Apple Watch Upgrade! - Series 3 to Series 6 | Unboxing + Review

Apple Watch Series 6 has arrived Apple Watch Series, 6 is finally here, and I was so happy to receive mine after pre-ordering I decided to go with the 44 millimeter series 6 in graphite, stainless steel and as the title of the video suggests, this will be my first upgrade since the Apple Watch Series 3 from 3 years ago. There's that satisfying classic removal. So, let's flip this over and pop it open. I will point out this year that the packaging has gotten much slimmer due to the absence of a charging adapter with the watch and band packaged separately for my band choice, I went with the new solo loop in deep navy to try out this new stretch, silicone band, but we'll open that up in a second, let's, first, look at the Apple Watch itself, Apple Watch Series 6 is available in the familiar set of aluminum, stainless steel and titanium cases, but with some new finishes, including red and blue anodized aluminum, as well as a new gold finish that is more yellow than its bronze predecessor. Now opening the box, we have our quick start guide and underneath that is the magnetic charging cable, which is still USB-C rather than USB-C. Noticeably absent, however, is the charging brick to accompany it.

Another new option on the accessory side is the choice of two new seamless band designs, which include the solo loop, sport band and the braided solo loop, which is made of woven silicone threads with recycled polyester yarn, both designed to stretch over the hand, rather than rely on an enclosure mechanism. Like all previous band designs for the Apple Watch, I chose the solo loop in deep navy, so, let's open it up and check it out now these are available in a range of sizes that are predetermined based on Apple's online sizing guide, so be sure to keep in mind how you like your band to fit, as you may want to get a smaller size. If you don't want any movement on your wrist, as you can see, it is a single piece that actually has quite a bit of stretch to it and a nice soft feel that is even less plastic-like than the traditional sport band. With the inset mechanism installed on both ends- and it looks like the size I chose will work quite nicely, so let's go ahead and actually install it on the watch to try it on. I love this combination, together with the graphite steel, which is more of a carbon gray than the space black it replaces, and the band has a lot of movement in it.

With this new material, it slips onto my wrist quite easily and has a secure enough fit that isn't too tight. Hopefully it stands up to being stretched on and off every day. I personally prefer the stainless steel over the aluminum for its durability, both in terms of the case material and also the front glass, as it is made of sapphire crystal for increased scratch resistance. Although the body can be more prone to scratches, most can be polished out, but so far I'm very pleased with the look feel and fit alright. So it's all set up now and the band feels great.

I think this is going to work very well as my daily band choice going forward. Looking at it side by side with the standard sport band, it is obviously a softer, less stiff material. It still has the inner groove for added comfort, but doesn't extend the full length of the band on the new one and the standard sport band is, of course, much more rigid, which some people might like, because it can feel more secure, whereas the solo loop is about the same thickness, but feels thinner because of the amount of movement it allows. Now, comparing the series 3 in series 6 side by side is really night and day, which may not really be any different from the comparison with a series 4 or 5. But for me, it is certainly a noticeable upgrade.

The larger flatter display is incredible and really fits the rectangular design better. The always-on functionality is also a welcome feature that makes quick glances at complications or the time all more convenient, although it can hinder battery life to some degree over time. The digital crown has only a subtle red ring to denote cellular compatibility and the side button is flush with the main casing, in sharp contrast to the bright red dot on the series 3 and slightly raised side button. The difference in thickness, however, is not very noticeable, but having them on side by side, you can tell the series 6 is clearly the more refined model over three generations, despite the major upgrades here, Apple has provided quite the interesting choice this year, while the series 6 is, of course, at the high end, but filling this gap is the new Apple Watch, SE, which leans closer to the 6, by retaining many great features from last year's series 5, while starting over 100 less than the series 6 likely making it the go-to option for many, the main omissions from the SE model include the ECG functionality and new blood oxygen sensor, which adds a new set of backside LEDs to detect blood oxygen levels based on the saturation and resulting color of your blood. To initiate this, you simply open the app on your watch and tap start making.

Sure your wrist is steady and watch is secure in place. Apple makes it known that this is for wellness and does not rate this as a medical device for confirmation of blood. Auction content, since slight movement or shift in reading angle can lead to inaccurate data. Nonetheless, it can be an informative metric to include in your overall health data assessment. If you do decide to take a peek at the process, you will be able to see the new LED sequence that occurs during measurement, which is different from the green LEDs that are used during the measuring of heart rate.

The last thing I will touch on are the new customization options and watch faces available in watch OS 7 that make the experience all the more personal when setting up your watch as well as the new sleep tracking feature which I have tested out, but, in my opinion, could use some improvement to make it a must-have feature going forward. All in all, this is much welcome upgrade for me coming from the series 3. , but you may want to consider which features you really care about. If you already have a series 5 or even a series 4. For some, the upgraded health features may be plenty to justify the upgrade.

If you are health conscious enough or if you have a series 4, you maybe are interested in the always on display, which may be too enticing to pass on for the second year in a row and don't forget about the Apple Watch, SE, which may be the more likely option if you're coming from a series 3 or if you're new, to Apple Watch, all together, no matter what you're sure to find a host of options for you to customize, your casing features and watch band across the Apple Watch lineup.
