Hey, what is up guys? It's Stan here back with another video, so we are just a handful of days away from the next apple keynote event. The famous September keynote uh. This one is gonna, be the big one for apple watches, new iPhones and basically, whatever they've been working on over the last year, so uh, I figured since we're gonna, be getting new Apple Watch Series, sixes, uh, there's going to be a brand, a lot of brand-new potential Apple Watch customers, and I want to take the time to talk about my experiences with this watch. I've got right here, and this is the apple series.5 edition watch the ceramic edition and it's been exactly one year since I picked it up since I picked this up as a day, one purchase back last year, so you may already know that there are two versions of the Apple Watch edition you've got the ceramic edition, and then you've got the titanium edition. And initially, when I was purchasing my Apple Watch, I was actually debating between the ceramic and the titanium. And what finally made me go with this.
One is because there are a lot of premium watches out there that are made out of metal. You've got stainless steel watches, you've got titanium, watches, but there's really nothing like the ceramic Apple Watch here or really any ceramic watches the white just pops, and it's kind of different right and the titanium watch is really similar. Well, it's got a brushed surface, but it's really similar to the stainless steel and even a little like the aluminum, because it's still metal right and I just kind of wanted something unique. So this Apple Watch is basically my only watch that I wear nowadays. In fact, I've basically sold off all my other watches.
So I wear this when I'm working out. I wear this when I'm going to work. I wear this right into the shower on most days because I'm just too lazy to take it off so other than sleeping this watch is going to be on my wrist now, because of that, this watch has been subjected through a lot of wear and tear. You know what I mean by that is when I'm working on the car, I've got it on, and sometimes I bump this into them. You know into whatever or if I'm working in the backyard this watch will get dirty.
But that said, as you can see here, this watch is still almost in flawless condition. That's basically what you can expect. If you pick up the Apple Watch edition the ceramic edition, the ceramic is very hard, so it's very resistant to scratching and about six inches away from your face with normal lighting. You basically can't see any scratches now. If you do shine a bright light on the ceramic, you will see that it does scratch a little, and I'm talking about hairline scratches something what something similar to what you would see on.
Maybe a car that you know those micro scratches on a car. The swirls you'll see a little of that on the sides, but um for the most part. You really can't see it unless it's under bright light. The sapphire crystal, is a very hard material, it's much harder than the regular ion exchange glass. Now it's not as hard as some premium watches sapphire crystals.
Those watches basically never scratch at all, but this is somewhere a little softer than this kind of sapphire crystals, but still much harder than regular glass. What this means is when you're normally looking at it. You really don't see that many scratches, but sometimes if you were to angle the watch in a way that catches the light, you can see some hairline scratches again after a whole year's worth of use. This is still very good performance because we take a look at my wife's aluminum Apple Watch at the ion exchange glass. It's scratched severely, and it's very apparent when you're just looking at it most of the scratches came from.
I think two events. One event was me catching this watch on a door hinge and the metal yeah. I hit it really, really hard, and the metal scratched into it. The other event was getting the watch caught under a granite countertop. You know like those granite countertops and the bottom side is a little rough, and it just caught the edge.
So I guess granite is able to scratch sapphire crystals, so I got a couple scratches from that other than that, though, the sapphire crystal on the top is still in a very, very good shape. Now, on the other hand, on the back side of this watch, what you'll find is that there is also another piece of sapphire crystal on the Apple Watch. Editions you get the sapphire crystal on the top and on the bottom of this watch on regular apple watches, it's not as hard of a material. Now, unfortunately, the sapphire crystal on the backside of the watch is significantly more scratched than on the front, and this is primarily because of the Melanie's loop. I had chosen the black Milanese loop because it contrasts with the white very well and just makes that white pop just that little more, but because the black has an amorphous diamond-like coating to make sure that the black stays black rather than starting to chip off and turn silver color.
This material is significantly harder than my stainless steel Milanese loop that I had in the past and what it seems to be happening. Is this coating is a little harder than the sapphire glass so because the Apple Watch is magnetic on the back side it likes to clip on to, or it likes to attract the Milanese loop and when you take your watch off, and you just set it on a table, for example, it'll just sit on the table. This is when the watch up pulls the Milanese loop to touch the back side of the crystal and any little of movement or sliding of this loop against the backside of the crystal causes. Scratches that said, even with the scratches, the heartbeat monitor has been working flawless, so uh, because you really don't see the backside of the crystal. You probably wouldn't even notice it unless you were to really take off the loop and examine it under a bright light.
It came as a shock to me that it was scratched up so badly, but then again, hey um. You know at least it's not on the front side right. When I initially bought this watch. I was actually most concerned about the Milanese loop wearing more so than the ceramic watch. Like I said, I had a stainless steel Apple Watch and a stainless steel millennium loop that ended up getting a significantly scratched up, but because it's stainless steel, you know scratch stainless steel, looks like stainless steel, so uh that really hit the scratch as well.
However, I was worried that the black coating would be coming off, and you'll end up seeing a lot of that shiny stainless steel, which kind of isn't what you're. Looking for when you pick up a know black loop here, so I'm really happy to say after a whole year's worth of wear, there is almost nowhere on this black Milanese loop and the only little teeny tiny bit of wear is on the clasp in the corner and this corner right here uh. This is primarily where, due to my wrist scratching against metal tables or laptops, you know my MacBook Pro, for example, that clasp sits right up against my wrist on the MacBook Pro or basically whatever hard surface. So I'm very impressed that, after all this wear, it's just this little teeny tiny corner that you have a little of wear the rest of the links, on the other hand, are basically flawless, and this is very encouraging because you know after a whole year's worth of use. I can see this going another year and having minimal amounts of wear additional wear on the loop.
