Hey there sock here from sake, tech and in today's video we will do a full comparison between the Samsung Galaxy note, 20 ultra and the Samsung Galaxy s21 ultra. So the note 20 ultra was released in August 2020, while the s21 ultra in January 2021. So naturally, people are asking questions which one is the better smartphone. If I'm in the market to buy the s21 ultra or the note 20 ultra, which one should I buy, and the most common question I get is, if I own the Samsung Galaxy note, 20 ultra, do I upgrade to the s21 ultra. So in this video I will answer those questions directly by doing a full and complete comparison of every aspect of the smartphone. In the end, we will tie everything together in a conclusion and give you some precise answers.
So, let's dive in and start by, the build and design all right. So both of these smartphones follow a similar build quality. They both have gorilla glass, 7 Invictus on the front, okay and if you flip them over, we also have gorilla glass Vitus, and we have gorilla glass vectors and around the edges on the frame we have aluminum. So both phones have the same exact, build quality. The final result is a solid build and a million dollar in hand feel now when it comes to the actual design, things differ a little.
If you look at the note 20 ultra, we have that signature, boxy design with the s21 ultra. We have curves around the edges, so this design is a little more playful, but with the note 20 ultra, it looks a little more professional. Personally, I prefer the slightly more professional look on the note over the curvy playful design of the s21 ultra, but regardless both phones are stunning from every angle and also they both offer a matte finish on the rear, which is a direction I'm glad Samsung has taken matte finish means less shine and less fingerprint smudges. Both smartphones are ip68 grade water resistant which, which means they can easily withstand water, splashes, rain and dust. That's just fantastic: they both have stereo speakers, including Dolby, Atmos sound.
As a result, both phones will produce loud and rich sound, which is great for watching movies, playing games or listening to music without headphones and, of course neither smartphone offers a headphone jack. So, as you can see so far, we have equally valuable smartphones built with quality designed expertly. Now, let's move on and talk about the processor memory and storage all right, so the Samsung Galaxy note: 20 ultra sports, a snapdragon 865 plus processor, offers 12 gigabytes of ram with 128 gigabytes base storage. The s21 ultra has a snapdragon 888 processors offers 12 gigabytes of ram as well, and you get 128 gigabytes off base storage. Now the Galaxy Note, 20 ultra offers a micro SD expansion option, so you can add up to one terabyte of extra storage, if necessary.
S21 no longer offers the micros expansion, which might be disappointing for some people. So we do have that difference. Now when we move on to the benchmarks, let me just launch the geek bench benchmarking application here. Uh. Let me just go to my history, so let me just go to my history and here we have our benchmark scores.
Let me launch this one as well, and we can compare them real, quick to see how the performance is on these phones. So let's go to history tap on the latest one. So look at these scores. The single core on the s21, of course, is faster. We have a faster processor, but it's not by a huge margin.
That's 966 and that's 1101. For the multi-core. This is 3451 and this one is 3042. So of course the s21 is going to be slightly faster, but the note 20 ultra still is a beast. These numbers are just expected improvements that you get with every iteration of a new processor.
So, of course, in this category the s21 gets a lead in processing power, but the note 20 retains a lead when it comes to storage expansion options. Now, let's move on and quickly talk about the dimensions of these smartphones. Now I do want to let you know that this one right here are 227 grams okay, so this is going to be heavier than this guy. That guy is actually 208 grams. So it's going to be a little lighter in the hand, and also the s21 ultra is in fact thicker than the note 20 ultra.
So just something to keep in mind. I do not think that's a huge deal when it comes to making a decision between the two, but we do have the heavier and the thicker phone on this side with the s21 ultra. Let's move on and talk about the actual display, all right. So the note 20 ultra has a gorgeous dynamic, AMOLED display it's a 6.9 inch display. We have a resolution of 3088 by 1440 and 496 pixels per inches.
The s21 ultra has a gorgeous dynamic, AMOLED display. It is a little smaller 6.8 inches. We have a higher resolution 3200 by 1440 and 515 pixels per inches. Both phones support, HDR, 10 plus, and both phones offer 120 hertz, refresh rate, with the small caveat that I'm going to be talking about. In a minute now, when it comes to the actual display quality, both phones offer top-notch display experience just look at how crisp and clear they are peak brightness on both smartphones is impressive.
They are very easy to see in daylight conditions, but I do want to let you know the s21 ultra is going to be slightly brighter. Now we do have a slight difference on the 120 hertz refresh rate. Let me show you what I'm talking about. So if I go to my display over here, okay, if I go to the motion smoothness option look at this, I can have them both at 120 hertz, refresh rate for super smooth scrolling. But if I go down over here to my screen resolution with the s21 ultra, I can have the highest resolution and the 120 hertz with this one.
If I go over here and click apply, it's going to tell me. The 120 hertz is not supported in the highest resolution, so that's one difference with the 120 hertz option with this one. You can only have it here with this one. You can have it anywhere that you want so for sure. The s21 ultra has a minor lead in this category, but again nothing dramatic all right, so both smartphones run on the latest version of android, with the new one UI 3.0 overlay. So essentially the software experience is going to be identical on both smartphones.
As you can see, both phones offer the same exact night mode or the dark mode. Okay, they have the same exact interface, the same exact menu layout and the same exact software features. Both phones are fully customizable. They have the edge panels, as you can see, so no huge difference there, but there is one difference. We do have the s pen situation now.
