Welcome back everyone, we're gonna, be talking about a phone and a phone lineup that actually kind of ended recently, which is pretty strange and the specific phone is the blackberry classic but blackberry, as we know, according to TCM a lot of other manufacturers like berry, it's done for and they kind of switched away from being like a hardware company to a software company. More so and no offense to them, I mean I, think they were pretty cool, but I never really got their phone out line up for the most part, I understand, they're, more so for like business professionals or people like that. But even at that point, I still think there was a pretty huge market gap between blackberry and pretty much the rest of the phone lineup, and that really goes to show because they were having struggling. They were having problems, and eventually they are out of business now or something now the thing with blackberry and the specifically with blackberry classic and in this whole entire video I'm, going to basically talk about my whole entire experience. Now, basically, what I'm going to say is this whole entire video is opinionated. It is my opinion on this thing: I've been kind of like with BlackBerry's in general, like I, said: I have a hard time, understanding their concept, so kind of keep that in mind, while I'm going through this video.
This is all my opinion. I could be totally wrong in a couple of things, but they stopped my experience with this. This is basically what I felt like when I was owning the blackberry classic now, looking around this whole entire device, there's some cool things about it. There's some quirky things about it too. Now the front of it is really cool and interesting, because it looks like the older BlackBerry's, which it is an older of blackberry at this point, but they kind of brought some newer cool things to this too.
And you know, without this we wouldn't have gotten the BlackBerry passport and the BlackBerry cute ones that in mind as well. Now this thing came on in 2014 in June, so it will actually be turning 6 years old at this year, which is pretty insane. You know something like deaths, definitely not an older; it's definitely not a new phone. It's definitely an older phone for sure and it kind of looks like a six-year-old phone, it kind of looks older, but also at the same time it kinda looks newer as well, which is kind of funny. It has like a newer kind of vibe to it.
Now, on the front of the phone, we have a 3.5 inch IPS panel. It is 720 by 720, with 294 pixels per inch, and the panel itself really isn't that bad. Since it's an IPS panel, it's pretty much. You know the same thing as a lot of other IPS panels to this day and age. Just the problem is: is that there's a ton of bezel around this panel and also with that keyboard which I'll get into in a second? But this in this day and age I, don't think a lot of people really like phones with bored, so they don't want to phone through phones with keyboards, and that goes to show, because there's not really many manufacturers doing that and so I kind of, like it, I think it's kind of cool having that keyboard on the bottom.
But the screen itself is good I, like that. You have that Blackberry, local or top, as was that front-facing camera, which is cool now right. Underneath that screen, there's like a quick little button tall was on the bottom, so you have that trackpad button in the middle you have the black brain mobile sign and, in the end, color pick up call and the back button on the right side and the end call pick up call whatever to which one that one is and then right below. All that. That's where you have that QWERTY keyboard, which is a hardware thing and, like I, said, I, think a lot of people really like this thing at the time and most people who would pick one of these things up majority of them picked them up because of the keyboard they liked.
Having that physical keyboard there- and you know it's not just business professionals, I've seen a ton of people from you- know: music producers to singers to songwriters to actors have blackberries back in the day, and one of the major things they used to say was because they had that physical keyboard, and this was even after the fact I phone came out and androids came out that took up. Basically, you know they were all screens no keyboards at that time and this phone you know with this keyboard and everything I think it's a cool concept, I think it's cool, but I just don't think it's really practical in this day and age, since most people don't really want to use keyboards, and one thing I will tell you is with this keyboard. Is that I know I, don't want to spend too much time on it, but when I was going through the set when I was using it just now, I honestly, don't really like how the in order to put in like the button, the numbers and everything and the periods and stuff I have to constantly click alt and then type in the numbers and all that versus on something like iOS or Android or any other keyboard manufacturer software keyboard. You can easily just you know, click alt on there one time and then go in the numbers, and some Android keyboards actually had the numbers already up there. So you can just tap in the numbers instead of having to constantly typo or whatever, and some of them have periods that you can type in and everything like that without having to constantly click alt and go from there and that can kind of be an issue.
Sometimes it's not a crazy big deal. I'm sure a lot of people aren't really going to run into that many problems with it, basically because nobody's really using it now, but that can be kind of an annoying thing, and I'll get more into the keyboard in a second but I. Don't want to spend fifty hours talking about it on the bottom, you had that micro USB port on the back. You have the single camera set up and on the right, you have that SIM card slot, and you also have a micro SD, our thought on this thing ? and on the top, a headphone, jack and funny enough power button writing in the center, which I found hilarious. It's very weird, I've never really seen that before on the phone like a power button right on the top in the center and actually low-key, I kind of like it right there, I, don't like it when the PowerPoint and the volume buttons are on the same side, so even on the top is perfectly fine with me, obviously like with the iPhone 5s and those.
Those also had the power modes on the top. So this one's kind of funny, but the phone actually doesn't feel that bad, the back feels pretty cheap. The front of the phone doesn't feel that bad the keyboard feels pretty click still, but this chassis of the phone flows were really, really nice. It still feels like a very good phone. It's up there honestly and has perfect have to it.
