Apple Watch Series 6 vs SE - Should You Upgrade? By ZONEofTECH

Welcome to another live unboxing and first impressions. So in front of me, I have two apple boxes for two brands: new apple watches, yeah they're, both Apple Watch Series, sixes, there's also an Apple Watch ac, that's coming in a few hours um, so we will be showing that later on in the video. But for this part I'll be unboxing and giving you guys my actual first impressions with both of these series. Six one of them is the one in blue that comes with the blue, braided sole loop and then the other one is the stainless steel graphite, which would essentially be a replacement for my series 5. But in the end I don't think I'll be upgrading. So, let's start with box. Let's start with this one right: let's start with this one and see which one of the two it actually is. Okay, so, as per usual apple boxes, have a seal which you can break just like that, there you go, let's see which one of the two apple watches.

Is this one really um, I'm not sure, let's see, okay, so on the front we have just it's just a white box, I'm hoping that you guys can see this on this white desk, uh, so Apple Watch on the front and then on the back. We get okay. So this is the blue aluminum case. Okay, so I was actually hoping that I would pick this one first uh right, and we have a plastic pull tab right here. There you go, and now I can just lift the top.

No, actually. No. This is this: is that butterfly style uh box, so it just opens up like that. There you go and inside we get both the Apple Watch, and we also get a band which is now packaged separately. Apple started doing this, I believe, with a series 5 last year, mostly because they have so many configurations, and it was basically a nightmare having to package the band inside each different app watch configuration okay, so, let's start off with the watch itself, and then I'm going to take a closer look at the band.

So, as you can see, we have two more seals right here, one and two, and let me just open up this. This is pretty cool, so we actually get the Apple Watch Series six. Ah, this is nice. So this is the one that comes in blue, and it seems like this how they call this. The sleeve is actually made out of uh cardboard or paper.

Unlike the more premium. One, that's made out of fabric for the stainless steel apple watches. There you go. This is the blue Apple Watch, which we'll be taking a closer look in the second half of this video, with my actual first impressions, where we'll be taking some really nice shots, and then what else do we get here? So we get the booklet, the instruction manual uh. We don't have any apple stickers by the way for the apple watches, mostly because they're considered accessories.

Even though now you can kinda use an Apple Watch without an iPhone, even though you still need one to configure it, and we just get the charging cable, which is, I don't think, it's USB type-c. Let me just quickly check. No, it's still USB type a to this proprietary magnetic charger. Okay, and now we have the actual band again. This is the braided cell loop.

Now this is in size five by the way, so I've actually measured my wrist using this tool, this tool that apple um has on their website, so you can print this off and my size is actually six. So this is a bit smaller, but then I've also ordered another band for my actual Apple Watch, which is size six. So I'm quite curious to see how these two would differ. I've actually seen some reports that you should get a size, that's at least one smaller than the one you measured with that tool. Let's see, let's take a look at this band interesting.

Oh, this is interesting. Wow, wow, okay. I really like this wow okay, so this feels like fabric it feels it doesn't feel like plastic. It honestly feels it feels very, very premium wow. Okay, I really like this, and then we should have.

Oh actually, I was looking for the second half, and then I realized there is no second half. This is literally it. This is just one piece right, so I'm going to slide it into the Apple Watch itself and I really want to quickly see how well will this fit. This feels so tiny again, it's a size 5. It feels extremely tiny.

So let me just remove my actual Apple Watch, which is the series five in black stainless steel, and let's see how does this actually fit? Okay, that's actually pretty good. Okay, I have to say that's not too bad. This is not too bad guys. So yeah, I would definitely go for it for a size five. So it's not too loose.

It's not too tight. It's like perfect, so I think the series six sorry the size, six that I ordered. I think that would be a bit too large, but this is nice yeah really like the feel of it. It's very light. It feels like fabric.

I think this might just be my favorite Apple Watch band. Okay, so that was the Apple Watch Series six in blue. Now, let's take a closer look at this one, which should be the gray, graphite, stainless steel. Also quick, first impressions here now that I have both apple watches, my current one and the blue one on my wrist. I have to say this one feels so, so light compared to this one.

This is again aluminum or aluminum. This is stainless steel, okay, so pretty much the same story here we have seal. Then we get the Apple Watch which the box looks pretty much identical. Maybe it's a bit thicker. Maybe I don't think it actually is, but it's basically the same story.