Both phones support this amazing tool, no problem and, of course the s pen does add some powerful functionality to these phones. However, here's the deal the note 20 ultra has a built-in slot at the bottom of the phone right here. So it is a much more convenient proposal. You can have this on the go. It's portable, and it's very it's going to be very hard to actually lose this guy because it resides inside the body of your note, 20 ultra.
Additionally, you don't have to pay extra for the s pen because it comes included with your purchase. Now with the s21 ultra uh, the s pen is gonna, be need to be purchased separately and that's going to be a 40 price tag and also, if you do want to house the s pen and make sure you don't lose it you're going to have to buy a case cover for the s20 ultra. That's going to have an s pen slot and that's going to cost you another thirty dollars. So with the s21 ultra, you will be paying extra for the privilege of the s pen and one more thing. That's very important is, if I go to my settings over here in both phones and if I go to my advanced features.
Okay, and if I go to s pen, you will notice that the Samsung Galaxy s21 ultra is going to be lacking the air actions' menu, which allows you to use your s pen to control your device remotely. You can play and pause music go to the next track, go to the previous track, and you can do a whole other bunch of things. You have an entire menu dedicated to remote control functionality known as air actions, because this s pen has Bluetooth built into it. This s-pen does not have the Bluetooth functionality, it can do everything else, but the remote controlling. So this s-pen is a little more advanced just something to keep in mind now.
Let's move on and talk about the cameras, alright. So on the front, the s21 offers a 40 megapixel main camera, while the note 20 offers a 10 megapixel main camera. Obviously that doesn't mean the s21 is four times better. It's just a little sharper no big deal. They both get the job done.
Let's talk about, what's actually important, the rear camera, so the Samsung LC s21 ultra has four cameras. We have a primary 108, megapixel camera. We have a 12, megapixel super wide angle, camera, and then we have two telephoto lenses. Then you can see the flash and the laser autofocus system on the top right. The note 20 ultra has three cameras.
We have a main 108 megapixel camera, a 12, megapixel super white camera, and then we have a 12 megapixel telephoto camera. So four cameras, three cameras. Now here's the deal, the main cameras, the 108 megapixel camera and the 12 megapixel telephoto camera on both phones are on par. They both take excellent photos. However, when it comes to zooming capabilities, the s21 ultra takes a lead.
It is a hundred times hybrid, zoom and 10 times optical zoom, while the note 20 ultra has 50 times, hybrid zoom and five times optical zoom, and on top of that, the photos you take with the s21 ultra zoom camera is simply going to be clearer than the note 20 ultra. So if you are into zooming capabilities, you want to focus on the s21 ultra. It has the better zoom camera. The other thing is the s21 ultra gains macro capabilities, so that means you can take close up macro shots with the s21 ultra. They are simply going to look much better than the one on the note 20 ultra now beyond that both phones record excellent video they both are capable of 1080p 4k and 8k video recording.
So overall, I would say both cameras are top tier, no question about that. Any average consumer is going to be fully satisfied with either camera, but remember the s21 ultra has better zooming capabilities and better macro capabilities. Now, let's move on and talk about the battery all right. So the note 20 ultra has a 4500 William hour battery capacity, while the s21 ultra has a battery capacity of 5 000 William hours. S21 ultra gave me 30 minutes of extra battery life under similar conditions and, of course, both phones offer 25 watts superfast wire charging and also fast wireless charging.
Both phones also offer the wireless power share feature which will allow you to charge other wireless charging enabled devices on the back of your note or s smartphone. So in this category it is overall the same situation. Both phones deliver equally well. So both the note 20 ultra and the s21 ultra offer an invisible under display fingerprint sensor. The s21 ultra does get an update to the fingerprint sensor.
That is now actually a little larger than the one on the note 20 ultra. So it is actually better not by a huge margin, but I noticed that it was a little faster, and you did not have to place your finger exactly on the sensor, as you often have to do on the note 20 ultra with this one there's a little more room to actually play, and you're still going to log in no problem, instead of being rejected, so again a little improvement in this category. Now, when it comes to pricing, the note 20 ultra is 1 300 and the s21 ultra is 1200. So, let's move on, tie everything together and draw a conclusion all right. So how do we draw a conclusion? Which one is better? Do you upgrade here is how you want to analyze the situation notice that, as I was comparing the two phones, I kept saying in most categories that the s21 had a lead, but also kept using the keyword a little meaning? Yes, the s21 does have a lead, that's obvious! It's the latest generation phone, but every lead it has is just a small improvement.
Nothing major has happened to the s21 ultra s21 ultra did not get any new killer features, it's all the same stuff with typical improvements you would expect, while going from one generation to the next. None of these upgrades or improvements warrant any upgrade from the note 20 to the s21. Now what, if you're in the market to buy one of these phones for the first time now, then I would get the s21 ultra over the note. It is gonna, be a hundred dollars cheaper. If you buy them brand new and with the s21, you are gonna, get the option to add the s pen capability.
If you need it, however, if you can get the note 20 at a sale, maybe for a thousand dollars, then I would actually get the note 20 to save more money, and you still get a powerful product. So, yes, the s21 is the better phone, but only marginally. Nothing dramatic do not upgrade from the note 20 to the s21, but if you're in the market to buy one of these guys, you could go with the s21, and that brings us to the end of this video.