Now, that's just the coating on the Milanese loop. There is a flaw in the Milanese loop that I have observed over time and on my previous stainless steel version, as well as the black version, sometimes right in the joint right here, where the loops connect to the metal, clasp or the metal bracket. If you will the end loop end link sometimes gets a little frayed and may stick out a little. What you'll have to probably do is to use something like a hard tweezer or whatever, to push it back in to make sure that it doesn't catch on anything uh. If you push it back in, if it comes out, if you push it back in it'll, work, and it'll look just like new, but you know if you notice that your Milanese loop is sometimes catching on clothing or whatever double check that area, especially right here and here, because uh that might happen.
This Milanese loop is the only Apple Watch band. I've got or actually I take that back. I do have the Apple Watch band that came with the Apple Watch. Furthermore, I think it's like a white band, but I replaced it immediately with this melodious loop and because of that I used the Melanie's Lou for exercising. Furthermore, I use it for just, just all scenarios, and my experience with exercising in this loop is actually pretty good, because it's infinitely adjustable.
You are able to get this loop to exactly how tight you want it to be, and, and you kind of get an idea of the perfect tightness to be able to get a good heart rate uh monitor. So if you need a little tighter, you just you know, tighten it a little. If you want it a little looser, you know you can easily make it looser. So I think this band isn't really advertised as an exercising band, but I think it works actually pretty well. Besides, the ventilation on this loop is actually pretty good because it allows your skin to breathe, and I don't have to worry about sweat getting this all dirty.
It's not like it's leather. You know I could just wash it whenever I want now other features. I really like about this Apple Watch now this isn't specific to the ceramic edition Apple Watch, but what I really really really like about the series 5, and I'm sure it's going to be present on the series 6 as well, is the always-on feature rather than having to flip your wrist up to be able to get the Apple Watch. To turn on to show you the time it has a very always dim on mode where you can just glance down without moving your wrist to be able to see the time. I think this is what made the Apple Watch just that much more useful for me is because you know you could be able to see the time you can.
You know other people can see the time on your wrist. It's just it's. It behaves like a watch less so like a phone where you have to tap at it to be able to see anything on the display, because it has the always-on feature and I use the always-on feature uh. Furthermore, it does eat into the battery life a little now. If I recall the series three and four, I think I got like two and a half, maybe three days out of the battery life, I would charge it every night, but if I were to forget the charge, I could eke out another day or a day and a half.
What I have found is that, after a whole day's worth of use, my battery is right around maybe 50 55. So if I were to forget to charge it, I could basically make it through the next day um. It's still basically two days of battery life and by the end of the day, it's going to be complaining about me less than ten percent. It's going to be vibrating beeping at me, so about two days worth of battery life and that's pretty consistent, even after a whole year's worth of use. I still get about two years or two days worth of battery life, which is pretty respectable, especially when you consider that you're basically recharging this every night anyway right now.
This is a very strange observation. This is a complete tangent, but when I wear this watch into the shower and when water hits the microphone on this watch, it complains about me being in a very loud situation like 90 95 decibels, 100 decibels and tells me that you know my hair hearing protection or whatever. I find it very interesting that little water droplets, hitting this little hole, is able to trigger that loud noise alert. If you're on the fence about getting an Apple Watch. I really think that this is probably one of the better or the best wearables that you can get, and especially the series 5.
I don't know what the series 6 is like, but I can only imagine it's better if you're on the fence about which version of Apple Watch to get it really depends on how much money you're willing to spend to me. Furthermore, I picked up the Apple Watch editions knowing that I'll probably be replacing it in about two years: um the resale market of these Apple Watch. The edition apple watches are pretty, pretty mediocre, meaning the resale value uh. It takes a pretty big hit, but you know I went in knowing that I was getting about two years worth of life out of these. So if you're, okay with spending that kind of money for a couple of years worth of use, then go for it.
This thing is uh. You know it looks like it's brand new every single day and on the last day of ownership, for you, it'll still look very, very good and right now. I think that you know I feel like I don't need the new series, 5 app watch or series 6 Apple Watch. You know it's one of those things where every single year you're like oh, I don't need the new thing, or I don't need the new iPhone right like I have a perfectly good iPhone. I have a perfectly good Apple Watch and then the new thing drops, and you're like this thing is a piece of crap.
This thing is like all of a sudden. This thing went from the best thing in the world to completely useless, and it can't hold a candle to the newer version uh right now. What I'm saying is this Apple Watch is amazing. It's its. I don't think I'm going to upgrade and just you watch in a few days I'm going to be like.
Oh, I need the new Apple Watch. In any case, if you got the money, and you've accepted the fact that a wearable is good for a couple of years, and you know you're still wanting to pick up this Apple Watch edition, I really think that you should just go for it, because I have absolutely no complaints. My experience has been great and if I were to do it all over again, you know one year ago I would still spend the exact same amount of money and pick it up all over again because, like I said, it's been basically flawless for me. So hopefully that helps you in your decision purchasing decision. In fact, I'm sure by the time you're watching this, the Apple Watch version 6 is going to be out.
So in the comments down below tell me if you're getting an Apple Watch, what version is it going to be and why I'll catch you guys in the next one.