So we have the plastic wrap, and we have that butterfly thingy on the back and there we go. We now get the stainless steel band and the Apple Watch Series six in uh graphite and oh no interesting. You know how I said that um this was made out of paper on the aluminum one. Well, it's still made out of paper on this one, so they removed the really nice fabric pouch. Unfortunately, and I've also removed that charger.

So I don't know if you've noticed there was no charger inside the box of the previous Apple Watch. Okay, this is interesting. So this is how it looks like I don't know if you guys can tell again we'll be covering this a bit more in depth throughout the video. So this is the graphite now compared to my stainless steel. They look very, very similar um.

This is a bit shinier, the uh, the graphite one. It's also a bit of lighter, so it's not as dark. I know if you guys can tell uh they're they're very, very similar, so I would be happy with either of them. I think I still prefer the space black just because the display actually merges with the body a bit better. So I do like that- and I don't know if you can tell, but the back is also quite a bit different now, mostly because we now have an oxygen level meter on the Apple Watch Series, six right, just a quick look at this band.

So this is the stainless steel minerals loop, which again matches perfectly with the graphite Apple Watch. There you go and yeah it's pretty much identical to the previous Balinese loop. It's just lighter, and it has a different shade. So I don't think you know it's nice, but I don't think this is uh. This is a good reason to actually upgrade pretty nice, not bad right.

So what I'm going to do now is I have a bunch of apple watches, as you can probably tell so. I'm going to use these for just a tiny bit. I'm going to try the oxygen level meter and so on, and I'll be back in just a few minutes, with my actual in-depth, so to say: first impressions, okay, so we're in September now, which means that schools and universities are about to reopen which makes it the perfect transition to our sponsor gigabyte with their brand-new aero 17kb laptop, which is an insane deal for students and anyone really who's. It is perfect for 3d, rendering and other power intensive applications, often used by creative professionals. The keyboard feels great to type on, and each key is also individually backlit, giving us a full RGB keyboard with multiple effects that you can choose from. We also have a great selection of ports such as a thunderbolt 3 ports, a mini display, port, a full-size, HDMI port, an Ethernet port, a SD card reader as well as three USB 3.2 gen1 type, a port not only that, but the r17 is also a very portable laptop, with a thickness of just two centimeters and a weight of just 2.5 kilograms, which is surprisingly light for a 17-inch laptop. Okay, back apologies for the slight delay. I just wanted to take my time now in terms of my first impressions. Apple now has two different models of the Apple Watch: the Apple Watch 36 and also the Apple Watch SC. This being the two models that they've released this year now, the SC is essentially an Apple Watch series 4 from 2018, just without the ECG meter, it does have double the storage, 32 gigabytes as opposed to 16 gigabytes, as well as an active altimeter which can actually measure your altitude in real time when you're climbing, so that might be useful for you.

It also has the apple s5 processor um, as opposed to the s4 inside the series 4, but es5 fun fact is actually identical in terms of performance to the s4. So you wouldn't really be seeing any performance differences here. We actually got this one in 40 millimeters and I have to say I do like a lot how tiny this thing is now DSC starts from 279 or 269 pounds in the UK, and this is really the Apple Watch that I would recommend to most people looking to buy an Apple Watch. I mean sure it doesn't happen, always on display, like the series 5 and the series 6 do, and it doesn't have an ECG meter, like the series 456 or an oxygen level meter that the series 6 introduced, but aside from that, this is actually a very good watch for anyone. Looking for a budget Apple Watch now, the contents of the box are actually quite similar too to the other boxes that you've seen at the beginning of this video, the only major difference being that uh, the sleeve that the watch SC comes in is actually made out of some sort of plastic rather than paper, the one that we get with the series 6.

However, both of these are a massive downgrade over the fabric sleeve that the series 5 and the series 4 came with. Okay. Moving on to the Apple Watch Series 6 this one. I do actually like this blue a lot, but here's the thing. When you have a watch like any watch, it is quite likely that you have two or more bands to go with it.

