I've owned all the apple watches over the last five years, but I think the Apple Watch SE is the most compelling one. Yet, after three weeks of extensive testing, I've determined that the new Apple Watch SE is the better bet because of its superior screen. It's faster. It has more color options, and you have the option to add a cellular service if you want it, but the series 3 is still great for those that want all the same basic functionality for less. If you've never owned an Apple Watch, you should go watch the first video that I made in this series, which will help you get up to speed on all the Apple Watch basics. But if you want to learn how I reach my conclusion, stay right here as I compare the screen, the internal hardware, the unique features and then go over the design, and I'll wrap this up with making a recommendation on which one would be best for you, the Apple Watch SE and the series 3 have the same size case, but the SC has 30 percent more screen because they reduce the bezel size.
This makes the fonts larger and easier to read, especially when you're, exercising or doing something where you can't have full focus on your Apple Watch and people with poor vision are going to find this hugely helpful. The larger screen also allows for more watch faces, for example, the info graph faces are some of my favorite faces, but they're not available on the series 3, because there's not enough room if you're coming from one of the older apple watches, and you just want a better experience. The SC screen is a huge improvement, but back 3 years ago, when I was wearing my series 3 every day, I never had an issue with the screen size. The screen is perfect if you've never used an Apple Watch, but once you experience one of the newer screens on the newer apple watches, you'll never want to go back because it feels like there's a ton of wasted. Space apple lists, the same 18-hour battery life for both apple watches.
With the Apple Watch Series 3, I have reached 27 hours of runtime while running watch OS 7, and I averaged 34 hours of runtime with the Apple Watch. Sc, there's no perfect way to do battery life tests because there are so many variables, but I tried to tease out the most amount that I could all my sessions included two hours long, workouts, no LTE phone notifications and 8 hours of sleep tracking, but the bottom line is that the SES battery is clearly going to last longer, but the series 3 should have plenty of juice to get you through a whole day. Series 3 has apple's s3 processing chip, the Apple Watch Series 3, was the first Apple Watch that I owned. That worked as intended without any serious lag. Each new Apple Watch iteration is getting faster, but it appears that the software is playing a larger role in this than the processing chip.
While the series 3 isn't as fast as the SE, it's not a dealbreaker because it can still handle anything you throw at it. The only real difference is that I've noticed is that sometimes there are third party apps that are a little slower to open, and sometimes the Apple Watch will freeze just for a couple seconds, but it doesn't happen that frequently the Apple Watch SE has apple's s5 processing chip, which apple claims is up to two times faster than the s3 processor. The Apple Music app is the only app made by apple that opens noticeably faster Siri understands and performs actions slightly faster, but I'm not convinced that this is due to the chip it might just be due to better mics. I saw the biggest difference when trying to perform multiple tasks, for example during a workout when you swipe right to change the song. The process is smooth on the SC, while it's not always smooth on the series 3, because it sometimes lags.
The series.3 includes just 8 gigabytes of storage, it's enough room for some playlists, some audiobooks and some podcasts, but you probably can't fit your entire library on it and because some software updates require more than a gig of storage. Sometimes I found myself deleting apps and music just to get the new update. Eight gigabytes might sound like enough, but there's actually only 6.2 available. So it's not ideal. The Apple Watch SE has 32 gigabytes standard, so this should give you a lot more room to work with this will let you download thousands of songs and never have to worry about the transfer at nighttime or using your cellular data.
There are four other hardware improvements that the Apple Watch SE has compared to the series 3. The SC's digital crown has haptic feedback as you scroll, the screen with the digital crown, you'll feel vibrations. As you toggle through the options, it doesn't sound like a huge feature, but once you go from an Apple Watch with haptic feedback and then go back to series 3 without it, the series 3 feels really dated the Apple Watch. Sc has a second generation optical heart rate sensor, but in my experience it doesn't prove to be more accurate or quicker. At reading your heart rate, with both watches on my wrist, they almost always had the same exact.