?, which is surprising so if you're holding this one without a case, it'll actually give the impression that it's actually a pretty expensive phone and I think I only paid like twenty-five dollars. For this thing, probably I think I paid less than thirty for this thing, which is expected because it's pretty old phone at this point, but either or I, think this phone is still a pretty decent built phone, but the quirky things like the corny keyboard, quirky QWERTY keyboard in the screen and just overall build, is a little off-putting to some people, I'm sure. Now that kind of sums up the hardware I spent like five minutes talking about that as I didn't really want to the software wise though it started off with BlackBerry OS. Ten point three point: one: we are able to upgrade to ten point three point two now. The weird thing is the software obviously is kind of the same as blackberry, passport break u1 and those, but I'm not really to sure.
Why? But I cannot install any apps on this thing. I think the software is fine for the most part, it's pretty slow and everything which I'll get into in the performance section, but I can't install any apps, which is really weird, and I even tried installing some APK files, which I know this is not technically an Android device, but I was able to install APK files on my blackberry key one in my blackberry Passport. So this is a little weird. I wasn't really to sure why that was happening, but I was able to download those APK files like Temple, Run, 2 and cross your roads and those, and I was able to install them, but I wasn't able to actually open them, which was weird so maybe because those files are so much newer and this phone is on outdated, soft or maybe that's why? But I'll do some more research and figure it out, but I wasn't able to get into the Amazon App Store, either, which was really stupid, because how am I going to download anything I was not able to download any apps on this thing, which is a humongous inconvenience. If you're somebody who wants to constantly use his phone as a daily phone and move on from there.
That's a humongous deal just because you're on outdated soccer doesn't mean we shouldn't be able to go into the app store anymore and the fact that I wasn't able to install any APK files. It's a pretty big deal into the software, so soccer wise, it's completely outdated. I was not able to do what I was wanting to do on this phone in terms of software, so because of that I'm actually kind of upset about that I've never really had a phone before where that actually happened. Even my like Nexus S that came out I think even before this phone that was able I'm still able to install IP keys on that stuff too. So this one's a little weird I'm, not really to sure.
Why, but it is what it is now moving on to the performance side of things. This thing has a Qualcomm Snapdragon s4, plus a dual-core CPU in Arena, 225 GPU, there's only one model of this phone, the 16 gig model with two gigabytes of RAM, and what I can tell you about the performances is that it's pretty good G from what I was able to test, because I wasn't able to test the gaming and all the stuff on this phone. It was an OK performing device for the most part for twenty fourteen phones. In this day and age, though I mean it's pretty outdated, it's pretty glitchy. Anything I was going to do with it.
It kind of rubbed me the wrong way. It does kind of have this newer kind of gesture based design, which is kind of funny, because that's like what Android 10 brought, but I think if you're going to use his phone as a main phone, it's not completely slow, but it's just you know: I wasn't able to get the apps on it, so I'm not able to test it. Some of their built-in apps, like YouTube and stuff, literally just open the browser and just go to YouTube. com. It doesn't even have the actual official YouTube video app, which is so funny, so I.
Think overall, I mean it's. An OK performing phone like I, said for a 2014 phone, but I've had many other 2014 phones like the iPhone 6 and the Galaxy s4 I, think at the time or the galaxy s5. Those phones performed so much better and are much more capable and better phones than this specific phone. So again, I don't want to hit on blackberry too much. They are for Allah, but it's just kind of weird that that's the case and moving on to the camera.
This thing has a single eight megapixel camera on the back, and it's okay I mean it gets the job done for the most part. If you can take a photo ache, I guess I'll take the photo. You have a couple settings built in too, which is kind of nice, but again it's not comparable to anything. Even back in 2014. You know we had the iPhone 6, where the galaxy s5, those cameras were pretty capable on those phones and this one not so much.
You know it's okay, I guess you know if you're in a pinch, and you need a camera, it'll be able to take camera photos and videos and stuff. But not only do you use a quality, not that good, but, like you know, it's liking, those telephoto lens ultra light sensors, which at that time had a lot of phones had, so I can't really blame too much on it, but at the end of the day, it's really you know in the middle, in terms of the camera, so I'll give it like a little below average, just because I'm being nice now ending off with the battery life. This thing has a non-removable 2515 male power battery, which honestly isn't too bad I. Think it's definitely. You know on the lower end since because this phone is so old, the battery has depreciated for a while, and I've actually owned this phone for a couple of months now and I just now, cut in to actually using it and I.
Think in terms the battery life, it will definitely get you know through a day almost because this thing is under powered. The screen is pretty low resolution and all that, but ultimately, on my usage, it would probably give me through a day. It could probably give me through multiple days, because I can't download any apps on this thing. So I can't really go any further on it, though, to kind of some video and to answer the question: should you pick up the black break classic in 2020 obvious answer? No, this thing is not worth in a 2020 based off my usage, if you're able to download apps on it and everything, maybe it's a different story, but for me personally, like I, said in the beginning of this video, this is based off my personal experience and based off that I can't really say this thing is really worth it in 2020 based off my performance again. However, if you're somebody who is okay with using an outdated phone- and you need to keep with that badly and all this other stuff, I would recommend you picking up either a blackberry, Drive or blackberry key one, and those phones are many miles ahead of this phone.
There's still blackberry phone, so you know you can still get them the BlackBerry premise, especially that thing is almost on stock Android, which blows this thing out of the water, so that pretty much covers it there.
