Hey guys what is going on, my name is Jen, and I'm here to help you understand your everyday tech. One video at a time and today we're taking a look at the Apple Watch Series. Six. We can still go back there to a place with no cares. We can turn this ship around. Furthermore, we can turn this ship around.
All the way back home, of course, included in the box is the Apple Watch itself. The Apple Watch magnetic charger with no power brick this time, and if you notice that there was no crispy plastic in this unboxing, it's because I used Apple Watch studio to get a custom band. This is the charcoal sport loop. So first things. First, let's talk about the display on this device.
It comes in two sizes, a 40 and 44 millimeter. It's the same overall design as a past couple apple watches, except with some new colors, like this blue aluminum and the product red. Of course, just like last year's Apple Watch, the series 6 continues that always on display that was first introduced in the series 5. This is when, if you're not looking directly at the watch, it no longer just powers down the display, it will still show information like the time or the widgets that you have set up without you needing to directly raise your wrist to your face, to see it, and it automatically knows when you have taken off your watch to set it down or put it on the charger to power off the display completely so like. If you're trying to sleep it doesn't light up and keep you awake, which is really nice.
The new processor improvements have allowed the always on display to be brighter than before apple claims. It will be at least 2.5 times brighter than the series 5 always on display when you're not looking straight at it, keep in mind that apple has removed, 3d touch from the Apple Watch Series 6. So now the old gestures to like custom watch faces or clear. Your notification center is just kind of all over the place. Some things are buttons.
Some things are long holds, and even if you updated your older Apple Watch to watch OS 7, you can no longer access force touch regardless of whether your watch actually has it built in so yeah. That kind of sucks speed is not an issue when it comes to the series.6. apple claims that the new s6 processor is 20 faster than the series 5 processor, which, by the way, is actually the same as the series 4 processor, but anyway in my testing, apps are noticeably more responsive than my Apple Watch Series 4. Everything from doing complications using Siri tracking workouts. Everything just feels that much faster.
I would not say it's a drastic difference, because the series 4 was not slow by any means, but it's definitely noticeable. I also noticed that when you're doing a lot like tracking workouts, the series 6 gets noticeably less warm than the series 4, which is due to the more efficient processor. So I think that's a nice addition. In case you haven't heard already the newest feature with the Apple Watch Series.6 is the blood oxygen sensor. You can actually see the new sensors on the back of the Apple Watch, whereas before you only had the green lights that monitored heart rate now you also have red and infrared lights that monitor blood oxygen and when I say blood oxygen, I mean the concentration of oxygen in your blood.
But honestly, I would take this feature with a grain of salt, because this is still not a professional medical device. So if you need to diagnose an issue, please go to a doctor: do not rely on the Apple Watch and if it ever says you got an unsuccessful measurement. That just means you need to tighten your watch band and keep your wrist level while you're performing the test, because that can affect the accuracy of the test. Apple has also improved the heart rate sensor in the Apple Watch Series 6 as well. This is the second generation optical heart rate sensor.
So even your standard heart rate measurements throughout the day will be much more accurate and, of course it still has the ECG first introduced in the series, 4, and I'm sure, you've seen news stories out there of apple watches, saving people's lives or detecting irregular heart rhythms. So if you're somebody who needs this type of monitoring on your wrist, then I would highly recommend this Apple Watch. The Apple Watch now natively supports sleep tracking, so you don't have to download another app to do this personally. This is not something I would ever use because I don't like to share my bed with technology. There's also a new feature called the handwashing timer.
So if you turn this on inside your settings or in the watch app, it will now automatically detect when you're washing your hands and remind you to wash them for at least 20 seconds. It will show up with a timer, and if you stop washing your hands, it will remind you to keep going. Don't worry, this isn't going to trigger if you're just rubbing your hands together or anything else by the way, if the video has been helpful so far, um be sure to leave a like. That would be tremendously helpful and if you didn't know, YouTube doesn't actually notify you of new videos. If you just hit the subscribe button, you have to hit the bell icon as well, which is, I don't know, kind of weird, but so be sure you hit that subscribe and the bell to be notified of new uploads.
Now, for the most part, these sensors don't give you any new workout tracking options, they're really just there to increase accuracy, in other words, you're, going to get the same type of workout options on the series 5 and series 4, but not the series 3 and older because they had older sensors. So if you need workout tracking for ellipticals swimming hiking, yoga dancing, high intensity interval training. All of that good stuff. The Apple Watch still does an excellent job of keeping track of that for you, as well as reminding you to be more active throughout the day and, of course, just like previous apple watches, you get the activity rings that fill up as you do more activity throughout the day, and you can challenge your friends to see their progress and see how you are horribly losing fun fact. If you're like me, and you like, listening to music straight off your Apple Watch without using your phone or even having it nearby, you can now do that with Spotify, so you're not limited to just using Apple Music.
My all-time favorite thing to do on an Apple Watch is to get notifications. I just find it super convenient to raise your wrist and see who in the world, is texting you and decide if they are worthy of a response now you can even send me moi stickers right from your wrist as well, which is great, I guess, but something I probably would never use so, regardless of how great all of these features are. What about the battery life? Because, without that you ain't got nothing now. In my experience I have done workout tracking. I have just used the Apple Watch as an Apple Watch, just getting notifications and looking at the time the battery life is about the same as my series 4.
Sometimes it can be a little worse if I'm using one of the new features like the blood oxygen monitor or if I have been messing with the always on display quite a bit of standby time is not any better. So if you take off your watch and leave it on a nightstand, you can expect and lose about 20 overnight. If you didn't know, watch OS 7 actually gives you the battery health option just like on the iPhone. So if your maximum capacity on your old watch is below like 80, I would say you should upgrade your watch just so you can get that full capacity, because once you dip below that point, that's when your battery life starts getting awful. You can hardly make it through the second day.
I will say that using the always-on display does seem to drain my battery quite a bit, especially if I'm in a bright environment, I'm assuming because it's trying to pump that 2.5 times brightness that we talked about earlier. You can go into the settings and turn this off. But honestly, this is like the only major feature you can see on the series 6. So I don't know its kind of weird. So is this watch worth buying nah? Not this time.
Personally, I don't really use the ECG feature on the Apple Watch. I've had it on my series 4 for two years now, and I've only used it maybe twice, and that was just to play around with it. In fact, I don't even think apple wants me to use it because they say you're supposed to be like 22 or older, and I am not. I also suspect that I will not use the blood oxygen sensor simply because I really don't need something like that and if you're somebody who doesn't need the ECG or the blood oxygen monitor, I really don't see a reason to get this Apple Watch other than buying it specifically for the new colors. So if you have an Apple Watch, series 5 do not upgrade.
It is not worth it unless you specifically need the blood oxygen sensor. Even if you have an Apple Watch Series 4, it's really not that big of an upgrade, but if you're coming from a series, 3 or older, then yeah, I would say this would be a significant upgrade, but you can also get 90 of these features on the Apple Watch SE. So unless you really need the always on display and the blood oxygen monitor and the ECG I would not buy this Apple Watch instead go for the Apple Watch.