Reading. The difference between the old and the new generations might just be battery efficiency. The Apple Watch SE has apple's w3 wireless chip compared to the series 3's w2 chip. This means that the sew ill have Bluetooth 5.0, but I didn't see a huge difference in real life. My Bluetooth headphones connected to my Apple Watch with the same speed, and they had the same stability as when I tried to pair with the Apple Watch Series 3, the w2 chip, the speaker on the SC is noticeably louder and clearer compared to the series 3.
, it's 4 15 p. m. It's 4:15 p. m. On the series 3, the sound sometimes sounds muffled, but this isn't a huge deal because I'm not sure how often you're going to have the sound enabled the series 3 runs the same watchOS 7 software as the SC.
It includes a heart rate, monitor GPS, workout and sleep tracking phone notifications and Apple Pay. The series 3 is loaded with features, but there isn't anything unique. That's not also found on the SE. The series 3 was released in 2017, and it has seen three major software updates. Apple is known for keeping their products relevant for a long time, but the series 3 might be on its last update when apple adds to series 3 to the obsolete list.
It'll continue to work just fine, but you will no longer get any new updates for it. So that means you could potentially miss out on a bunch of new features. There are 6 notable features on the Apple Watch, set hat you won't find on series 3. You can buy an Apple Watch, SE with cellular. This will cost an extra 50 dollars for the device itself and then 15 a month every month that you want the service, your Apple Watch and your iPhone will share the same exact number.
So whenever you leave your phone at home and just take your watch with you, all phone calls and texts are directed straight to the watch. This lets you leave home or exercise without completely going off the grid. It's great for dinner, dates or other times when you just want to stay at the moment, and I went into detail of why I love cellular so much in the first video in this series. The Apple Watch SE detects when you fall then sounds an alarm and displays a message on your watch. If you don't move for a minute after you've, fallen, it'll automatically call 9-1-1, the SC has a compass built into it that works without cellular or Wi-Fi.
It has an always-on altimeter that shows you, real-time elevation data while wearing the SC and the series 3. At the same time, during a hike, you can actually see this play out in real life. The SES elevation number updates instantly as you step, while the series 3 updates slowly. The SC can monitor the noise around you and warn you when the decibel level has reached a level that would damage your hearing, because the Essie was just released, and it has this 64-bit s5 chip, it's going to be updated for a long time. The series 3 comes in silver and space gray aluminum, and you get to choose between the white or the black sport band.
The good news is that all of apple's watch bands will fit the series 3, but the bad news is that it'll be an additional 50 to get a band that isn't black or white. The SC comes in the same silver and space gray aluminum as the series 3, but there's also a gold aluminum color you get to choose between 29 different band options in the sport loop, sport band, solar loop or the braided solar loop styles. The SE also has a thinner case, but this isn't a deal. Breaker either get the Apple Watch. Se, if you want a larger display, more color options, or you just want the option to add a cellular plan to your watch.
The improved speed, extra storage, better speaker, haptic feedback and always on altimeter are all minor improvements that combine to make the series 3 feel dated. If the new Apple Watch models didn't exist, I would still be a daily wearer of the Apple Watch Series.3. get the Apple Watch Series 3. If you're buying your first ever Apple Watch, and you're fine with the black or the white band, the series 3 has most of the same features as the SC. Everything is just a little less smooth.
As of now the Apple Watch Series 3 gets all the same updates as the SE, but the SC will definitely outlast the series 3. Alright, that's all I got for you. Let me know what you thought of this video give me a thumbs up if you liked it and if you have any Apple Watch questions, I'm definitely your guy. I've had on my wrist for almost 2 000 straight days, and I know almost everything you can about it and if you're wondering where the brand-new Apple Watch Series 6 fits into this equation, I have a brand new video coming out next week, comparing the series 6 to the SE. So thanks for watching and I'm out.
