this basically ensures that it will always occupy a permanent spot in my left pocket until you know something better comes out, which is most likely going to be just the pixel for next year. Moving on to the performance, it's its good, so the best part about a pixel three is that, since it's made by Google and Android is also made by Google, it's incredibly fluid I always talk about how the pixels are basically the iPhones or Android world. Everything just flows so nicely under zero lag. They want updates. I just love it.

This is the main reason actually, aside from the camera, to get a pixel phone. The software experience it's by far the best on any Android phone I mean literally. The only complaint that I have is when it comes to the RAM management. So the pixel 3 Excel comes with 4 gigabytes of RAM, which is your know, good for an iPhone, but we're Android. Even if this is stock.

Android 4 gigabytes of RAM is just not enough in 2018 on an Android phone. So I've actually had this issue before, where I only had three to four apps open in the background, and then the pixel 3 would actually have to fully reload. The YouTube, for example, is because it did not have enough memory to keep it open in the background, I never had to say shear with the iPhone tennis max, at least not with you know, just three to four apps open. Now cool did release an update in November that fixed most of these issues, but it's its still not perfect, so yeah. This is just one small thing that I had to point out and then another thing that I want to mention here are the gestures, so Google added iPhone, 10 style gestures in Android, PE, and they're nice, but they're very intuitive at a moment.

So you have to swipe up to bring up the dock. If you swipe just halfway through you bring up the multitasking bar, but then you still have to tap on the home button to go. You know to go home which is basically step backwards anyway. There's a lot of people who are complaining about this, so I really hope that Google updates the way the gestures work now. Does the pixel 3 come with any special features that make it unique? Well kinda, so we get they want.

Updates things to is true stock Android nature, and we also get at least two years of software updates and support, and then Google also offers a limited photo and video storage and Google photos at four Lucian with any pixel phone, which is a huge plus. So, for example, on iPhones Apple only offers five gigabytes. That's for five gigabytes of iCloud storage, but that's where everything like backups, not just photos. Google gives you a limited storage at full resolution for photos, unlimited versus just five gigabytes for literally everything, and then you get things such as the squeeze for the Google Assistant feature which honestly I never use, and then you also get France tier of speakers. This is the reason why we have the deep notch and the chin, and they actually sound good, so choose how they compared to the no.9 and the I. Hopefulness Max is the brand-new iPhone R, and then google also offers first party VR support with our daydream, VR, which is actually perfect.

So I do love mine. The remote is completely underrated by the way, and they dream. VR is literally the second-best mobile VR on the market right after Samsung's gear VR, ordering that a pixel 3 is actually the first pixel to support wireless charging. Finally, now of course that, since this isn't Apple, we do get a fast charger inside a box which is awesome. This is something on every single phone with fast charging should come with, and then this year we also get some proper headphones inside the box, which were actually missing from the first two pixels now, of course, that the price was also increased in order to accommodate.

For that, then, water resistance is also here, ip68, so up to 1.5 meters of water up to 30 minutes, and then probably the coolest feature of the pixel 3 excel is that it can actually answer phone calls for you, as in the Google Assistant, can actually speak on your behalf, which is absolutely insane. However, I couldn't really test this on mine, because you know I think it's region dependent and carrier dependent. So at a time being it doesn't work in the UK, unfortunately, but it works in the US. So if you're in US, you can try to see yourself and Burley, it works really well now, which is it a battery life? It's its good, not as good as the note 8, and also not as good as the iPhone 10 s max, but aside from the no 9 I would say that this is actually this far phone, the Android smartphone with the second-best battery life. Just because of how well everything is optimized.

Ok, so in the end, is the pixel 3 Excel a great device? Well honestly, it actually is, but you see, I find it hard to pick between the pixel 3 and something like the Samsung Galaxy known, I, know and daily Android rubber, because the pixel three is a perfect phone overall, no, no nine, even though it has worse performance. You know it has a lot of bloatware, its laggy comfort to the pixel 3xl, at least as no day. One updates, the camera is a bit worse in terms of you know the nighttime shots and so on. But if you get 4k 60 video, you do get 960 frames per second slow motion, and you also get some pretty good low-light. It's not bad.

It's actually perfect as better than the 10s max in low-light, and you also get a much better design, a much better display and a unique feature, such as the s-pen, and also the DEX talk, which is also really useful, and the pics of three excel doesn't offer any of that. But it's a very well-rounded phone actually perfect for those of you who want an iPhone without getting an iPhone and the camera in low-light with night sight is just out of this world. It's that it's that good and what I know for sure is that I would actually be keeping my pixel 3 excel and so far it's actually replaced by no 9, and it's definitely worthy of my Android pocket MIDI. Let me know the comments. What do you guys think about the pixel 3 excel? I really want to hear your thoughts on this, or at least read your thoughts.

The police describe notifications. If you need to channel- and you want to see more in-depth tech- videos like this one except the bell icon- so that you can notify it as soon as a new video comes out and also guys don't join the zone, you can tap the join button, and you can become a member support a channel, and you also get access to some pretty cool exclusive features. But yeah. Let me know also in the comments, if you manage to make it until the end of the video by saying I managed to make it until the M hashtag, pixel, 3 or lemon or something whatever you want. A hashtag, but yeah I think we're watching.

I'm, Daniel and I'll see you guys in the next video. It's an effect, sunny nails, Cheers.