You know, bands that you would actually change depending on what you would be wearing. The only problem here is that you have a blue watch, which, obviously you cannot change without buying a new watch completely. So I feel like the main target audience for these colored apple watches, the new blue and the new red would be mainly children and young teenagers, but at the same time that's the exact audience that would likely buy the Apple Watch SC instead, which fun fact the SC doesn't actually come in these colors, like the series 6 does, so I'm a bit confused as to who these colors are actually for, like. Let me know in the comments, if you guys have a better idea and if you guys would actually buy a colored Apple Watch, even though this would severely restrict your band and your clothing selection. Now my personal choice here is the Apple Watch stainless steel edition.

So I really like the weight of this and the way it looks and feels like it kind of makes you feel that you're actually wearing a high-end watch or then this lightweight toy. You know, smartwatch that you kind of get with the aluminum model, at least to me that that's how it feels the aluminum one feels quite, quite cheap and just like a toy doesn't feel as hefty as the stainless steel bottle and, as I mentioned before, the back has actually changed between these watches. So the sensor arrangement on the series six is quite a bit different from the series, five and even from the SC. So this is how the back of the series zero one two and three looked like. So we had these four sensors two LED lights and then two readers that in combination with each other, would actually measure your heart rate.

Then the applied series 4 and the series 5 completely change that by adding the ECG meter, and they've also improved the heart rate, monitor apple's calling this the second gen heart rate, monitor, which is faster and more accurate, and then with a series 6. The layout has changed once again, and we also get an oxygen level meter, which now includes 4, led clusters and 4 photodiodes, and I don't know if it's just me, but a series 6 actually appears to have a considerably thicker sensor area when compared to the series 5 and the series 4, which will indeed make it feel thicker and just a bit chunkier on your wrist. Now, if we take a look at the SC, we can probably tell that the sensor is quite a bit similar to the series four one, but without those two big silver surfaces which are likely the ones needed for that ECG meter, which of course the SC doesn't have okay. Now, when it comes to that brand-new graphite, stainless steel Apple Watch, I think it looks pretty nice, but I've got to be honest. I actually do prefer my space black stainless steel instead, mostly because on the space black one, the display blends in perfectly with the body of the watch, so it feels and looks like one single piece on the graphite model.

The case is lighter than the bezel of the screen in terms of the color and the shade, so it just doesn't look as good in my opinion. So what about that braided loop? Well, I'm actually a big fan of how this thing looks, and I'm even yeah, I'm definitely an even bigger fan in terms of how it feels like this thing, actually feels like real fabric, even though this is just technically a synthetic fabric. But, like I said at the beginning of this video size, 6, which I measured using apple's tool ended up being way too big for me, so I would suggest ordering one size smaller than the one that you measured using apple's tool right so now onto the big features. You know that oxygen level meter, so the way it works is that you have this app on your Apple Watch, but it doesn't actually um work out of the box as you need to configure this first on your iPhone now. I think I've spent about 40 minutes to an hour trying to get this to work, because I was using an iPhone which was on iOS, 14, beta 1 and didn't work, and then I had to upgrade to the latest beta version, which was 14.2 that still didn't work now um. In the end, I got it working, but I actually had to switch to an iPhone that was not on any beta version of iOS, so that seems to work.

For some reason. Apple has disabled the oxygen jungle meter on the iPhones that are not running on iOS 14. It's really strange because it's running on the Apple Watch, but the iPhone is the one that controls it. It takes about 15 seconds for the Apple Watch to measure the oxygen level in your blood. Anything above 95 is considered good, but apparently the Apple Watch isn't certified as actual medical equipment.

So yeah it's not super accurate, so you should be taking all of this with a grain of salt. So, okay in the end, is the Apple Watch Series 6 and SC worth it well. The thing is: if you already have a series 5, then no, if you have a series 4, then the 6 can only be worth it as you do get an always always-on display, as well as that oxygen level meter. If you have a series, 3 or older, then I would say definitely as you get the new design with that larger display as well. Now in terms of the SC, I would say: if you have a series, 3 or older, then yes, it is a good option, but just take a look and see if you can maybe find a series 4 for less than the series 4 does have an ECG meter and is quite a bit better overall than ESC.

Because of that, but yeah definitely leave a comment down below letting me know. What do you guys think of the Apple Watch Series 5 and if you're upgrading to one which model are you actually upgrading from? Personally, I will be staying at the series 5. I did get the brand-new solo braid blue, so I will be keeping that very likely, not sure if I will be keeping the blue on or uh if I'll get the black one instead. So I haven't decided on that. I don't know how to respond to that.
