Galaxy S20 FE Review - Faux Flagship For Everyone! By C4ETech

Hey guys ash here last year, Samsung launched the Galaxy S10 lite, which was a phone with flagship internals at a not so flagship price point now the galaxy s20 FM is a kind of sort of spiritual successor to that phone. So do you still get the s20 flagship experience here or has Samsung cut one corner too many to hit that price point? Well, I've been using this as my primary for about a week now and this video, I'm gonna, try to answer those questions to the best of my abilities. Let's start by addressing the elephant of the room, the back it's plastic. Now, we've all heard that plastic is bad. Okay. What am I talking about hearing? I have said it over and over again that flagship on a plastic I mean plastic on a flagship is bad but hey.

This is not a one lakh rupee flagship. It comes in at a lower price point, and before I even get started with this, let's actually take a look at what all Samsung is actually offering with the s20 Fe. First, the internals. This phone is powered by Samsung's flagship Enos 990. Now would I have preferred the 865 probably, but this is still a flagship soc.

It runs everything smoothly. We've got the latest Samsung one UI 2.5 in here right from the super fluid refresh rate to NOX, decks wireless decks, even full-fledged Samsung pay. Everything is present and accounted for here. Samsung doesn't seem to have cut any functionality. In fact, despite having a plastic back, there's support for 15 watt, fast wireless charging and reverse wireless charging as well.

So hey. If you have a pair of samsung budges, plus or uh buns life, you can actually top it up with the s20 Fe. The display is super fluid, like I said it's 120 hertz, but the resolution it's kept at full HD. Now, even with the top flagships, the galaxy s20 ultra the Galaxy Note 20 ultra we get to choose between 4k 60 or 120 full HD. So me, personally, when I was using all these phones, I still ended up choosing 120 hertz at full HD plus, because I felt that offered a better experience.

You could get the smoothness you get. You get to feel the smoothness. Now with this phone. The choice is kind of made for us already, because it's only full HD 120 hertz. That's it this 6.5 inch panel. It's typical AMOLED.

It's got punchy colors, it's quite vibrant. The viewing angles are good too. It's hdr10 capable and covered by corning's gorilla glass 3, which is a few generations old compared to vectors. That's on the note 20 ultra. So that is a tiny little corner cut.

Moving on the punch hole here, it is the smallest Samsung's ever offered. Now, while we are talking about this punch hole, it's a tiny little punch hole right, but at times like say, for example, when you're using face unlock uh, the area around this punch hole also gets blacked out. So it appears to be a larger punch hole at that point and this kind of kept triggering my OCD. Now I understand this is a minor cosmetic bug at best, so I am nitpicking but hey it's something I thought was worth mentioning in the video. The combination of this 120 hertz panel and the latest Enos 990 chips means the s20.

Fe is great at performance. It's able to game pretty. Well. Now, especially with games that support higher refresh rates, the s20 Fe managed to run them beautifully the audio output via the stereo speakers- and yes, stereo speakers- are retained. These are some of the richest and fullest sounding speakers.

I've come across, so that also adds to the experience and now, given that this is a fan edition, it does miss out on one fan. Favorite feature the headphone jack, but, like I've said in my older videos, this is not a brand problem. This is an industry problem, almost every brand right now on their premium phones, they're, cutting out the headphone, jack and Samsung is also one of them. So hey, it is what it is. Other features are also presenters: ip68 water and dust resistance, there's micro, SD, there's a solid 4, 500 William hour battery and hey the phone ships with a charger just saying now.

Now that is a caveat here. The charger included in the box is 15 watts, though the s20 Fe, just like other s20 phones and no 20 phones, has support for uh 25 watt charging. Now I would have preferred to see Samsung include a 25 watt charger here, because phones price cheaper than this mid-rangers Samsung, have been including uh 24 watt chargers with them. So it would have been a little better if they did it with this phone as well. But right now, if you want 25 watts, you're going to have to purchase that separately inbox, it's 15 watts, with battery with my kind of usage, which involves about an hour of YouTube, a little of gaming, a lot of camera usage.

A lot of I mean constantly checking social media uh 30 minutes to an hour of calls with this kind of usage. I still end my day with about 20 left in the tank and do know that I left the display at 120 hertz throughout my testing, because I feel you're buying a phone with a 120 hertz panel, you're, probably going to use it with a 120 hertz panel. That said, if you do switch to 60 hertz, you should probably get a little more out of this battery. Next, the cameras there's no 64 megapixel zoom or 108 megapixel primary here, but what we have is a very competent 12, megapixel, f 1.8 primary the lens here is optically stabilized. Then we have an 8 megapixel telephoto again with is and finally there's an ultraviolet.

I like the fact that Samsung says triple cameras, and we actually get three cameras that we can use, and they've, not really added a depth sensor or a monochrome sensor or a macro sensor just to pad up the numbers, the camera performance. As you can see, it's typical Samsung images are brewing with detail. They have nice punchy colors. I really like the pictures. This camera took just look at the dynamic range here.

How blue the skies are? The ultrawide offers more of the same with telephoto it's 3x optical zoom, but at up to 10x the results are usable. You can go all the way up to 30x, but hey that's just digital zoom you're not going to get great results with that low light is where I expected to see a major compromise, but now the performance, as you guys can see it's still pretty much. Flagship-Esque Samsung offers a full-fledged pro mode, and it's even available for video by the way, there's no 8k, 24 fps, but 4k 60 is present, and the footage is quite excellent, very fast autofocus, due to the dual pixel technology at play: the selfie camera, it's 32, megapixels fixed focus, but for stilts like this and even 4k selfie videos, it does a good job. This is 4k 60 fps by the way. So these are all what Samsung has to offer with the galaxy s20 Fe.

Now coming back to the original topic, the build okay enough, given that all this flagship, functional functionality is included, and the frame is metal, add to it the fact that this back- yes, it's plastic, but it doesn't feel cheap. The mat, the matte plastic actually feels nice in hand, and it's also it's also helping Samsung keep the weight low. So taking all these into account, I would say the back. The plastic build is not that much of a negative here, especially compared to some glossy plastic builds. I find this better, and it's definitely better than plastic, so hey build.

Would I like to see this over a mad class finish? No, would I like to see this on a one lakh rupee phone most? Definitely no, but at this price point I find it acceptable. So the galaxy s20 Fe turned out to be a pleasant surprise. For me, Samsung seems to have delivered exactly what they promised a galaxy s20 experience at a lower price point. Now: yes, well a few corners needed to be cut to hit that price point overall, the user experience it has still remained. Flagship-Esque Samsung's done quite a good job here.

So if you wanted a flagship experience, a Samsung flagship experience under the 50 000 rupee price point, then this is the way to go. The galaxy s20 Fe is a wonderful phone and Samsung's done a very good job here. So these are my two cents.
